“Magda and Chris were amazing. So kind and caring with Mogi. Magda sent me regular check ins that showed how comfortable Mogi was with them. It was great knowing that Mogi was safe and happy during my weekend away.”

“Hope was the absolute best! She watched Ollie during our wedding weekend and although it was her first time, it seemed like she has been watching him for years. He was so comfortable with her and she was so responsive with us, sending tons of pictures. We don’t live in the area but if we did we would use her every time!!”

“Mary Alice took amazing care of my cat, Tilly! She was super communicative -- sending multiple photos and videos of Tilly daily. She went above and beyond on play time. I'd recommend Mary Alice wholeheartedly!”

“This is my second time taking my pup to Robin and brought along a friends dog for a puppy play date weekend. I felt completely comfortable with Robin and I know my dogs felt the same way. Robin feels like an old friend at this point and will be the only place I bring Ollie now.”

“She was amazing! I received pictures and updates while our dog was in her care. It made me feel really at ease seeing my dog so relaxed and enjoying her home/property. She was even able to accommodate extending her stay due to our travel being delayed. I HIGHLY recommend her and will definitely be using her services again! Thanks again Heather!”

“Andrea and family were so great with my dog. Roxy is a little neurotic but they treated her like a member of their family and took such good care of her! I definitely recommend them and will use them again when I go out of town!”

“So helpful, my booking was last minute and i greatly appreciate Whitney being able to watch my pups for me. My dogs were so warm out from playing so much at her house. Will definitely keep her at the top of my list!”

“Kara was easy to work with and flexible with drop off and pick up times. She truly enjoys dogs and cats, and her dog Bandit got along great with Fritz. I will be booking again with her.”

“Jennifer was very quick to respond and sent me lots of pictures of my pup 😁 which I really appreciated and made me feel better since it was our first time using her. We will be doing it again. 🫶🏼”

“Once again Cori made me feel really good about leaving my pups in her care. She’s a doll to work with. As if one quirky bull terrier isn’t enough, how about adding a 1 y/o bull terrier and leaving both for 2 weeks? Cori had her hands full but dealt with the issues the young one caused (regression potty training issues, territorial issues, etc). As always, very communicative and understanding about the young one (we figured out that since Pixie was newly rescued, that she must’ve been confused about yet another home she’d been shuffled off to and that was probably the source of the angst). Bodie wasn’t neglected or ignored in this. He may have even gotten to sleep in a human bed… 😂 We don’t have any trips planned any time soon but Cori’s still top of my list (if she’ll have Pixie again!) when I need someone.”

“I left my pup with Edith over the holidays and she had a great time. There was a fenced in yard she got to tire herself out in running around with the friends she made with Edith's dogs. If the dogs didn't get along, there are different areas in the house to keep them separated, so there was never any worry that my pup would have a comfortable stay.”

“Rebecca was able to take our pet over Thanksgiving week as our regular sitter had an emergency. She met with Olympia and from there our we knew our pet was in good hands. Although we were away, we knew our pet had plenty of company to keep her to keep her occupied and entertained in our absence. Thank you Rebecca for opening your home for our girl and keeping her safe until our return.”

“Wonderful experience ! Heather and her family were very welcoming and accommodating. They were flexible and extended the stay for our dogs when we needed to stay an extra day. The dogs were very happy and enjoyed playing with her little girls. I will definitely request Heather when we board our pups.”

“Paige is amazing! She was thoughtful and communicative ahead of time about how Pepper might interact with the other dogs and made sure she had space for a break if needed. She had comfy beds all over that pepper took full advantage of, haha. She sent lots of pictures so we felt connected while we were gone. Everything went super smoothly and we would absolutely use Paige again! She even dropped off a little Christmas gift weeks later :).”

“Our family found dog Vacay just a few days before leaving for our vacation and we are grateful we did! We were even more grateful to find Courtney, she made our dog Popeye feel at home. She provided us with regular updates on how Popeye was adjusting, eating, sleeping, etc. We are appreciative of her kindness and patience while we were away. She is definitely a gem. Thanks Courtney!”

“They were very responsive, and were able to help me out with only a few days notice. When I checked in to see how things were going, they sent me a picture immediately. I had no concerns, and would definitely recommend them.”

“Meredith is an angel with our sweet pup! She kept him for the duration of our cruise, and updated us with several pictures and a video. She was able to cater to our specific feeding needs, as well as administering medication. We are so lucky to have a puppysitter that treats him with such love and care.”

“Riley is simply the best dog sitter you can search for. She is conscientious, organized, responsive, and she loves dogs. Her way with dogs is special; she paid attention to our dog for the week we booked, and the entire time we were away, we were at ease knowing our dog was cared for like family. It is without reservation that we give the highest rating for Riley - again, simply the best!”

“I Highly recommend Joey! I boarded Piper for three days. After meeting Joey and seeing his multiple fenced yards and runs i was able to enjoy an important weekend without worry.. thanks again and look forward to having Piper there again. Stephen W.”

Charity Ann took wonderful care of our dog Dooley while we were out of town. You can tell she genuinely loves animals and was so in tune with helping Dooley adjust to his new surroundings. Her dogs and cats are adorable. Charity Ann sent pictures and updates which we so appreciated. Will definitely have Dooley stay with her again.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
