“Danielle was simply amazing. We received tons of photos and updates throughout the week. She quickly communicated when she had questions and was quick to implement any suggestions. Our girl is so shy and has some trouble on day one adjusting to new sitters- Danielle was so patient and kind with our girl and she was back to her silly, snuggly and fun self in no time! We hope to rebook in the future!”

“Rosey did an awesome job housesitting our three large, energetic dogs for five days. She has sat for us in the past, and we have always had great experiences. Our dogs love her!”

“We couldn't have asked for a better pet sitter! Kristen was absolutely amazing—so thoughtful and genuinely caring with both our dog and cat. She kept us updated with photos and sweet check-ins, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Not only did our pets clearly adore her, but she also left our home even cleaner than we left it. We are grateful to find someone so responsible, loving, and attentive. We recommend her without hesitation and would absolutely book with her again!”

“We have used Kris several times for both overnight stays and dog walks. She is as reliable as they come, and we know our pup and home are always in great hands when we’re away. Highly recommend!”

“Always on time and ready to play! Nathan treats our active fur babies as his own! We never have to worry when Nathan is on the job! He is fine juggling 2 pups with different temperament’s/ keeping them safe and happy!”

“Bryn was great! My pets can both be shy and slow to warm up to people, and they loved her! Both Piper and Beckett ended up snuggling with her while she stayed with them. I appreciated that she stayed overnight with them, left my apartment as clean as it was when she arrived, and even took my trash out for me. Thanks, Bryn!”

“Anna was great and our puppy Dot loves her! Anna followed our instructions we left for Dot and was very attentive. She read into Dots needs very well. We are very grateful to have Anna in our lives and have already rebooked with her! Thank you Anna!”

“Dakota did an amazing job taking care of our dog for the entire weekend! Our dog has lots of medication and diet needs, and Dakota handled that with no issues! We returned to a very happy pup!”
“Maddie was absolutely awesome! She was super quick to respond and sent us lots of pics while we were away. She also left our house in great condition and Winnie was so happy when we got back! We definitely recommend her! 😊”

“Definitely all 5 stars for Lissette! She stayed in our home with our two dogs for a few days, and we could not have been happier. Lissette is a delight. Conscientious, enthusiastic, and showed lots of love to our pets. She went above and beyond with lots of walks in the neighborhood, lots of playtime in the backyard, and caring for our home. Great communication, too. A real superstar!”

About: I grew up on a farm, I am familiar with caring for anything from a lizard to a horse. I have been a trusted pet sitter and walker for a few families for years. I have volunteered at vet clinics since I was in high school and am versed in dog CPR and have a background in dog training. I truly love all animals they have my heart and utmost care always. Any animal in my care will be left in luxury. As a pet owner myself I understand the need to know your loved one is left in good hands. I am flexible, so please feel free to reach out with any questions! I am a personal trainer in the Charlottesville area and have a flexible schedule. This is perfect for allowing me to take breaks even throughout a normal work day to take ample care of your fur babies. It is your fur baby so I will follow whatever routine you guys have set for your household. My goal is to make them feel like they are on vacation too!
“We were a little nervous about leaving our pup with anyone, but Mackenzie was great. She sent us pictures every day and checked in about any questions that came up. Her questions showed her experience with dogs, and really put us at ease. Our pup took to her, and seemed to enjoy having her around. We will certainly use her again.”

About: I grew up with large dogs and cats and have a beloved rescue cat now. As a young person, I housesat, babysat, and took care of animals throughout my neighborhood and my parents’ friend group. I am used to taking care of my family’s dogs when they are out of town. All I need is an introduction and instructions. I am a kind, mature, and responsible person -- a homeowner myself -- and would be happy to take extra care with simple tasks (like collecting mail and watering plants) while I’m checking on your animals. Let me know how I can help and provide peace of mind while you are away! I am currently working part-time from home and finishing a graduate program at UVA so I have a flexible schedule. I prefer early morning and evening checkins/walks (in case I do need to go into work). I can be available to stay overnight if needed. In my client's home, I really want to provide as much continuity as possible. That means emotionally supporting and reassuring your animals and maintaining their schedules and habits with food and medication. It also means fun, a chance for your companions to experience a new friendly face in a safe environment. In my home: My cat is a rescue that came out of a very difficult situation. She is wonderful and we're so proud of how far she has come from the terrified animal we first adopted. I do not feel that she would welcome other animals into our home at this time, however.
“If you love your pets then you will request Cate - she’s like the fun and generous aunt coming over and whenever we get home from being away the pets are disappointed to see us.”

About: I grew up with pets and have been dog and cat sitting since middle school for friends, family, and neighbors. In high school, my mom started doing Rover, and I loved coming home after school to a new friendly face every day! I’m happy to go on walks, cuddle on the couch, play in the yard, or simply hang out—whatever makes your pet happiest. I work full-time, but I’m happy to carve out time before work, during my lunch break, or promptly at 5 p.m. to give your pet some love and attention. If you work long hours, need a midday break for your pet, or need help on evenings or weekends, I’m flexible and happy to work around your schedule! I’m happy to follow any guidelines you provide to keep your pet comfortable and on their normal routine. I can accommodate walks of any length, carefully follow feeding and medication instructions, and pay close attention to your pet’s individual needs, quirks, and preferences. My goal is to make sure your pet feels safe, happy, and well cared for while you’re away!
“Tessa was amazing! Came to our house for a meet and greet before we left on our trip, checked in regularly with texts/pictures and left the house probably cleaner than it was when we left. We will definitely ask her to sit again in the future!!!”

