“We used Courtney for the first time to look after our dog and cat while we were away for four days. She did a fantastic job and kept us updated with pictures. Everyone was happy, well fed, well taken care of, and she left the house tidy. I would definitely recommend Courtney. We will ask for her help again in the future. Thank you very much, Courtney.”

“Lori was incredible. Laidback, effective and ensured our pups were comfortable. She came to meet them and another time to make sure they knew her when she stayed in our home while we vacationed. She cleaned, staged our our home (we are selling) and entertained our pups during showings. She even left us some food for our homecoming! Communication excellent. Can't say enough. Wow!”

“Had Autumn stay at our house for a couple nights while we were out of town with my two female German shepherd dogs. Autumn was very friendly and early for both the meet & greet and the house stay. Felt comfortable leaving my girls with her, they seem super content. She was very clean and tidy.”

“Miranda was an amazing dog sitter and dog walker. She is always available at a moments notice if need be and treated Ernie like he was her own. She has been amazing and would 10/10 definitely recommend her services!”
“Kathleen was so amazing and collaborative! Such great care for our girls and shared lots of photos so we could see they were well taken care of. We really appreciated the communication and flexibility!! She is awesome!”

“Cleah is wonderful. Great communication, conscientious, caring - everything you want in a pet sitter! She sat our two dogs, including one that is a bit of a problem child - quirky, both physically and mentally - and Cleah was able to keep her happy and healthy for the two weeks we were away. And I was quite sure our other one was going to try to leave in her suitcase!! House looked fine when we got back too, so it was very easy to just walk in, unpack and relax after a long trip! Thanks Cleah!!”

“Julia was prompt in responding to our needs & there for us her calm manner made it a perfect fit for my rescue dog that has epilepsy that requires home stays & medication administration. I am so glad we used Julia we will be using her again! We finally were able to go away with no worries having Julia tend to all our pets 1 dog & 3 cats. & also provided us with photos of them all relaxing at home was so glad to see them in good hands. ?”

“Alexandra took excellent care of my two cats. She made sure that Cleo had her medication on time. She sent pictures while I was away, which I enjoyed. Would definitely get Alexandra again .”

“Kelsey was absolutely wonderful with Gertie. Photos and updates on how she was doing. My mind was at ease with Kelsey here for the 4 nights and the house was left in tip top shape. Thanks again!!”
“Mallory did an excellent job with our anxious labradoodle Bindi while we were away. Mallory also left our house clean and tidy. We have already booked her again for a longer sitting and we would highly recommend Mallory to anyone looking for a dog/house sitter!”

“Louise was amazing minding our 2 dogs overnight at our home, we had a trip planned for months and a sitter let us down last minute. On short notice Louise cancelled her own social event to help us out! Moving forward she will be our go to sitter, best we have found on Rover to date.”

“Emily once again took great care of our feline friend over the weekend. Excellent communication, lots of photos, and super professional. Thanks again for giving us such peace of mind and providing our cat with terrific care!”

“Lyne is a wonderful person and an incredible dog sitter. I would highly recommend her to care for your dogs. My dogs love her and I feel relaxed knowing she is giving them such love and care when I have to be away from them.”

“Fantastic dog sitters! It was the first time we left our dog (who is blind and has a history of seizures) with someone. Cassandra and Mark were kind and caring. They did not hesitate to take on our sweet girl’s special issues. They provided us with updates and both dog and cat were happy and healthy when we returned. Highly recommend!”

