“Jordana was so flexible with a short-notice request and with setting up time to meet our dog Magz. She seemed very experienced in dealing with our dog's reactivity to certain triggers and was great with sticking to her routine. Thank you Jordana!”

“Danielle was extremely responsive, flexible, and caring for our last minute request. Our cat is pretty shy so it was great to see her warm up and feel safe with Danielle. Would book again!”

“My dog had such a great time with Bertie while I was on vacation, she probably didn’t even notice I was gone. Seeing the pictures of their day together made me happy and I will rebook in the future!”

“Riley was fantastic with my puppy, Pearl! Pearl is always excited to see her and Riley goes above and beyond to help with paying and reinforcing good training habits, I highly recommend her!”

About: I've had dogs my whole life and started dog-sitting for my neighbors at 9 years old. I love all animals, but dogs have a very special place in my heart. I've worked with dogs of all ages, and over the summer, I cared for a puppy full-time for the family I nanny for. I am very comfortable with big dogs and have lots of experience with large breeds, including Corsos and English Mastiffs. I hope I can make your time away from your pets a little bit easier and less stressful! I am a full-time student at the University of Virginia (with a car), so I have classes during the weekdays; however, I do have many breaks and a few days each week without classes, so I have a lot of room for coming by to check in and help out in any way I can. What I do to keep the animals and myself safe really depends on the situation. When I walk, I always carry pepper spray, and I have collars with lights on them in case I am ever walking a dog in low visibility. The important thing to me is making sure I follow any specific requests from the owners!

About: I have grown up with different ages of dogs and helped out at shelters throughout my life. I am able to feed, do medications if needed, baths and walks. please message me for availability. I would love for you to get to know me and work out a schedule that works. so happy to meet you! I am renting at a place that does not allow animals in this space/home but I can do drop in and walks as needed.

About: I’ve lived with a dog my entire life, I am 22 years old and just graduated from WVU and recently moved to Charlottesville. In December of 2022 we rescued a dog that was not great with people but now is anyone’s best friend! I’ve learned how to deal and manage dogs like that and love dogs of all sizes I work 8-4 but Monday-Friday but am more than happy to help any other times before or after work and including most weekends! I do not plan on having dogs at my house, but I am more than happy to come to you and help you in your home!
About: I'm an animal lover, Mom, local business owner, and outdoor enthusiast! I've been surrounded by animals my whole life, and have spent many years fostering, volunteering for rescue organizations and leading dog walks and hikes. When I'm not caring for your pet babies, I'm in the kitchen working as a private chef here in Central, VA! Because I'm self employed with a flexible schedule, your pet won't have to spend long hours alone. I focus on low-stress, individualized attention—no overcrowded group walks or forced interactions. I'm comfortable following strict feeding schedules, giving oral medications, keeping up with active routines, and showing lots of affection, kindness and respect to your animals. Your pet's safety, comfort, and happiness is always my top priority! I'm self employed as a private chef and make my own schedule, so I have the time and flexibility to accommodate your pet needs! The opportunity to spend time with animals and get out of the kitchen into the fresh air is a win-win! I always strictly follow owner instructions and offer a safe, calm, active (when appropriate) and loving space for your pets to find connection while their owners are away.
About: I have 2 dogs of my own that I love with all my heart. I have always had a dog my whole life. I have dog sat 4 other dogs before including overnight stays. My dogs relieve a lot of my stress from a busy day. I also love exercising so long walks or runs with dogs are one of my favorite pass time hobbies. I love dogs with my whole heart and I am very excited for when I can have a dog of my own. For the time being, I would love to help out anyone who needs a dog walker, sitter, etc! I understand busy schedules and not having the energy to walk your dog, so let me be the person to take care of them! I make sure my dogs have all the attention they need! Make sure they know they are loved and I spoil them with toys! I also take them to new places so they aren’t always seeing the same things and get to experience new things and sniff new places!
“Alia has been phenomenal with our dog Tripper. She is reliable, on time, and effective communicator, and best of all, she loves our dog and takes him on great walks! We couldn’t be happier and without hesitation will book her in the future.”