The median cost per night for house sitting in Berkeley is $50
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Berkeley
I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Danielle. She was absolutely incredible from beginning to end, and I genuinely don’t think we could have found a better person to care for our pets. I was extremely anxious about leaving them, especially because our dog, Merlin, can be anxious when we’re away and requires a little more patience, attention, and understanding than the average dog. Our cats also have their own personalities, routines, and anxieties, so trusting someone else with all three of them was a really big deal for me. Danielle completely put my mind at ease. She followed every single care instruction to a tee and was so attentive to all of the little details that matter to us. More importantly, though, she treated our animals with so much genuine love, patience, and kindness. She took the time to make Merlin feel comfortable and secure, kept up with his routines, gave him plenty of attention, and handled his anxiety beautifully. She even handled his grooming incredibly well, which was another aspect of his care that meant a lot to us. Merlin is a Samoyed with a lot of fur and grooming him can require patience and a gentle approach, and Danielle did an amazing job making sure he was comfortable while still taking such great care of his coat. I was genuinely impressed by how confidently and patiently she handled him. She was equally wonderful with our cats and allowed them to warm up to her at their own pace while making sure they felt safe, loved, and cared for. Seeing how comfortable they became with her was incredibly reassuring. Danielle also went above and beyond when it came to communication. She sent us frequent updates and so many wonderful photos, told us how everyone was doing, and gave me an incredible amount of reassurance throughout the entire time we were away. She seemed to understand without me even having to explain just how hard it was for me to leave them, and her updates allowed me to actually relax and enjoy our trip because I knew our babies were in such capable and loving hands. What stood out most was that this never felt like someone simply “watching our pets.” Danielle genuinely cared about them. You can tell when someone is just completing a list of instructions versus when someone is truly invested in making your animals feel happy, comfortable, and loved, and Danielle was absolutely the latter. The amount of care and compassion she showed them meant more to us than I can adequately put into words. We came home to happy, well-cared-for pets and a home that had been treated with the utmost respect. Knowing that Merlin and the cats had someone so loving and dependable with them while we were gone was priceless. If you are an anxious pet parent, have pets with specific routines or needs, or simply want someone you can completely trust with the animals you consider family, I cannot recommend Danielle highly enough. She exceeded every expectation we had. We are beyond grateful for everything she did for us and our fur babies, and we would trust her with them again in a heartbeat. She is truly an absolute gem, and anyone would be incredibly lucky to have her caring for their pets. We definitely look forward to having her stay again❤️

Bryn was great! My pets can both be shy and slow to warm up to people, and they loved her! Both Piper and Beckett ended up snuggling with her while she stayed with them. I appreciated that she stayed overnight with them, left my apartment as clean as it was when she arrived, and even took my trash out for me. Thanks, Bryn!

Maggie was amazing! We came home to a happy, well fed, well walked dog! She did housesitting and not only took great care of our dog she also watered the plants, took trash out for collection and left the house wonderfully clean. She was communicative, sent updates and pictures and we felt comfortable with her at our house and dog while we were abroad for 10 days. Would highly recommend her!!

Olin was so attentive to our dogs’ needs over the week he spent house sitting for us. He was responsible, reliable, communicative and thorough. We came home to happy, well-cared for pups and a clean house. We’ll absolutely be reaching out to him for future pet sitting needs!

Jack is a great dog and house sitter. He’s trustworthy and reliable. We feel so comfortable leaving our dogs and home in his care. He goes above and beyond every time. He even went out of his way to make sure some plants in the yard got watering during the recent heatwave. And fixed an issue with our garden sprinkler. The dogs always are relaxed when we get home. Can’t recommend him enough for any dog or home care needs!

Ireland was fantastic! She came over a few days before we left for our long weekend trip to meet us, our pets and walk through things for staying at our house. While we were away she communicated via txt regularly and provided pictures of our dog out on walks : ) We highly recommend Ireland and will absolutely reach out to her again in the future!

Ashley was great! She let me know when she arrived and how Buster greeted her. She kept Buster company for several hours during my longer than usual work day— preventing him from getting too anxious about being alone. You can tell Ashley is a true animal lover as well as being very conscientious and reliable. Will definitely reach out to her again for dog sitting!
Madelyn took great care of both my dogs (3 total) and my home during my absence. She was very responsible and communicative. She kept me informed and sent me daily photos of my pups to let me know that all was well. I very much appreciate her thoughtfulness during my absence... It made my vacation that much more enjoyable because I knew that my sweet dogs and home were in good hands with Madelyn. Thank you, Madelyn, so much!!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Berkeley walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Berkeley maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Berkeley choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
