“Ross did such a wonderful job keeping an eye on both our home and two very neurotic dogs for a week while we were out of the country. They're behaviourally spicy at times, and have some complicated medicine regimens, and Ross handled both with aplomb while making sure everything at the home front was safe and sound. We are so appreciative of his timeliness, care, and communication style - he kept us up-to-date with lots of photos, videos, and text updates, which was very much appreciated. We would not hesitate to book his services again in the future!”

“Wow, Courtney was the first Pet Sitter we have ever used and we can't be more satisfied! She took excellent care of our two cats Chili and Pepper. She kept us posted on their days and made sure they had their walks and all the attention they craved. We will definitely hire her again and would recommend her 100%”
“Lori is a delight! Very friendly and kind. She stayed at our home and took excellent care of our two cats. She is great at providing updates and was extremely respectful of our home. We’re happy we found a sitter we can count on now for future trips 🙂 Highly recommend!!!”

“Loren went above and beyond learning about recurrent ear infections with poodles and followed up my instruction of paying attention to my dog scratching her ear and giving her the medication. I trust Loren will treat Emma like her dog when I am gone out of town. Loren’s responses were prompt and honest. I found my home clean when I got back. I highly recommend Loren for dog sitting.”

“Taylor was exceptional during her 10 day stay with our cat and dog. She sent daily photos, maintained great communication, and made us feel extremely comforted knowing the pets were in good hands. She initiated a meet up with the critters before her stay, which made us feel great about how the animals and her would get along. Would highly recommend her and we will be reaching out again for our next get away.”

“Benjamin , Was great . Having a dog with Pica , I was worried about leaving my dogs with someone. He asked questions to make sure he knows what our dog with Pica needed , our other dog and our cat . Will be re booking with him . He left our house clean . Would recommend him any day .”

“Gigi is the best!!! She was so kind and took amazing care of our sweet Molly (who is unique and has narcolepsy so we are always nervous leaving her). Excellent communication, and it is so clear she adores animals. Would definitely rebook in the future. 1000/10 reccomend”

“Cleah is wonderful. Great communication, conscientious, caring - everything you want in a pet sitter! She sat our two dogs, including one that is a bit of a problem child - quirky, both physically and mentally - and Cleah was able to keep her happy and healthy for the two weeks we were away. And I was quite sure our other one was going to try to leave in her suitcase!! House looked fine when we got back too, so it was very easy to just walk in, unpack and relax after a long trip! Thanks Cleah!!”

“Naomi did a great job with our kids (pittie mix 7yo, and two goldens 3yo and 10 weeks). She had them out for good walks daily. The kids loved her and she loved them back. We will call her again next time the kids need babysitting.”

“Signy did a great job dogsitting my two big sometimes nervous/reactive pups for a week while I was out of town. They seemed to love her, and were very happy pups when I got home. Signy was great with keeping me updated, and checking in about some minor stomach issues that cropped up with one of the pups while I was away. I also came home to a spotless house, which is always nice after being away! I will definitely be contacting Signy again next time I need a sitter.”

“Jaime was a wonderful pet sitter! Communicative, thorough and my pets definitely loved her! Coming home to a clean (better than I left it tbh) home with happy and tired pets was such a joy after flying all day. I recommend Jaime whole heartedly and will certainly ask her to watch my Duck and Goose in the future! Thanks Jaime ❤️”

“Mallory has a very kind and calming presence! She was so great with our two spoiled golden retrievers, getting up early and providing multiple daily walks. She provided daily updates including pictures and videos, and also took great care of our home. I would highly recommend her and will definitely use her services again!”

“Had Autumn stay at our house for a couple nights while we were out of town with my two female German shepherd dogs. Autumn was very friendly and early for both the meet & greet and the house stay. Felt comfortable leaving my girls with her, they seem super content. She was very clean and tidy.”

