Robert and his family looked after my Labrador at very short notice. He was friendly, flexible, great at replying and also brilliant at sending update photos and videos. My dog was well loved and walked twice in 24 hours. More than he gets at home! My boy came home happy 💙 I would 100% recommend and would use Robert again!

Loki seemed really comfortable and happy in Cathy and Stan's company. It's great that Cathy understands big dogs and retrievers' love for dirty water sources! He's been snoozing since I picked him up so a good sign he had a blast! ❤️

I left my precious Taco who is 9 weeks old with Patricia. She was fantastic! I know Taco is a bit of a handful but Patricia was very caring and understanding regarding his puppy stage. I was nervous at first to leave him with a sitter. But she embraced him with loving arms. Whilst I was away she sent me photos and kept me up to date, which was very comforting to see that he was happy and in very capable hands. I loved Patricia's terminology to advise me that Taco had the Zoomies. That made me chuckle as I knew exactly what she meant. She was great I 💯 recommend.

About: I am totally obsessed with my dog, he is my child. I've raised him from a pup, and he's now 2. We have done countless training together - gundog, tricks, cooperative care, and scent detection. Loki is the sweetest little polar bear - I'm used to a dog that likes getting wet and muddy, so that's never a problem. He's well socialised and is a crowd pleaser at his daycare (he goes once a week for a bit of enrichment). I've also looked after friends dogs when they've gone away. Your animals will be in very safe hands - I'll treat them as my own. I also have a crate and play pen Loki doesn't use anymore, so just let me know if this is required for night time. I wake up with Loki between 7-8am. He gets his breakfast kibble either scattered around the garden or in a Kong to start the day off with a bit of excitement. I login for work at 9am, and Loki has free run of the house and garden. Around 12-1 we either jump in the car and head over to somewhere like Donyland Woods, the Wick, Layer, Rowhedge Woods etc, or we'll walk over to our local park. Loki then has his midday snack, or treats on the walk. 5.00 I give Loki his dinner. Around 5.30 (or later if it's too sunny), we head out for our second walk after work, which is a longer one. Then we usually chill, or play some tug of war or other games if he's still energetic. Go to bed around 10ish, and Loki shares the bed with me. I have a fairly big fenced garden. Loki is a 2 year old Goldador and is a very sweet, submissive boy.

About: I’ve been around animals my whole life and have always loved caring for them. I grew up with many cats, and since I was little I’ve helped look after them, including taking in stray cats during my childhood. We also always had family dogs, and I loved spending time with them, playing, and taking them out for walks. In total, my whole family 5 dogs overall, so I’m very comfortable being around different breeds and personalities. I also have personal experience caring for a small tortoise named Frankie, so I’m used to looking after pets with different needs and routines. Animals have always been a big part of my life, and I genuinely enjoy giving them attention, care, and companionship. I’m currently not working, so I have plenty of time to give pets the attention they need. I’m available for dog walks, home visits, boarding, and overnight stays, and I can be flexible to suit your pet’s routine. I’m happy to help with whatever is needed to make sure your pet feels comfortable and well cared for. I live in a small two-bedroom house, and although I don’t have a garden, there is a small nature reserve area just behind my home that’s perfect for dog walks. There’s also a bigger park about a 5 to 10 minute walk away, so there’s plenty of outdoor space and nature nearby for exercise and fresh air. I make sure pets are supervised, comfortable, and cared for in a calm, safe environment.

Jenny looked after our puppy cockapoo (who is very hyper) for a night and done a fantastic job! Sent updates as she knew I was nervous leaving Betsy for the first time and invited us over for a meet and greet before the stay which I loved! When Betsy come home, it’s safe to say she was sulking and wanted to go back and play with little honey (Jenny’s pug). Would recommend to anyone who wants to leave their dog without constantly worrying, will use Jenny moving forward every time!

