“If you're anything like me and hate leaving your furry family member for any amount of time, let me just say there are NO worries while in Charity's care! She is PHENOMENAL and the communication is top notch. We've had experiences in the past boarding our dog Janey that weren't pleasant so we were worried about this trip, but Charity treated her as her own and the daily updates with photos were extremely comforting. If you need an AMAZING sitter then Charity is the one! You won't be disappointed!!!”

“Beau was really part of their family for the week and had a wonderful time! So well cared for. We also got regular updates and pictures from Hillary. Highly recommend!”

“Our dog connected with Heather immediately! It was clear from the photos and messages that our dog was enjoying her time with Heather and extremely comfortable in her home. Heather is personable and professional, and we would book her again to care for our dog.”

“This is the 2nd time I left my dog Maggie in Heather's care. Heather did a great job and cared for Maggie well. Maggie had a great time playing with her furry and human friends every day and she always looks happy in the pictures Heather sent me. I will ask for Heather's help next time I'm away.”

“Natasha is awesome! Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of Charlie. He came home so relaxed and happy. She took Charlie for walking also. She has such a kind, gentle way with dogs, and her communication was fantastic—frequent photos, updates and super prompt responses the whole time. We will absolutely look to her for future pet care and will gladly recommend her to everyone we know!”

“Stephen and his family took such good care of Bentley while I moved. I received frequent updates and pictures. He took Bentley for long walks and gave him lots of love! I would highly recommend Stephen!”

Katina is absolutely amazing! She takes great care of our dog while he’s there and he comes home happy. Katina is very communicative and provides a great environment inside and outside for our dog. We always feel comfortable going on a trip when we leave our dog with her. I highly recommend Katina and her facility!

Came into town to Charlottesville for a weekend golf trip, Jessica stayed with my pup to ease his anxiety while I was away in an unfamiliar area. She was GREAT with him by playing with him, talking him for lots of walks, keeping him constantly occupied to help keep his mind busy while I was away. She hand fed him when he wasn't eating & she kept in constant communication with me the whole time as well & sent me pics & videos all throughout. Thank you Jessica!!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
