“This was our senior dog Snuggles’ first time staying with a sitter, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. She took such thoughtful care of her—making sure she felt relaxed, comfortable, and loved. She spent lots of time with her, took her on regular walks, and really tuned in to her needs. We came home to a very happy dog and Courtney took great care of our home. Highly recommend Courtney for pet sitting and will definitely welcome her back!”

“Lori is fantastic with our 2 dogs. Always leaves our house cleaner than when she arrived and is a great communicator before during and after her sitting. I think you can tell when someone really cares.”

“Taylor was absolutely amazing. This was my first time ever leaving my dog overnight with a sitter, and from the moment I met her, I felt completely at ease knowing Ozzy was in great hands. She kept us consistently updated with photos and communicated clearly throughout the stay. Taylor is now my go-to dog sitter, and I couldn’t recommend her more.”

“Another vacation away for us and another week Charlie our Golden retriever got to spend with Benjamin. Charlie seems to really enjoy his time with Ben. We highly recommend Ben for your house sitting and dog walking needs”

“Jenna was a great sitter and for the first time I was able to go away and enjoy myself knowing my babies were in good hands!! She was very responsive and sent photos which definitely helped, and was great with following all of the many instructions for ensuring all of my pets were taken care of and happy :) Overall, a great sitter and would definitely book again for any future travel plans!”

“Cleah did a great job taking care of my pug while I was away. She gave her lots of attention and exercise. Cleah even gave her a treat for her birthday. I never had to worry. I knew my dog was in good hands.”

“Loren was great! She kept us updated the entire time and our boy Duke felt right at home. He’s a big boy and she handled him perfectly. I would very much recommend her for your pup!”

“This was our first time using someone on Rover to look after our precious dogs. Miranda is really good with them. We were nervous leaving them overnight but they were well taken care of and we won’t hesitate to use her services again for our next trip.”

“5 star plus for Kathleen. We have a selective/unique cockerspaniel who loved her. She provided daily pics and updates keeping us in the know, especially when we were missing him. She left the house in great condition and communicated efficiently with family that was helping out. Thank you, Kathleen. Look forward to booking you again for our next getaway.”

“Jaime was a wonderful pet sitter! Communicative, thorough and my pets definitely loved her! Coming home to a clean (better than I left it tbh) home with happy and tired pets was such a joy after flying all day. I recommend Jaime whole heartedly and will certainly ask her to watch my Duck and Goose in the future! Thanks Jaime ❤️”

“Jacques stay at our house to look after our two golden retrievers, Daisy and Rufus, and our bearded dragon, Spike. He did a wonderful job maintaining the dogs’ comfortable daily routine, and we really appreciated the daily updates that showed how well everyone was doing. When we got home, the dogs were happy, calm, and perfectly themselves— a good sign of the quality care they received. It was so reassuring to know they were in capable hands while we were away. Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Halifax
We are repeat customers of Ross and can’t say enough good about him. He is professional, responsive and great company for my very anxious dog. He administered my dog’s medications as directed, and provided lots of updates throughout the stay. I really feel like I can trust and count on Ross - those who have an anxious pet will know how valuable that is! I would absolutely recommend Ross to anyone who is looking for a pet sitter.

Jaime was so lovely to us and our senior gal, Jeans. She is a pro who navigated our dog’s daily meds and separation anxiety by meeting her with such a calming presence and keeping in touch with us throughout her stay. Would gladly have her back and highly recommend for those looking to have peace of mind while they’re away.

Clara was amazing with our cat, Billy! We were a bit hesitant to leave him with a sitter for the weekend because of an ongoing health concern, but she was incredibly responsive, proactive, and put our minds at ease with lots of photos and updates. She even went above and beyond by keeping timed notes whenever Billy had symptoms, so we knew exactly when they happened and what he was doing at the time. On top of that, Billy absolutely loved Clara and adjusted to her so quickly. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and would highly recommend her!

Vixie was literally everything I could have asked for and more in a pet sitter. I truly was not worried for a single second about leaving my high energy 8 month old puppy in her care for a week while I was away (as a constant worrier, this is REALLY saying something). Vixie gave amazing regular updates (with photos!!) and was amazing at responding & communicating throughout the week. There really is no better sitter and I cannot relay my gratitude enough, there just are no words. An absolute superstar!!!!

Tamanna & Pramod stayed at our home with our two cats, and I could not be happier. They kept me informed with how the girls were doing by sending pictures and e-mails. Most importantly, they were wonderful with the cats who were happy and relaxed when we got home. One of them was very shy the first day, but it did not take long for her to get back to her normal self under their excellent care. I plan to ask them to care for them again next time we travel.

Jocelyn provided excellent care for Pownal (as always)! He managed to injure himself while she was watching him and had no complaints that he was extra sulky and needing more love. She also communicated with us about it right away and offered to stay longer to keep an eye on him.

Lucy looked after our dog Scrappy in our home for a week and we couldn’t be happier with how well she cared for Scrappy and how respectfully she treated our home. Her kind demeanour helped immediately earn Scrappy’s trust (which isn’t always easy). She took the time to ask us about his routines and behaviour so she could work with his few quirks. We could tell in the photos she sent us just how happy and content he was which was a big relief for us while we were travelling. We would absolutely recommend Lucy to anyone looking for dog sitting! Thanks again Lucy!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Halifax on Rover is $53.28 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 322 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Halifax. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Halifax maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Halifax walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Halifax choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 75% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
