“Ed was fantastic! Super communicative and easy to chat with! While our kitten was a ghost for him most the time (as expected) he did assist with feeding our fish and brought in a small package! Super great experience with Ed! We will be sure to book him in the future! Maybe then our kitten will interact more with him!”
“Abigail is an excellent pet sitter and I strongly recommend her. I felt very comfortable with Abigail coming into my home to care for my cat. She is a kind hearted and caring person who genuinely loves pets!”

“Basil was awesome with our two kitties! Felt very good that our cats were well cared for. Gave medicine to one of our cats. Responsive and helpful and even stopped by to meet them for the first time. Highly recommend Basil.”

“She was WONDERFUL! My pup was being stubborn and Karlee was so kind about it. She respected boundaries while still doing what she could to keep him happy. She was SO communicative and patient. I appreciate you!!!”

“We’ve never seen our cats take to a sitter the way they have to Rhiana! They look so happy and relaxed that we can enjoy a little vacation without worrying about them. Rhiana the cat whisperer?!”

“Theo had a great weekend! I really appreciated the care, attention, and time spent with him. She kept me updated, made sure he got plenty of walks and playtime, and followed his routine with feeding and everything else. I came home to a happy, well-cared-for Theo, which is always the best feeling. I would definitely recommend her and would be happy to have her watch Theo again!”

“Dakota met us and our GS before we left town. We were very pleased and comfortable leaving our pet under his care. He didn't just drop in to feed and walk him, he also played with him. We will never use boarding. We will differently use Dakota again when needed.”

About: I’ve always had animals in my younger life from cats to dogs, and even though I only have a cat I continue to love dogs. My current housing situation allows me to share dog sitting and caring of his clients dogs (ages 9 months to 14 years) for the last ten years. Since then I have asked my neighbors for tending to the needs of their dogs be it from a 5 mile walk on and off leash to a 100 yard potty break in addition to giving medications. I’m currently working part time three days a week and an occasional Saturday, so I have the time to care and interact for your furry friend. I live in a neighborhood with easy access to the Rivanna trails and a road trip access to a farm with woods in Earlysville for running in fields. I also have a very tolerant cat who actually enjoys dogs staying with me because she’s learned that visiting dogs often get a treat she’s earned one too. My house has hardwood floors on the first floor throughout access to the carpeted lower level is through a door. The dog would have free range of the house while we were at home and unless he/she is accustomed to be crated.

About: I have taken care of dogs and cats and rabbits for years. I also have experience as a pet owner to a cat and grew up with dogs and cats and various rabbits and farm animals my entire life. My goal is to ease your pets anxiety when their person is not there! I will work to make sure your pet has what they need and the love they deserve! I work 3 days a week but am off by 5:00 and am super flexible. I am free on weekends and am happy to stay with the animals when I’m not at work! I also have the flexibility to leave during lunch during my work hours. I am very in tune with your pets needs and will make sure they always have fresh water and food at correct times. I’m happy to send as many updates as you need, and as many pictures! I am very flexible of what is required for you and your animals needs! I love to walk around the neighborhood and get them exercise as well as spending time in their safe environment. I’m happy to play fetch or sit with them and just give cuddles.
About: Hi! I’m a lifelong pet person who grew up with a whole host of cats and dogs. I love all pets but my favorites are big dogs and old cats — I have a 21 year old cat and a French Mastiff back home. My background as a teacher, nanny, house manager, and personal assistant means I’m reliable, organized, and great at keeping routines smooth. I’m happy to share references and I love meet & greets to make sure it’s a perfect fit. Can’t wait to meet you and your furry family! My law school classes start in the late morning and are spread throughout the day, which gives me flexibility for morning visits, midday check-ins, and walks. For clients in Charlottesville, I’m able to come back to the home between classes, so pets aren’t left alone for long stretches. When I care for pets in your home, I focus on keeping them comfortable, relaxed, and never feeling alone. I spend time with them in common spaces so they can get used to me. If they’re comfortable, I let pets sleep in my room at night so they don’t feel lonely or miss their owners too much. Safety is a top priority for me—I never take dogs outside a fenced yard without a leash, even if they’re well trained, and I’m very careful with doors and entryways (I know all the kitty-proof tricks to prevent curious cats from sneaking out). I enjoy playing with pets who are able, I’m very clean and tidy, quick to handle messes, and I treat your home with care. I also send regular updates and photos so you can relax while you’re away.
About: I’ve always loved animals and have experience caring for a wide variety of pets, including dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, hermit crabs, and more. As a pet owner myself, I understand how important it is to feel confident and comfortable leaving your pets in someone else’s care. I’m responsible, detail-oriented, and attentive to each pet’s individual needs and routine. I’d love the opportunity to get to know you and your pets and provide them with the same care and attention I’d want for my own. I work as a swim coach currently so I’m looking for supplemental work, but I am decently flexible and can make time multiple times throughout the day to care for your animals! I am very responsible and understand that your pet is like an extension of family. I have two cats of my own & they are like my children. I pride myself in creating a safe, loving, & playful environment for your pet!

