“Rosey watched my 5 month old pup for a few days and she was a great sitter! She kept me updated throughout the stay and made sure my dog was well taken care of. In addition to the great care, she left the house in great condition! I would highly recommend her and she will be my first choice in the future. Thanks Rosey!”

“Our dogs fell in love with Nathan right from the start. He was great taking them out for walks, feeding them, playing ball with them, and cuddling with them. We will definitely use Nathan again!”

“Bertie and Lissette's family were amazing! They took great care of my puppy and were very responsive and easy to communicate with. I will definitely contact them again the next time I am in Charlottesville.”

“Tessa was awesome! Our pets had a great time, she was consistent with communication and left us completely unburdened regarding our furry family while on vacation! Would 1000% recommend Tessa to anyone in need of a hand with your pets!”

“Out of towner: Abby was amazing at watching our dog for the first time as we came to town for an event. She was so easy to communicate with and took extra great care of our dog for the night. Wish we lived closer so we could use her again!”

“Dakota was wonderful with our dogs and cat. Very responsive, great communicator, sent pics to me daily!! Didn’t have a worry at all while I was away!! Fabulous! Highly recommend.”

“When we read Danielle's profile we knew she was the perfect match for our older dog. Danielle was always quick to reply, great with our dog, sent lots of pictures throughout, and kept us informed about how our dog was doing. We also appreciated that Danielle was willing to schedule some meet ups before our booking to get to know our dog, and let our dog get to know her. We booked Danielle to stay overnight, and our house was exactly as we left it. We cannot say enough good things about Danielle, except that we will definitely book her again in the future”

“Ireland was fantastic and we would highly recommend her! She was a great communicator throughout our trip, took excellent care of our pup, and was very respectful of our home. We came back to a happy, tired dog and a house that was just as clean as when we left. We truly appreciated her professionalism and care.”

“Anne took great care of our two dogs and two guinea pigs during our two-week trip. We felt very comfortable having her house-sitting and she was great about keeping the dogs' routines going on as normal. She was very responsible and was friendly and engaging with our pets. We were very happy to have her here at our house for our pets.”

“Mackenzie is super helpful and responsible for our puppy while we were away for a music festival. In addition to being a great caretaker of our dog, she is easy to communicate with and did a good job providing updates about our puppy. It is our first time using Rover and we are glad it worked out. So thank you so much Mackenzie and we would definitely recommend her to anyone that needs good care for their dogs.”

About: I have a large family dog that I have been responsible for since I was about 10 years old. She has since gotten older so I have experience with a senior dog and giving any sorts of medication (and the peanut butter necessary to get her to take it). I am no stranger to having to clean up any accidents in the house so that is a non-issue for me. I am also open to taking care of other animals like rodents or turtles or other cage creatures. I am a true and passionate animal lover! My schedule is very flexible at the moment. I am happy to give as much or little time needed for the pets. I can figure out any scheduling and details necessary with clients. I am never loud coming into a home. I always let the pets come to me unless they are hiding on purpose. I take care instructions very seriously and will follow everything exactly and will reach out if I have questions about the best way I can care for your fur friend.

“Ashley was great! She let me know when she arrived and how Buster greeted her. She kept Buster company for several hours during my longer than usual work day— preventing him from getting too anxious about being alone. You can tell Ashley is a true animal lover as well as being very conscientious and reliable. Will definitely reach out to her again for dog sitting!”
“Genesis was wonderful! Kept us updated and sent lots of pictures. She stayed at our house for two nights and the place is spotless. Benny loved her!”

“We have used Kris several times for both overnight stays and dog walks. She is as reliable as they come, and we know our pup and home are always in great hands when we’re away. Highly recommend!”

I know how important it is to leave your furry baby with someone who will treat them as well as you do. My job is to do just that! I currently work remote with very flexible work day hours. I am a graduate student at UVA with very flexible summer hours. I am happy to spend the day with your pet, a few check ins, a good walk, or whatever else you and your pet may need! I respect you and your pets space! Its very important to me to do what makes you both happy and most comfortable during my time with you. Please do not hesitate to ask for anything or share any information or instructions which would help you feel at ease
About: I have taken care of cats and dogs for my whole life. I started my professional animal care working as a farmhand, caring for horses dogs and cats from a young age. I have been a veterinary assistant for 4+ years and am comfortable medicating our furry friends. I've previously trained a deaf puppy for a neighbor. By the end of our time working together the dog had confidently learned sit, lie down, rollover and fetch via hand cues. I'm happy to discuss my availability with you to see if I could potentially be a good fit for your situation. My work schedule is Tuesday - Saturday. I enjoy spending time with the animals I care for. I will make sure any medication are given as prescribed, play with them, brush them as needed or requested. I will contact you if there is any concerns for your fur baby. I am happy to send pictures to you while you're away if that is desired.

“Dawn Star took wonderful care of my two dogs while my family and I were out of town for a long weekend. I came back home to happy dogs and a well cared for home. This was my first experience with a house sitter and found my dogs to be much more relaxed at the end of the stay compared to when they board at a facility. One of my dogs is very high energy, and the other is more reserved. Dawn Star handled their particular dynamics without issues. She also paid attention to my care/ instruction sheet and followed it to a T. I’m very happy with this experience and would hire Dawn Star again.”

“Definitely one of my favorite pet sitters that I have worked with since using Rover. Communicated really well throughout the stay. I got lots of picture updates. With the weather changing, he had no issue putting both dogs in sweaters. I felt so confident that they were receiving the best care possible.”

Jack is a great dog and house sitter. He’s trustworthy and reliable. We feel so comfortable leaving our dogs and home in his care. He goes above and beyond every time. He even went out of his way to make sure some plants in the yard got watering during the recent heatwave. And fixed an issue with our garden sprinkler. The dogs always are relaxed when we get home. Can’t recommend him enough for any dog or home care needs!

Ireland was fantastic! She came over a few days before we left for our long weekend trip to meet us, our pets and walk through things for staying at our house. While we were away she communicated via txt regularly and provided pictures of our dog out on walks : ) We highly recommend Ireland and will absolutely reach out to her again in the future!

Ashley was great! She let me know when she arrived and how Buster greeted her. She kept Buster company for several hours during my longer than usual work day— preventing him from getting too anxious about being alone. You can tell Ashley is a true animal lover as well as being very conscientious and reliable. Will definitely reach out to her again for dog sitting!
With Hennessey I had every confidence my kitties and home were in good hands -- and I relaxed and had a great trip. Hennessey communicates very well, asks good questions, and seems to genuinely enjoy the little ones. During her stay she let me know when there was a minor kitty health concern. I came home to a beautifully clean house --- really helpful with jet lag. I would be happy to have her back another time.

Rachael is amazing! She was really thoughtful about knowing each of our pets (1.5 year old dog and 4 year old cat) personalities and taking such good care of them. Rachael was incredible about playing with them and having fun. She was also extremely thoughtful about the care of our home and tending to our pets routines and helping them feel at ease while we were away. We are so grateful for her!

FAQs for House Sitting - Commonwealth
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Commonwealth on Rover is $47.7 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 394 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Commonwealth. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Commonwealth walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Commonwealth maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Commonwealth choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
