“Jani and Paul took wonderful care of our pups. They were very attentive to their routines and needs — and sent lots of great pictures every day. We will use them again in a heartbeat! Thank you!!”

“Julie and her family took wonderful care of, spoiled really, our dog Waffles. We are so thankful to have found Julie. We give Julie our highest recommendation for caring for other dogs.”

“Hope was amazing with our dog! She is very professional and caring and her dog, Loretta, is a sweetheart. Dexter felt super comfortable at her place and we felt very reassured about him staying with them.”

“Tyler was communicative, helpful, and flexible! Sundance had the best time out on his farm and came home happy. You can really tell Tyler enjoys time with animals and treats them like one of his own. Highly recommend!”

“Jenny was brilliant - truly think we have found a gem of a place in her farm. Monty came home tuckered out and full of happiness. I think he had a great vacation! Highly recommend”

“Charissa's boarding and care for dogs is exceptional. She has a deep understanding of dogs and is an excellent trainer. Her knowledge gave me peace of mind knowing that my dog was in good hands. Charissa provided regular updates and was always responsive. I highly recommend her services and will certainly use her again!”

About: I am available for regular petsitting, but I am also happy to assist with any dog handling needs for weddings! For weddings- I’ve handled and watched dogs for multiple friends weddings, and I had my dog in my wedding, so I know how important it is to have someone who can help! I am happy to pickup your dog, bring them to your wedding for photos and handle them for anything else you need, and drop them back at home, or pet sit them if needed! Message me for details. I have over 5 years of experience volunteering at animal shelters as a dog walker and dog socializer, and I often foster dogs through local rescue groups. I have also worked at dog daycare facilities and a veterinary clinic. I am very comfortable handling dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds and I have veterinary care experience so I will keep your pets safe and healthy while you are away. I've cared for my own dogs for 15 years now and I frequently pet sit for friends of mine and I love it! I am comfortable and experienced handling dogs with behavioral issues, including reactive dogs and dogs with separation anxiety. I also have experience providing dogs with injections and subcutaneous fluids. I work from home, so I can be with your dog all day if needed. I am flexible so I can work out a schedule that is best for your dog. I have a fenced back yard. I have one senior dog who is very chill and fine with other dogs in our home, so I can watch your dog at my house if they are a good fit, or at your house if that works better for your dog.
“Laura kept our 9-month old, 70lb 'puppy' for a week and we had a great experience. Laura was prompt, easy to deal with and kept in regular touch with us while we were away. Our dog had a learning curve to contend with - it was her first Rover experience and her first time living around other dogs. Laura handled it all without complaint . She provides lots of room to run, play and be free at her space.”

“Five stars are not enough. We recently visited Charlottesville from Atlanta to see our UVA student son and participate in the Charlottesville Marathon with him. We usually travel with Dexter, our very active golden retriever, but were not sure what to do with him before and during the race with such an early start. We were so very fortunate to find Heather, her wonderful family, and their amazing place here on Rover. We dropped Dexter off the afternoon before the race and picked him up the next day after the race. Communication with Heather was perfect during the booking process, leading up to drop off, during the stay--with great updates and photos, as well as on our way for a delayed pickup due to race traffic issues. Dexter easily settled with Heather and her family, and he got plenty of exercise. Dexter actually has a collar that tracks his steps and Dexter hit a new record during his stay that was nearly 3x his daily average (and remember we said Dexter is very active). Dexter was so welcomed and well cared for, when we arrived to pick him up he was happy to see us, but he honestly didn't seem very excited or wanting to leave, and knowing Dexter that speaks volumes. I almost felt bad reclaiming Dexter. It was a short visit for a long trip and weekend, but we left Charlottesville feeling very blessed and humbled by Heather and her family's hospitality. We are already looking forward to our next Charlottesville trip when Dexter can visit the farm again.”

“Alexandra and Logan were wonderful with my (sometimes overly) curious terrier, Eddie! I am always concerned about Eddie escaping to chase an animal, and they took my concerns seriously and took steps to ensure that wouldn't happen. Their fence setup was great too - the fenced-in yard wraps all the way around the house, so even if a dog slipped out of the house, they would still be in the yard. On top of that, they sent lots of pictures and were so kind to Eddie. He didn't want to leave!”

“Amanda was able to accommodate me on short notice and took great care of my dog. She kept me updated the whole time and was even flexible when my pickup time had to change. She'll be my first go-to the next time I need a sitter in Charlottesville.”

“She was amazing! I received pictures and updates while our dog was in her care. It made me feel really at ease seeing my dog so relaxed and enjoying her home/property. She was even able to accommodate extending her stay due to our travel being delayed. I HIGHLY recommend her and will definitely be using her services again! Thanks again Heather!”

About: I've been taking care of animals of all kinds since I was 12! I started volunteering early with a local humane society and have been active in rescues ever since. I have also fostered dogs from two months-10 years old, including medical fosters, so I'm comfortable giving pets medicine if need be. I currently work at UVA in their communications office, where I have a lot of flexibility, especially on Thursdays and Fridays when I work remotely. I'm available most weekends and many holidays! I live in a shared house with a unfenced backyard and a couple of roommates, both of whom love dogs! There's a trail near me that I enjoy walking dogs on if they are OK with other people/dogs. Otherwise, I take dogs on walks once or twice daily.
“This is Jake's second stay. Jocelyn has been more than accommodating and I think Jake has decided he likes it at her house. She has worked with me on all aspects of getting Jake to and from her house. Thank you so much! Jake and I appreciate you and are glad to have found you 💜.”

“Dorothy and Vernon took great care of our 6-month old puppy! We were out of town all afternoon/evening and they sent pics and videos of Willow having a great time in the yard and playing with toys inside. Would not hesitate to ask them to take care of Willow again.”

“Briane is the BEST! Our 10 year old rescue had a tough start to life, so as a result, he has some pretty bad anxiety. He LOVED every minute of his time with Briane - we can tell b/c she sent us lots of pics and updates! She was so kind and understanding of our guy’s issues and needs. He had a blast running around her huge yard, and also enjoyed lots of long walks. I cannot recommend her highly enough!”

“Cory responded to my frantic request for a sitter after a last minute cancellation. He and his family took really good care of my dog, Rain, sending pictures and updates. I highly recommend them. Very reliable”

“Will be booking again!! Melissa took such great care of my pup, she sent multiple pictures each day of their adventures and I could tell my pup was having the best time and being very well cared for. I sent over a long care guide and she confirmed and clarified everything on it so I had a peace of mind that my pup was in good hands. It can be tough putting your pet in the care of others but I highly recommend Melissa to ensure your pet is loved and cared for!”

“Amy went above and beyond for our little Dot today! She was a life saver as she was available on such short notice. Amy is extremely knowledgeable and worked with us on maintaining consistent training, feeding schedule, and nap schedule for Dot. We are fairly new pup parents and she offered some great advice for some good training techniques to try with Dot. Amy sent us pictures and videos of Dot having a wonderful time! Amy’s property is gorgeous! If I was a dog I would want to go to Miss Amy’s! So very grateful for her and her love for animals. We are so excited we found her and will be continuing care for Dot with her.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Keswick
Kyle and Meagan were absolutely fantastic. I would give them more than 5 stars if possible. My dog, Winston, has a heart condition and is rather high maintenance medically—so I was initially a little concerned that it would be difficult to find a reliable petsitter. They immediately put these worries to rest. I traveled internationally for almost 2 months, and they kept me updated of Winston with daily pics and videos. Kyle and Meagan are very responsive and professional. Winston is looking forward to staying with them again!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
