“Okay, review #1. hehe My cat Ginger was in a deep sleep when she flew out of bed and ran to the door when she heard Lucy's voice. I can't top that review. Lucy is extremely responsible and caring. We had to pivot on some of Ginger's normal routines due to the cold weather and Lucy make everything happen smoothly. We have used her a few times now and we have already rebooked her again!! Thanks Lucy so much for making out get aways more special.”

“Lori was fantastic! After meeting her, I was assured that she does this purely out of her love for dogs, not just the extra cash! She sent great updates regularly and pics and I felt at ease while travelling knowing my most precious boy was being well tended to.”

“Courtney was excellent with the dogs and taking care of the house. She actually put her sheets and towels into the laundry! I find her exceptionally responsible and recommend her highly.”
“Taylor was exceptional during her 10 day stay with our cat and dog. She sent daily photos, maintained great communication, and made us feel extremely comforted knowing the pets were in good hands. She initiated a meet up with the critters before her stay, which made us feel great about how the animals and her would get along. Would highly recommend her and we will be reaching out again for our next get away.”

“Our dogs are always happy to see Ross. It is comforting knowing that your pets are happy when you are away. I’d recommend Ross as he is very caring and our dogs love him.🐶”

“I can’t recomand Tamanna and Pramod enough. They took such great care of my cat and my two rats. Both my cats and my rats had difficult diets and they did very well accommodated each and every one of them. We kept in contact every day and update me on the babies. Both Tamanna and Pramod are so warm and friendly, there was no issue communicating with them. They are truly the best!”

“Loren went above and beyond learning about recurrent ear infections with poodles and followed up my instruction of paying attention to my dog scratching her ear and giving her the medication. I trust Loren will treat Emma like her dog when I am gone out of town. Loren’s responses were prompt and honest. I found my home clean when I got back. I highly recommend Loren for dog sitting.”

“We were happy with the care our dogs received while we were away. They were healthy and happy when we got home, which gave us great peace of mind. Communication was easy, and the sitter was friendly and dependable throughout the stay.. The only small issue is that the amount of time spent with our dogs wasn't quite what we had expected based on our discussions beforehand. It wasn't a major issue, just expected more time at home with the boys! Overall, we appreciate the care our dogs received and would gladly recommend this sitter to others! She's a busy girl, book her in advance!!”

“Cleah did a wonderful job handling Jerry's medical emergency and communicated every update with us. She took him back and forth to the vet and cleaned up all his vomit and took care of him as best she could. She helped reschedule our house sitting reservation so I could come home early from vaacation to take care of Jerry myself. 10/10 would recommend Cleah.”

About: I have had my own dog, Bear, for 10 years. He’s a highly excitable beagle-dachshund mix! As a university student, I’m always looking to give back to my community in the summers. I’d love to help out my fellow pet-lovers by ensuring their dog gets their needs exceeded while feeling comfortable and loved. With a flexible schedule and calm demeanour, I can help unload the stresses of life by giving your dog the care they deserve🐾 From July-August I have a highly flexible schedule. Pet care fits perfectly into my daily life as a student since my summer-job has come to a close and school does not begin until September. I can help at those difficult times when both work and your dog need attention at once. I will always take the time to learn the precautions you have set up for your dog, whether that be fencing, gates, crates, or a designated play area. You can trust me to respect any special requests as I understand the needs dogs sometimes require. My own dog is on daily medication and requires mobility assistance for stairs.
“Kathleen was so amazing and collaborative! Such great care for our girls and shared lots of photos so we could see they were well taken care of. We really appreciated the communication and flexibility!! She is awesome!”

“Carman has now become my go to for watching my little guy Sal. This was the longest I had ever left him, Carman did such a good job sending me photos and keeping my mind at ease knowing he was in the best hands and had a friend to keep him company.”

Since I'm home throughout the day, I can provide a high level of supervision and quick responses for any last minute needs. I treat your home with the same care I treat my own. While house sitting, I stay tidy, follow all house rules, and ensure your pet’s environment stays consistent and without stress. I provide detailed updates and photos after every visit or throughout a stay. I’m also happy to handle small household tasks.
About: I've been caring for dogs since I was 15 and have experience with dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities. I grew up with two Dachshunds, who are now 15 years old and live with my father. Caring for them taught me the patience and attention that senior dogs need. Whether it's walks, feeding, playtime, medications if needed, or plenty of love and companionship, I'll follow your dog's routine to help them feel safe, comfortable, and happy while you're away I currently work part-time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and the occasional Thursday or Friday. Vixie was literally everything I could have asked for and more in a pet sitter. I truly was not worried for a single second about leaving my high energy 8 month old puppy in her care for a week while I was away (as a constant worrier, this is REALLY saying something). Vixie gave amazing regular updates (with photos!!) and was amazing at responding & communicating throughout the week. There really is no better sitter and I cannot relay my gratitude enough, there just are no words. An absolute superstar!!!!

Tamanna & Pramod stayed at our home with our two cats, and I could not be happier. They kept me informed with how the girls were doing by sending pictures and e-mails. Most importantly, they were wonderful with the cats who were happy and relaxed when we got home. One of them was very shy the first day, but it did not take long for her to get back to her normal self under their excellent care. I plan to ask them to care for them again next time we travel.

Jocelyn provided excellent care for Pownal (as always)! He managed to injure himself while she was watching him and had no complaints that he was extra sulky and needing more love. She also communicated with us about it right away and offered to stay longer to keep an eye on him.

Lucy looked after our dog Scrappy in our home for a week and we couldn’t be happier with how well she cared for Scrappy and how respectfully she treated our home. Her kind demeanour helped immediately earn Scrappy’s trust (which isn’t always easy). She took the time to ask us about his routines and behaviour so she could work with his few quirks. We could tell in the photos she sent us just how happy and content he was which was a big relief for us while we were travelling. We would absolutely recommend Lucy to anyone looking for dog sitting! Thanks again Lucy!

I was pretty nervous using this app for the first time but when I met Rhonda she seemed very kind and reaponsible. She definitely did not let me down. Before I even reached my destination she had sent me pictures of my beloved cat Pi and subsequently everyday after as well. I felt so relieved my pet was being taken care of and it allowed me to enjoy my vacation so much more. Thank you so so much Rhonda! You’re the best!

We couldn’t be happier with the care Amanda gave our two dogs, Bailey and Ruby! From the moment we left, we felt completely at ease knowing they were in such loving and capable hands. Amanda went above and beyond to make sure they were happy, comfortable, and well cared for. She kept us updated with messages and photos, which meant so much and really showed how much she genuinely cares. When we came home, Bailey and Ruby were relaxed, content, and clearly had a wonderful time. If you’re looking for someone trustworthy, attentive, and truly great with dogs, Amanda is the one. We wouldn’t hesitate to have her look after them again! She's Paw-Some:)

Highly recommend Britney! It was a pleasure to have her stay with our animals. She took great care of our pets and our home. Britney sent pictures and updates, helped make sure things were taken care of at our house and kept everything nice and clean. The bed sheets and towels were washed, the floors vacuumed and more! We will definitely reach out to have her again and recommend her to anyone looking.

FAQs for House Sitting - Halifax
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Halifax on Rover is $52.24 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 323 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Halifax. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Halifax maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Halifax walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Halifax choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 73% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