“Ireland did a fantastic job taking care of my cats! Very attentive to their needs and I felt confident leaving them in her care. Would definitely rebook with her!”

“Jamie was absolutely amazing with my old girl! She was incredibly flexible with my crazy schedule, and was very communicative with me. As for my pup, she absolutely adored the time she had with Jamie. All of her rover cards came back with huge smiles her face. Big dogs (like mt pitbull mix) can often be dismissed by people’s fear of them, my Jamie was happy to dive right in. 10/10 recommend.”

About: I grew up in a house full of dogs in Nigeria, more than 20 over the years, and helped raise and train them from the day they were born. I taught basic commands, cared for newborn puppies, and handled everything from playful escape artists to protective mamas. Dogs have been part of my daily life for as long as I can remember. Now I’m a fourth-year at UVA, and since my apartment doesn’t allow pets, Rover lets me keep dogs in my life while giving owners reliable, attentive care. I treat every dog like one of my own because for most of my life, they were. I’m a fourth-year student at UVA with a flexible schedule. I’m available most early evenings, and weekends, and I keep my calendar updated weekly. If there’s a time you need but it’s blocked out, feel free to request anyway; I’m often able to accommodate. I live near Grounds, so I can easily do midday drop-ins and walks. Your home, your rules! I follow your existing routines and safety instructions exactly, keep doors and gates secured, always leash up for walks, and send photo updates every visit so you have total peace of mind
About: My family had labradors from the time I was an infant. All of ours were raised as puppies, well behaved and successfully potty trained. I also had a French bulldog raised from a puppy as an adult. In recent years I have learned love cats through my wife, and we now have 4 lovely adult indoor cats who we rescued all as kittens. I work from home 9-5 Monday through Friday. I can be flexible for mid-day visits, although mornings and afternoons/evenings are more reliable. I am generally available at all times of day on weekends. I have my own transportation and I’m happy to accommodate your needs. My own pets mean the world to me, I strive to be the person they see me as. I treat all animals the same way: with kindness, respect, and love, especially for rescues who may not have had the easiest lives. I have a white collar job where I’m expected to have high professionalism and customer service standards, and I bring that ethos to my work with animals as well.
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Knollwood
Sarah was great with our two cats! She was communicative and truly went above and beyond. She made sure to play with them the entire time she was there and give them her undivided attention. One of my cats has a sensitive stomach and threw up but she cleaned it right up. Would 100% book with her again.

Loved working with Tracy! She was so sweet with my cats and even got my scaredy kitten comfortable enough to come out from under the couch for some pets. This was my first Rover booking and was a little bumpy on my side so I appreciate the open communication throughout the whole process!

Miranda went above and beyond again for us while we were traveling. It was a longer trip this time and she sent updates and pictures every time. She took great care of our home as well. I would highly recommend her and look forward to working with her again soon.
We booked Nadia on short notice when Storm developed kennel cough just before a multi-day trip which unfortunately forced us to cancel her boarding. To complicate matters, our realtor planned a 3-hour open house while we were away. During our meet and greet, Storm was immediately comfortable with her, and we knew she'd be a great fit. With each drop in visit, Nadia sent photos, videos, and updates, and she was great keeping Storm engaged during the open house. I could relax on my trip knowing Storm would have her medications administered, fed, watered, and snuggled with in the comfort of her home. Nadia is a natural!

Theo had a great weekend! I really appreciated the care, attention, and time spent with him. She kept me updated, made sure he got plenty of walks and playtime, and followed his routine with feeding and everything else. I came home to a happy, well-cared-for Theo, which is always the best feeling. I would definitely recommend her and would be happy to have her watch Theo again!

Katherine did an AMAZING job taking care of our old kitty Puszkin when we were away for the weekend. She gave him medicine twice a day with no issues, followed all our instructions very thoroughly and provided lots of attention, pets, cuddles and scritches 😻 She sent very detailed messages to keep us updated on Puszkin’s wellbeing and shared lots of great pictures and videos. Highly recommend Katherine and I’m sure we will reach out to her again at some point!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone.