“Jaiden did an excellent job with Bucky! She took him for long walks and kept him happy while we were gone. She was flexible when we needed to extend our stay due to the weather. We would definitely book her again!!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Halifax
Clara was the perfect pet and house sitter! She was very friendly, reliable and a great communicator. She did a great job with our high energy 80lb dog and our three cats. Lots of photos were provided over the week and regular updates on how the pets were doing. Clara also accomodated a last minute change to add an extra day. Bonus that the house was tidy on our arrival home. Thanks again Clara. We highly recommend her for any pet or house sitting jobs!

Maggie gave us peace of mind while we were away for 9 nights. She was great with our two cane corsos and 4 cats. Not only did she take great care of them, the house was neat and tidy when we got home (she even washed and made the bed for us). We will definitely rebook with Maggie next time we go away.

You cannot put a value on how much it means to be able to leave your pet when you go on vacation and not have to worry. Our 14 year old German Shepherd absolutely adores Kate. We've booked them several times and really appreciate getting little updates several times a day with photos and check ins to let us know how Pippin is doing. ❤️

We had a great experience with this lovely couple. They stayed in our home and took wonderful care of Blue and Masha while we were away. They kept in touch and sent us updates every day, which we really appreciated. When we returned, the house was in pristine condition, everything had been very well taken care of, and most importantly, both animals were happy and relaxed. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for reliable and caring pet sitters, and we will definitely use them again.

Tamanna and Pramod did an excelent job! We love them, but most importantly, Murphy does too and he gets so excited now when he sees them. We booked Tamanna and Pramod for the third time in a row now. We changed the routine a few times around regarding food/ medicine and supplements for our boy, Murphy (due to some health issues) and we are so grateful that Murphy continued to have the same amount of care in Tamanna’s and Pramod watch. We could not be happier for their excellent care and could not recomand them enough!

Lori is a delight! Very friendly and kind. She stayed at our home and took excellent care of our two cats. She is great at providing updates and was extremely respectful of our home. We’re happy we found a sitter we can count on now for future trips 🙂 Highly recommend!!!

Gigi is the best!!! She was so kind and took amazing care of our sweet Molly (who is unique and has narcolepsy so we are always nervous leaving her). Excellent communication, and it is so clear she adores animals. Would definitely rebook in the future. 1000/10 reccomend

Natalia was amazing with our German shepherd Frankie! She housesat for us for a 10 day trip and everything went perfectly smooth. We came home to a clean house and a happy dog. She provided lots of updates and took her on longer walks which we really appreciated. We’ve had a bad experience previously on Rover and it was so nice to have someone trustworthy who we knew was actually taking care of our pup! Will definitely be booking with her in the future :)

Signy was great with our reactive pooch. She made us feel very comfortable that we were leaving her in good hands while we went camping with little to no service. She kept my baby happy and healthy and was great dealing with her leash/dog reactivity. Would definitely use her again.

Ben was exceptional! We have a full house with 3 cats and a large dog that are new to living with each other but Ben took great care of everyone and made sure these anxious mamas were updated on the babies, despite us having limited service on our trip. When we returned, the house was tidy, he'd done his own laundry and our fur kids were all very happy and well cared for. Definitely will be booking him again when we need care!

Lyne was amazing! She took great care of our dog and cats while we were away. We got lots of updates with pictures. When we came back, the house looked the exact same as we left it! This was our first time leaving our fur babies home on vacation and we very much appreciate the care she gave them and reassurance she gave us. We would definitely book her again!!

Jenna did an excellent job of caring for our girl. When you meet her you can immediately tell how much she loves dogs and understands dog behaviour and their individual quirks. Emmy liked her right away and I felt confident that she would do a great job. She sent pics and videos to keep us updated while we were away. I highly recommend Jenna if you are looking for a pet/houses interested!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Halifax on Rover is $53.28 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 322 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Halifax. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Halifax maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Halifax walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Halifax choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 75% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
