“Rosey is a conscientious and kind sitter who always makes sure your pets are well tended to — and that you feel like you can relax and have a good time!! The last time Rosey stayed at our house our dog gave her a little trouble by barking outside late at night. She handled it so well and she knew I felt terrible and even left me a cupcake so I wouldn’t feel so guilty, which is more than I could’ve possibly asked for. I highly recommend her for any pet sitting needs.”

“Kailyn was so professional and communicative. She takes her job seriously and it shows. My babies were healthy and happy when I returned from my trip, and that’s everything! I came home to my house in order, and a darling personal note from her with little photos of my dogs attached. Best experience I’ve had with a Rover sitter. Peace of mind is something you can’t put a price on!”

“We were getting married and needed someone who we could rely on as we wouldn't have cell service all weekend. Nathan did all that and brought the dogs for a photo shoot on the big day. We both appreciated having someone who we could trust with our two dogs!”

“Out of towner: Abby was amazing at watching our dog for the first time as we came to town for an event. She was so easy to communicate with and took extra great care of our dog for the night. Wish we lived closer so we could use her again!”

“Lissette provided both dogsitting and housesitting services for us. She was very caring and affectionate with our two small dogs. One of our dogs, from a rescue, is very suspicious of newcomers, but she became comfortable with Lissette quickly. While we were away, Lissette provided frequent updates, including many photos and videos. We would not hesitate to ask Lissette to take care of house and of our pups again -- the pups would probably be very happy to see her, their new friend.”

“We are very comfortable with Tessa. She took care of our elderly dog including two daily medications. We got updates and pictures and our dog was in good spirits when we returned. We have already booked our next appointment with her, so we're very happy with the care our dog received.”

“Dakota was a wonderful sitter! Dakota came for a meet and greet a few days beforehand, and Wes was immediately relaxed. You can tell how much Dakota cares about taking care of your dog and their individual needs. We got several photos and updates throughout the time Dakota was watching Wes, which really put us at ease. We would absolutely recommend Dakota, and would be happy to have Dakota watch We anytime!”

About: I have a large family dog that I have been responsible for since I was about 10 years old. She has since gotten older so I have experience with a senior dog and giving any sorts of medication (and the peanut butter necessary to get her to take it). I am no stranger to having to clean up any accidents in the house so that is a non-issue for me. I am also open to taking care of other animals like rodents or turtles or other cage creatures. I am a true and passionate animal lover! My schedule is very flexible at the moment. I am happy to give as much or little time needed for the pets. I can figure out any scheduling and details necessary with clients. I am never loud coming into a home. I always let the pets come to me unless they are hiding on purpose. I take care instructions very seriously and will follow everything exactly and will reach out if I have questions about the best way I can care for your fur friend.
“Danielle took excellent care of our pup. She is a true dog lover who seems to really enjoy her work! We appreciated her regularly updates complete with pictures.”

“Ireland was fantastic! She came over a few days before we left for our long weekend trip to meet us, our pets and walk through things for staying at our house. While we were away she communicated via txt regularly and provided pictures of our dog out on walks : ) We highly recommend Ireland and will absolutely reach out to her again in the future!”

“We were a little nervous about leaving our pup with anyone, but Mackenzie was great. She sent us pictures every day and checked in about any questions that came up. Her questions showed her experience with dogs, and really put us at ease. Our pup took to her, and seemed to enjoy having her around. We will certainly use her again.”

“Ashley was great! She let me know when she arrived and how Buster greeted her. She kept Buster company for several hours during my longer than usual work day— preventing him from getting too anxious about being alone. You can tell Ashley is a true animal lover as well as being very conscientious and reliable. Will definitely reach out to her again for dog sitting!”

“Anne took great care of our two dogs and two guinea pigs during our two-week trip. We felt very comfortable having her house-sitting and she was great about keeping the dogs' routines going on as normal. She was very responsible and was friendly and engaging with our pets. We were very happy to have her here at our house for our pets.”

“Genesis was wonderful! Kept us updated and sent lots of pictures. She stayed at our house for two nights and the place is spotless. Benny loved her!”

“Dieira has been amazing and our Izzy just adores her, she has stayed in our home do 2 plus weeks with no issues and checked in with sweet pictures regularly. We will definitely use her services again ☺️”

“We have used Kris several times for both overnight stays and dog walks. She is as reliable as they come, and we know our pup and home are always in great hands when we’re away. Highly recommend!”

“Definitely one of my favorite pet sitters that I have worked with since using Rover. Communicated really well throughout the stay. I got lots of picture updates. With the weather changing, he had no issue putting both dogs in sweaters. I felt so confident that they were receiving the best care possible.”

About: Make sure you have a sitter that loves your pet as much as you do! I am a devoted animal lover and I have 8 years of pet sitting experience (not including my own dogs/cats/guinea pigs/ect!). I have experience with a wide age range of dogs (and other furry friends!) including puppies to senior dogs, and have done pet sitting gigs ranging from a weekend, a week, or even a month if needed! I know how important it is to leave your furry baby with someone who will treat them as well as you do. My job is to do just that! I currently work remote with very flexible work day hours. I am a graduate student at UVA with very flexible summer hours. I am happy to spend the day with your pet, a few check ins, a good walk, or whatever else you and your pet may need! I respect you and your pets space! Its very important to me to do what makes you both happy and most comfortable during my time with you. Please do not hesitate to ask for anything or share any information or instructions which would help you feel at ease

“Star is fantastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great communication, kind care for our dog that is used to a lot of personal attention, great house care while we were away as well. Thanks!”

“Madelyn did a fantastic job taking care of my two dogs, two cats, and house during a recent overnight trip, and I can recommend her without reservation. It was my first time using Rover so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but Madelyn made it super easy. She is responsible, enthusiastic, and communicative, and it's clear she loves animals. And judging from the pics she sent, the animals had a wonderful time!”

Jack is a great dog and house sitter. He’s trustworthy and reliable. We feel so comfortable leaving our dogs and home in his care. He goes above and beyond every time. He even went out of his way to make sure some plants in the yard got watering during the recent heatwave. And fixed an issue with our garden sprinkler. The dogs always are relaxed when we get home. Can’t recommend him enough for any dog or home care needs!

Jen takes such good care of our dogs and guinea pigs and spoils them rotten! They get so many great treats from her, they get upset when we get back and don't give them as many! She takes great care of the house and leaves everything so clean and neat. I highly recommend her!

FAQs for House Sitting - Rio
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Rio on Rover is $35.52 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 386 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Rio. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Rio walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Rio maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Rio choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Rio. On Rover:
- 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
