“I can't recommend James enough! This was our first time travelling without our dog, and James was very responsive to all of our requests. He sent us daily pictures of her which really helped us since this was the first time we were away from her since adopting. Our dog came home sleepy and happy and it was obvious to us that she was well cared for and enjoyed her time. We're already planning our next trip so that we can book James again!”

“Hope is amazing! She was very communicative and provided us with the best pictures and updates of Biscuit. We appreciate her time and flexibility with our schedules and look forward to seeing her and Loretta again soon!”

“Laura is awesome. She is flexible and is very accommodating to your schedule for pick up/drop off times. She sent lots of pictures of our pups playing throughout the day. I’m rebooking every time with her!!”

“Jocelyn was very responsive, understanding and patient. My pup is nervous and quirky and she made me feel comfortable leaving him at an unfamiliar place for several days!”

“Outstanding person and dog caretaker. Our pup probably had more fun with Amy than at home, and we had zero concerns leaving him for ten days. He came home happy and healthy.”

“Brianne was great! Worked very well with my drop off and pickup times. The dogs had a big yard the even my one escape artist couldn’t find a hole in. I’ll definitely be using her for any future trips!”
“We were nervous leaving our 6-month-old puppy for the first time, but Cory made it a wonderful experience for us and our pup. Cory was easy to communicate with; he provided lots of photos and updates when we were gone and Riley seemed very happy and content when we went to pick her up. We would definitely like to have Cory watch Riley again.”

“I would definitely recommend this boarder to anyone who wants the Best Care for their Furry Family Member! He is respectful, shared photos, and his communication is right on point!”

“Amanda was great! She was communicative and sent us adorable photos of our boy throughout his stay. Our boy was treated like family and became best friends with her dog. I truly appreciate how much love he received while we were away!”

“I think one of the best signs of a great sitter is a tired pup!! Addie had the best time with Michelle. From the very beginning, they were kind, caring, and treated our pet like their own. I received regular updates and pictures, which gave us such peace of mind while we were away. It was obvious that our fur baby was happy, comfortable, and well cared for. I highly recommend Michelle to anyone looking for someone they can truly trust with their pets!”

“Jenny sent me updates and pictures of my dog while I was gone. She took my dog with her throughout parts of the day around the stables. Drop off and pick up went smoothly. She was great!”
“Emil was very flexible and accommodating over the holidays and kept Chewie happy and active. Sent pics every now and then. Would totally recommend and hope he will be available for Chewie in the future! 😊☺️”

“Great stay for George my 4 month old puppy. First it was difficult finding someone who would take a puppy. Next, he was not completely house trained. But, no fear for Michael and his wife as these appeared as seasoned veterans in the dog caring industry. He had a great stay and his first long visit away from home was totally successful.”

“We cannot express enough how thankful we are to Tyler for watching our fur baby the weekend of our wedding in Charlottesville! He was super attentive and stayed in communication with us throughout the weekend, constantly providing us with updates and pictures. During a weekend with a lot of moving parts, we knew our dog was safe, and loving life with Tyler. Cannot recommend enough and will definitely rebook the next time we’re in Charlottesville ☺️❤️”

About: I've been taking care of animals of all kinds since I was 12! I started volunteering early with a local humane society and have been active in rescues ever since. I have also fostered dogs from two months-10 years old, including medical fosters, so I'm comfortable giving pets medicine if need be. I currently work at UVA in their communications office, where I have a lot of flexibility, especially on Thursdays and Fridays when I work remotely. I'm available most weekends and many holidays! I live in a shared house with a unfenced backyard and a couple of roommates, both of whom love dogs! There's a trail near me that I enjoy walking dogs on if they are OK with other people/dogs. Otherwise, I take dogs on walks once or twice daily.
“Danielle watched our mini-dachshund for a week at her home and we could not have asked for a better experience. Our pup can be a bit high maintenance, but she took it all in stride and gave her excellent care the entire time. Her communication was fantastic too, with regular updates that put us at ease while we were away. We came home to a happy, well cared for dog. Highly recommend and would absolutely book her again”
“This is the 3rd time we’ve used Heather and Nigel’s dog boarding services. We had a family emergency this time so had to book on a pretty short notice. We were very relieved when they were able to take her, since our dog always has a fantastic time with them. We would fully recommend them!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Charlottesville
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience four our dog, Sadie. From the moment we met Jesse and Emily, we knew Sadie was in good hands. By the way she walked right into their home, it was obvious she would fit into the family. While away, we received regular updates on Sadie and several photos of her outside on walks, snuggling on the couch, playing with their girls, and having fun discovering new toys. It was obvious how happy and engaged Sadie was, which was very reassuring. Leaving your dog with someone for several days and nights requires a great deal of trust, we can honestly say that we would recommend Jesse & Emily to anyone, and we are looking forward to our next get-away knowing Sadie will be cared for enjoyed from the whole family!!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
