“I can't express enough how grateful I am for the wonderful care River receives at his home away from home. From the very first visit, it was clear that River was going to be treated like family. Their warm and welcoming environment makes every stay a delight. They go above and beyond to ensure River feels comfortable and loved. Whether it's engaging him in playtime, providing treats, or simply showering him with affection, their dedication shines through. I love receiving updates and pictures, which reassure me that he’s having a fantastic time. Knowing that River is in such capable hands allows me to relax and enjoy my time away. I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a caring and trustworthy home for their pets. Thank you for everything you do for River! 🐕 ♥️”

“Mary Alice was the absolute best at caring for our Baby! She took very meticulous notes about our dog's routine and likes; she sent us frequent pictures and notes about her day, and kept a log of her activity for the days she was there. It was the first time our dog had ever been left anywhere without us, so i was anxious, but Mary Alice allayed all of that; and when we picked Koda up, it was obvious that she loved her 'vacation home'! We will definitely use her next time we travel to Gordonsville!”

“James is the best!! Our dog was so excited to stay with him a second time, and James even got him a little gift while we were gone for the holidays. He’s great with communication, and I always appreciate the photo updates. I highly recommend booking with James if you can!”
“Meredith is an angel with our sweet pup! She kept him for the duration of our cruise, and updated us with several pictures and a video. She was able to cater to our specific feeding needs, as well as administering medication. We are so lucky to have a puppysitter that treats him with such love and care.”

“Ashley watched my Lexie, 5 and a half year old black lab, for 6 days. She provided me daily updates and photos of Lexi's activities to keep me informed that she was doing well. I highly recommend Ashley as a resource to care for your dog as well.”

“Riley is simply the best dog sitter you can search for. She is conscientious, organized, responsive, and she loves dogs. Her way with dogs is special; she paid attention to our dog for the week we booked, and the entire time we were away, we were at ease knowing our dog was cared for like family. It is without reservation that we give the highest rating for Riley - again, simply the best!”

About: My wife Sherry and I have had pets for the last 31 years of marriage. We know how important it is to find a responsible and trusting person to take care of your pets while you're away. Let us take care of your precious pets and we will treat them like our own. You can have them hosted in our house or we can make drop in visits at yours. We live in a secluded area with a large yard which your pets will enjoy. I'm an IT professional and my wife stays home so there is always someone looking after your pets. We'll take the stress away from you while you are away from your pets by treating them like our own. I work full time but my wife Sherry is home all day. We are a team a she will look after the pets during the day and we both will take care of them at night. We currently don't have any dogs since we recently lost our little old man Monty. We have one indoor/outdoor cat named Creature which is very friendly. We have a large back yard which is not fenced but we can take them out on a leash or tie them up on a lead an supervise them. Our property is secluded and is not close to a road so, there is no danger from traffic.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
