“Jesse & Emily treated my Angel like she’s a family. Angel was greatly taken care of, even made friends with Hazel and Nola (kids). We received daily updates and pictures. We’re forever grateful for this family.”

“Danielle and her crew were great! She was very responsive to my messages and was able to watch my doggo on very short notice. I felt completely at ease knowing my dog was in her care. If you're ever in Harrisonburg, choose her!”

“Brandy always takes good care of our doggie and sends lots of pictures while we're away. He's always happy when we get to her house so she's doing something right! 😁 She is quick to respond to questions and very flexible with drop off and pick up. Great sitter!”

“Jo is a wonderful dog sitter! She cared for our shy rescue Cavalier Maggie who has some PTSD tendencies due to being raised in a puppymill overbreeding environment. Within minutes of arriving, Maggie was going to Jo and getting petted. Jo is attentive and caring. Nice home and fenced yard area. Maggie was well cared for by Jo and Kayla. Received daily pics and updates too. Definitely will hire Jo again and highly recommend her!”

“Kara and her family were amazing with my husky! They had him for 5 days while we were out of town and I have nothing but great things to say about them. My boy was well taken care of, he was happy and communication was consistent (something I highly appreciated) They took him on walks, played with him and gave him lots of love. We totally recommend her!”

About: First of all, my name is Toni. Rover will only accept legally changed names, and I haven’t gotten there yet. But I’m Toni M. and I started getting involved with pet care because of my mental illness and autism. The stress of life was lowering my ability to function and every job I tried seemed to make it all worse. Enter: Dogs. I decided if I was going to make it I needed to be doing something that gave instead of took from me. Animals have helped bring me back to life in the dark. I’ve worked with puppies and older dogs. I’ve spent significant time with dogs with anxiety issues as well. I tend to connect with dogs who need a little extra love the most anyway. I do have a job but I’m available for boarding if pet is crate trained. When a pet stays with me we have a routine. Coffee (for me), breakfast, walk. And in the evenings we eat, play, have downtime. I guarantee an hour of exercise a day for your pet as well. My yard is fenced so no chance of escape. I like to play outside with the animals twice a day. Water bowel is always filled and animals are always welcome on my furniture. They’re free to make themselves at home.
“Our dog Jasper had a great stay with Brianne! She was so sweet to him and it seems like he went on lots of hikes and walks- he came home very happy & tired :-) She was very easy to work with, flexible, responsive and sent a few nice pics of their adventures each day. Thanks Brianne! We will be back :-)”

“Moxie had a great time staying over with Caroline. I loved getting photos and updates. Caroline is very experienced with dogs who have special needs and she is warm and friendly. So glad we found her!”

“Jenny was brilliant - truly think we have found a gem of a place in her farm. Monty came home tuckered out and full of happiness. I think he had a great vacation! Highly recommend”

“Casey did a wonderful job with our 2 pups. She was thorough in her care for them and send us a couple photos and an update every evening which was so welcomed. It was our first time leaving our pups with someone we didn’t know, but Casey helped us be right at ease and we got to enjoy our vacation knowing they were in great care. Her kiddos left us some really sweet notes in their go-bag as well, which was delightful to read when we got home and unpacked.”

About: I have taken care of our elderly farm dogs for 2 years and a rambunctious new pup this year who has lots of energy! I have also helped my mom take care of her cats since I was 18. I am currently between jobs so this is perfect . I’m a very active person, I love walking and grounding in nature. It would be great to have some company on these walks! I have a fenced in back yard on a 3 acre land. I have a young dog named Charlie who is our farm dog, he is an excited rambunctious pup that helps protect our chickens, he can be crated if needed.
“Julie and her family did a wonderful job looking after my dog Margarita while I was away for a week. They gave her a lot of attention and love and Margarita loved staying with them. I highly recommend Julie to other dog parents!”

“Lindsay gave exceptional care to Maple. She kept us updated during our time away, and Maple was so happy to stay there. Would return to Lindsay in a heartbeat.”

“Mimi had a great time staying with Hazzar and her friendly pups and family. Hazzar kept me updated with pictures and tips for treats or types of food that Mimi liked while on her "pup vacation" and I felt confident Mimi was in good hands! Highly recommend Hazzar as a caring, reliable pet sitter guaranteed to take care of your pup and any stress you may feel leaving your pup.”

“Yana is amazing! She took such great care of my dog and sent daily pictures and updates which gave me peace of mind that he was happy and healthy while I was away. Highly recommend her!”

About: I’ve owned both dogs and cats and have cared for several family members’ pets for over 20 years! I’m a huge animal lover and miss having one of my own. I’m a stay-at-home-mom of 3 kids so I have plenty of time to walk and play! My schedule is extremely flexible and I’m available on weekends. I have an unfenced yard and live 20 feet from the Crozet trail system, right next to Claudius Crozet Park. We don’t have any pets of our own but my three kids (ages 4, 5 & 6) are very active and will play all day with your pet. My sister is a vet at Dominion Animal Hospital so I have immediate access to professional help if needed!
“Laura did an amazing job caring for our dog while we were on vacation. He came home happy from spending the week playing with Laura and her dogs—she even managed to brush him!! Looking at the photos she sent every day, we kept commenting to ourselves “he’s clearly on his own vacation, too!””

Madison is fantastic! She helped me out in a pinch and was great at communication. I could tell after only one day that Romeo, my dog, did not want to leave her! She has a lovely place with access to a swimming pool in a nice quiet neighborhood ideal for walking dogs, which was absolutely perfect for Romeo. Thanks again, Madison!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
