About: Hi, you call me Ru and I'm a lifelong animal enthusiast with professional experience caring for creatures of all shapes and sizes, from energetic dogs and opinionated cats. I work a very flexible job from home, giving me lots of time to focus on the individualized care of your pet. Experience and Wellbeing: • Even my oldest memories contain an animal of some kind, and I have been fortunate to work several jobs that directly involved animal care. • I am very familiar with dog and cat behavior and temperament, allowing me to adjust routines when they need to play, rest or simply need their space. • I also have experience managing anxiety in foster animals and rescues. • I value each moment with an animal, and strive to spend it with love in a safe and enriching environment. Services: 🚶Walks: Whether you live near a wooded trail or a more urban setting, I will take your dog on a safe, but enriching wander. • Typically range from 1-2 hours based on your dog's energy level. • Sniffing and guided exploration for mental enrichment. • Close supervision to prevent ingestion of nasty plants or trash. 🏡House-sitting and check-ins: I understand that pets feel safest at home, so I'll provide the love and care you shower on your pets when you are needed elsewhere. • Playing with your pet's favorite toys inside or in a yard. • Sniffing games within a owner-preferred room or yard. • Administration of food, water, and medication based on schedules. • Adapted play and enrichment for puppies, seniors, or pets with specialized needs. • Communication: You will receive updates with photos, videos and a brief summary, four times daily: - Morning - Afternoon - Evening - Before bed I work from home with lots of flexibility and I am always willing to work around your schedule to provide great care for your pets. I start my day at 5:00 AM, but my job starts at 9:00 AM, affording me plenty of time to prepare your pet's breakfast, and get ready for an hour or two-hour long play session or walk. During midday, I can work through my phone or laptop. I will be able to step away from my devices frequently to provide potty breaks, shorter play sessions, snacks or a quick check-in. I finish work at 4:00 PM, after which I provide another 1-2 hour long play session or walk before settling in for the night. I provide personalized care based on each pet’s routine and personality, including feeding, walks, enrichment, cleaning, and medication support when needed. Your pets recognize your love, and I will do my best to makes sure that it is never missed. With experience caring for a wide range of animals, I’m comfortable handling different breeds and needs while keeping your home clean, safe, and respected. • Communication: You will receive updates with photos, videos and a brief summary, four times daily: - Morning - Afternoon - Evening - Before bed • I will play extra attention to the temperament and behavior of the pets in my care throughout the visit. • I will monitor your pet for fatigue carefully during walks and play sessions and adjust accordingly. • Your pet will be inspected each time for injury or ticks each time they exit a wooded area.
“Was thrilled to have good communication and lots of pictures of our dogs for our very 1st time leaving them. Laura went above and beyond by cleaning up after many days of rainy, muddy paw prints throughout the house and even washed all the bedding, which was definitely not expected. A nice treat to come home and have one less thing to worry about.”

About: Having professional experience in boarding/ daycare kennels allows me the ability to understand dog behavior and how to handle dogs of all temperaments. As well as pet sitting for family friends for years. Currently enrolled full time at Dalhousie and working part time, but have flexibility to accommodate your needs. This can be discussed further following a meet and greet. I treat the animals as though they were my own. Keeping in mind how I would want my own cat or dog to be treated if they were entrusted to another person's care.
About: I have 8 years of professional experience in dog daycare and boarding facilities working as a dog handler. I am confident with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. As a dog mama of two, I’d love to host pups in my home so they have a home away from home when you are away! I am a full time stay at home mom to a toddler. My availability is very flexible and I am happy to accommodate various scheduling needs! I have a fully fenced in, large back yard for your dog to roam and explore. Happy to house dogs as if they’re at home, they are able to sleep in my room with me, or if you’re more comfortable, my spare room or living area. I encourage those who use crates at home to bring the crate with you for the most familiar and comfortable stay possible.
“Ashlyn did in-house sitting for our dog Rain and was awesome! Rain is a rescue who came with a lot of quirks but Ashlyn took it all in stride and gave me reassurance while I was away. I look forward to having her come back!”
About: I loved my partners dog Luke. I dotted on him. He was finally able to jump up on a piece of furniture when I entered the picture! I’m retired and have plenty of time for weekday and weekend care! Numerous cats would be fine as I had 5 cats at one time I would care for cats exactly however the pet owner wishes. My cats all had the best of care. I learned how to keep them apart if they didn’t get along.
“We have used Holly several times now for house sitting and couldn’t be happier with her service! She genuinely cares for our fur babies and respects our home whenever she stays. She is always sure to send a daily update with some photos from the day or weekend! We will certainly have Holly to care for our pets again.”

About: Safety is my love language: safety that comes from structure, structure that is backed by deep philosophy and experience. Whether we're talking about emotional safety (a dog feeling secure and confident to interact with the outside world), or safety for other humans and other dogs, safety for me as a pet professional, and safety for the owners in the habits I'm encouraging the dog to inhabit, my service is based on safety above all because without safety none of us can thrive. I'm busy building a farm care business that expands across Canada. All my waking hours and some sleeping hours too are spent obsessing about pet care, as dogs form the center of this pet care philosophy. Continuing onwards in a concentric circle, cats are followed by other farm animals. When it comes to dogs, i work with treats to encourage a strong place command. Once the place command is clear, i know that any time the pup is off his cushion, it is time for a walk.
“Elyas did a superb job in looking after my dog and the house! He was diligent about giving Spencer his meds, he played with him and just gave him lots of attention. My house was spotless when I returned. Elyas went above and beyond with looking after everything and I would hire him again in a heartbeat!”

About: I have a passion for pets and years of experience - I've had my own cats, dogs, and rodents, and done a lot of petsitting, including long-term sits abroad. I'm currently accepting longer term (2+ weeks) sits in Halifax. I'll take care of your pet and home as if they were my own. I'm new to Rover so don't have reviews here yet, but am happy to share my profile on Trusted Housesitters and AirBnb and to provide references. Je parle français aussi! Y un poco de español :) I work from home so will be there most of the day to give your pets the company, attention, and care they deserve. I can accept pets for boarding who are able to be on their own or rest quietly while I am in online meetings. My schedule is variable and I can schedule walks/drop ins/care in morning, midday, or evening hours. I have a small backyard and enjoy going to for walks to the nearby parks and trails. I can board small sized dogs in my home.
“Hannah was wonderful in guiding us through our first Rover experience. We were nervous leaving our two dogs with someone other than family or close friends for the first time and Hannah reassured us every step of the way. She took the best care of our girls and updated us everyday with pictures. It is very apparent Hannah cares for the animals she looks after. She was professional and respectful of our home. We would not hesitate to book Hannah for our future dog sitting needs.”

“Christina was great, she left the house better than she found it and was very conscientious and responsive to messages. We had just the right amount of updates and she went above and beyond for the animals, treating them like her own family and loving on them. One of our dogs is particularly reactive and hard to deal with but she was a pro at handling him and keeping everyone happy, fed, cleaned and exercised. It was a relief not having to worry during our time away and we will definitely be booking again for the next trip!”

“Lyne is a wonderful person and an incredible dog sitter. I would highly recommend her to care for your dogs. My dogs love her and I feel relaxed knowing she is giving them such love and care when I have to be away from them.”

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Truro maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Truro walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Truro choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