“Bryn was absolutely amazing! She took such good care of my cats, which is not the easiest task since one needs medications. It was a last minute ask and she was available, and jumped in with no hesitation. I honestly am glad that my other sitter canceled because I got to have the best care from Bryn! My only concern is that my cats will miss her to much.”

“Maddie was awesome!! Communication was seamless and timely. She followed all directions left for my puppy and sent great pictures and updates! She was understanding and followed through on extra safeguards for my ornery puppy. Highly recommend 😊”

About: My family had labradors from the time I was an infant. All of ours were raised as puppies, well behaved and successfully potty trained. I also had a French bulldog raised from a puppy as an adult. In recent years I have learned love cats through my wife, and we now have 4 lovely adult indoor cats who we rescued all as kittens. I work from home 9-5 Monday through Friday. I can be flexible for mid-day visits, although mornings and afternoons/evenings are more reliable. I am generally available at all times of day on weekends. I have my own transportation and I’m happy to accommodate your needs. My own pets mean the world to me, I strive to be the person they see me as. I treat all animals the same way: with kindness, respect, and love, especially for rescues who may not have had the easiest lives. I have a white collar job where I’m expected to have high professionalism and customer service standards, and I bring that ethos to my work with animals as well.
About: I don’t have professional experience as a pet sitter, but I have experience caring for dogs belonging to family members. I’m responsible, patient, and comfortable following each dog’s routine and needs. I truly enjoy spending time with dogs and would treat every pet with the same care and attention I would give my own I have a flexible schedule and am available Monday through Saturday from 6 AM to 3 PM. Pet care fits well into my daily routine, and I’m able to provide reliable walks and drop-in visits during those hours. I enjoy spending time with animals and look forward to making pet care a regular part of my week. I care for each pet with patience, kindness, and attention to their individual needs. During walks, I make sure dogs are safe, comfortable, and get the exercise they need. During drop-in visits, I can provide fresh water, food if needed, potty breaks, playtime, and plenty of attention. I will follow the pet’s usual routine and any instructions provided by the owner, and I’ll keep you updated during each visit.

“Kyle and Meagan were fantastic! They took Luna to the park and wore her out for a drop by visit! They sent plenty of photos which I loved! It was nice to know Luna was taken care of while I was at work and before my boyfriend got home. Thank you so much!”

“Ella was absolutely amazing with my dog Chewbacca over the weekend! She treated my little boy with so much love, care, and respect the entire time. It gave me such peace of mind knowing he was in such great hands. Chewbacca was so happy and comfortable with her, and you can truly tell she genuinely loves animals. Communication was great, she was very kind, attentive, and went above and beyond. I will 100% be booking with her again in the future. Highly recommend Ella to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and caring to watch their pets!”

“Miranda watched our kitty for a week. Everything was perfect when we got home, she even brought all of our mail in for us!! I knew she was perfect the moment I met her. She was sweet & respectful and I knew our kitty was in good hands! She’s our go-to from now on..”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Berkeley
Jordana has been phenomenal with our boy Elroy. She is attentive to details and always gives us updates on how the visit went. She is very communicative and has worked with us many times on last minute changes and needs which we greatly appreciate. Your fur baby will be well taken care of and loved in her care.

Rhiana is such a professional sitter and caretaker that I have nothing to worry every time I travel. She doesn't miss a detail and is agile in unforeseen circumstances like when my cats can't be found because of cleaners or lawnmowers. She's one of the best pet sitters I've found on Rover.

Carolyn was absolutely fantastic. Not only did she take excellent care of our kitties during the original planned sit while we were on vacation, but agreed to extend the sit twice when our travel plans unexpectedly changed and we were stranded away from home for an additional 5 days. She was quick to respond to all of my anxious cat-mom questions about how my boys were doing, sent great pictures at every visit, and took care of our boys like they were her own. We were so incredibly grateful to have booked with her during this trip, and it meant the world to have one piece of our unexpected travel delays be taken care of.

Theo had a great weekend! I really appreciated the care, attention, and time spent with him. She kept me updated, made sure he got plenty of walks and playtime, and followed his routine with feeding and everything else. I came home to a happy, well-cared-for Theo, which is always the best feeling. I would definitely recommend her and would be happy to have her watch Theo again!

Katherine did an AMAZING job taking care of our old kitty Puszkin when we were away for the weekend. She gave him medicine twice a day with no issues, followed all our instructions very thoroughly and provided lots of attention, pets, cuddles and scritches 😻 She sent very detailed messages to keep us updated on Puszkin’s wellbeing and shared lots of great pictures and videos. Highly recommend Katherine and I’m sure we will reach out to her again at some point!!

You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:

- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.