About: I have had newfies and cats since I was a baby and have grown up taking care of pets. Over covid I got to train my parents 6 month old Newfie puppy, and since moving to Halifax I have gotten a super chatty Siamese cat who I am not allowed to stop talking to (she wont let me)! I have gotten to look after so many cats and dogs for friends and roommates and no matter if they're a couch dog or one who likes running, I'll be happy to make sure they're having fun and well fed! I work a very flexible job at a local bike shop so I'll always be able to make sure theyre well walked, fed, and exercised! With later morning starts I always start my day with some exercise so I would love a fuzzy friend to accompany me! I am vigilent about safety and am always making sure pets cant get into food, are watched well when playing, and that the spot their playing in is safe!
About: I love animals so much and have had them in my life since a very young age. I will love your animal like my own and will keep them happy until your return! I own my own spa business out of my home so I am flexible to be able to fit visits in with your pet through the day. The pets in my house (I have a dog and two cats) are spoiled rotten! I believe that all animals are a gift to us! I have the ability to administer medication to your pets if needed also. I am flexible for whatever your animals needs are - just ask!
About: New to Rover? I’ve got a little welcome gift for you! 🎁🐶 Use my promo code BENC81459 and get $20 off your first booking when you sign up. About me 🙋♂️ 🐾 Structured, Loving, Caring and Attentive In-Home Dog Care ❤️ Hi, I’m Ben — a loving dog dad to three rescues: Jackson, Quincy, and Wee Jojo 💜 I work from home and intentionally keep my bookings limited to ensure every dog in my care receives focused, individualized attention within a calm, structured home environment. When your pup stays with me, they are integrated into my daily routine — not just “watched,” but genuinely loved and cared for. ⸻ 🛡️ Safety & Supervision Your dog’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. ✔ Fully fenced and secure backyard ✔ Dogs are always supervised while outside — never left unattended ✔ Baby gates installed for additional safety layers ✔ Separate feeding areas to prevent food guarding and manage allergies ✔ Dogs always kept on leash during walks I am experienced in reading canine body language and adjusting routines based on each dog’s temperament and comfort level. ⸻ 🚶 Adventure Walks & Enrichment We are fortunate to live near beautiful trails, including scenic adventure walks around Bell Lake 🌲💧 Walks typically range from 1–2 hours depending on your dog’s energy level and include: • Structured leash walking • Sniffing and mental enrichment • Lakeside and wooded trail exploration Adventure walks are always tailored to your dog’s energy level, personality, and confidence. In addition, dogs enjoy: • Supervised backyard play • Evening neighborhood walks • Calm indoor enrichment and rest time ⸻ 🏡 Home Environment My home is designed with dogs in mind: • Three-level home with ample indoor space • Six dog beds throughout the house • Sofas and blankets available for comfort • Flowing water fountains on multiple levels (filters cleaned and replaced regularly) • Heated home during winter months • Dehumidifier for clean, comfortable air Dogs are welcome throughout my home. ⸻ ❤️ Rescue & Anxiety Experience I have extensive experience caring for rescue dogs and managing anxiety, including separation anxiety. Growing up, my mother rescued and fostered dogs on our family farm. I was actively involved in their daily care and learned early how to nurture nervous or sensitive dogs with patience and structure. Today, I continue that experience with my own three rescues. ⸻ 💬 Communication I understand how difficult it can be to leave your dog. You will receive structured updates four times daily: ✅ Morning ✅ Afternoon ✅ Evening ✅ Before bed Each update includes photos, videos, and a brief summary so you always feel informed and at ease. ⸻ 📅 Meet & Greets I prefer to schedule a meet & greet before every first booking. This allows us to ensure a comfortable fit and gives your pup the opportunity to explore my fenced garden and interact calmly with my dogs. ⸻ 🌟 Final Note Providing a safe, structured, and loving environment is something I take seriously. I understand that trusting someone with your dog is a significant decision — and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. My goal is for you to feel completely confident in your decision, knowing your dog is safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. ❤️ 📆 DAILY ROUTINE I work from home five days a week, which allows me to maintain a consistent and attentive routine for the dogs in my care. Morning (6:00 AM) We start the day early with a structured walk to the nearby lake. The round trip typically takes around two hours, providing exercise, enrichment, and calm exploration to start the day off right. Midday Throughout the day, dogs enjoy supervised outdoor time in my fully fenced garden, where they can safely run, play, and explore. Dogs are always attended and never left alone outside. Evening After work, we go for a relaxed walk around the neighborhood before settling in for the evening. Throughout the day, dogs also have access to comfortable indoor rest spaces and enrichment activities tailored to their energy level. 🛡️ Safety & Wellbeing My home is a safe, structured environment, and the safety and wellbeing of both your dog and my own dogs is my highest priority. Because I work from home, your dog will never be left alone. I am present throughout the day to supervise, monitor, and ensure everyone remains comfortable and secure. My property is fully fenced, and all outdoor time is supervised to maintain a safe and controlled environment.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Cole Harbour
Autumn was a great pet and house sitter while we were away for a week. She was very responsible, communicative and our dog and cat loved her. She shared regular pictures and updates and ensured they stayed safe in the summer heat. Highly recommend working with her!

Courtney was wonderful with our pug, cat and home! We were away for 18 days and came back to everything the way we left it. She even took a crash course on how to care for a pool and kept it crystal clear the entire time. We will absolutely rebook Courtney and recommend her to people.

We recently had Kelsey stay with our 2 senior chihuahua. She was fantastic! Right away you can see that she’s a caring, gentle animal lover and our dogs certainly got the attention they needed. She made sure meds and meals were given on time. She sent us pics throughout the day which was wonderful. If you want to leave your fur babies with someone and take a worry free holiday, Kelsey is your girl. Broc and Tobi miss you ! Carmella
Thank you so much Louise for taking care of our furry babies! Louise made the effort to come visit us before watching the house and cats. She constantly sent updates, pictures and kept in touch to ensure everything was going well. We came home to very happy cats! Thank you! ☺️ 🐾
Our family had a wonderful experience with June. Our dog, Koa, can be slightly reactive, and June was so patient and confident with her — she was clearly very happy and enjoyed plenty of walks and adventures while we were away. Our cat also seemed very content and comfortable spending time with her. A few. happy kitty! Coming home to a clean and well-cared-for home was such a nice bonus after our trip. June was reliable, caring, and attentive, and we felt very at ease knowing our pets and home were in good hands. We would absolutely recommend her and wouldn’t hesitate to have her back again when needed.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Cole Harbour maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Cole Harbour walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Cole Harbour choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 75% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