About: Hi there, we lost our Standard Poodle, Peppa, a year ago and miss her so much, so it would be lovely to look after other dogs and animals. We have many years of experience with boarding, caring for a large number of different dog breeds. I’m 19 and have just finished college and will be caring alongside my mum, Carole. We live with my 16 year old sister and 5 tortoises housed in the garden. Our garden backs onto Friday Wood which is brilliant for dogs. It’s vast and beautiful. Our garden is fully fenced and secured. Dog walks would be suited to your individual dog’s needs. I’ve just completed a Cabin Crew course at Stansted and am now free full time for pet sitting and boarding. My mum, Carole, is also working with me. - we will be around 24/7 for your pet’s supervision. - we can administer medication and offer basic grooming and training. - we can give dogs long walks and however many walks your particular dog/s need. - pets will be able to sleep anywhere they are comfy. - we live with my 16 year old sister. - my house and garden are fully secured.

Karen was thorough in her questions even providing a questionnaire to ensure Rocket had a comfortable stay. We received regular photos and updates and they even took him for some swim time in Mersea! It was such a relief to know he was having a great time while we were away. We would absolutely recommend and thanks again!!

About: I give every dog genuine care and attention as if they were my own. I’m patient, reliable, and focused on creating a safe and loving environment for pets of all ages and personalities. I’m comfortable caring for energetic puppies who need consistency, playtime, and basic training reinforcement, as well as senior dogs who may require extra patience, gentle walks, medication reminders, or special attention to their comfort and routines. I also pay close attention to each dog’s behavior, mood, and needs so owners can feel confident their pets are happy and well cared for while they’re away. I work from home most of the time, which means I have plenty of time to give dogs the attention, care, and companionship they need throughout the day. I’m able to provide regular walks, playtime, feeding, bathroom breaks, and lots of affection without pets being left alone for long periods. I live in a spacious modern first-floor flat in a quiet residential area, which gives dogs a peaceful space to rest and settle in comfortably. Abbey Fields is right on my doorstep, providing plenty of open space for regular walks, exercise, playtime, and fresh air.

About: I just moved out of my mums house where I had a cat and a dog so am used to having animals in the house. Throughout my teens I did dog sitting for a family who had 5 dogs, all different sizes, and 3 cats. I would be in charge of feeding, letting them out, and playing with them/keeping them entertaining whilst the owners were on holidays. I work a full-time Monday-Friday, working from home on Tuesdays and Fridays so available throughout the entire day then. I would be available weekday evenings for boarding, but would prefer to board on weekends when I have free other commitments. I have a cat of my own who is very friendly and loves company. I am also on a second floor flat so no private garden, but I do have access to outdoor spaces. When I’m looking after your pet I will make sure to follow any schedule set so they can feel as comfortable as possible and stick to a routine they may be used to. I am also gentle with animals and not impatient.

They are such loving and caring people, with a beautiful home, a massive garden, and their own friendly dog who made my pup feel right at home. I would absolutely book with them again and encourage anyone else to do the same — your dog will be in the best hands!

About: I provide calm, reliable pet care with a strong focus on routine, gentle handling and individual attention. I’ve owned pets all my life and trained as a groomer, giving me confidence handling both dogs and cats and an understanding of their different needs. My approach is patient and safety-led, helping pets feel settled and cared for in familiar surroundings. I’m fully insured, DBS checked and pet first aid trained, and I’m always happy to arrange a meet & greet before booking. Pet care is my full-time daily routine. I run my licensed dog day care and walking service from our private countryside home, so my days are fully structured around the dogs in my care. Each day includes countryside walks, enrichment, play and calm rest periods, with dogs enjoying a consistent and supervised environment throughout the day. I keep numbers small to ensure every dog receives individual attention, companionship and a relaxed home-from-home experience. Dogs cared for in my home enjoy a calm, structured and fully supervised environment. I care for a small number of compatible dogs at a time to ensure a safe and relaxed experience for everyone. Dogs have access to a secure outdoor area for toileting and fresh air, with walks and exercise provided throughout the day. Depending on each dog’s needs and owner preference, exercise takes place on-lead or in suitable safe locations to ensure comfort and safety at all times. Indoors, dogs have comfortable rest areas, enrichment activities and plenty of individual attention as part of a home-from-home routine. When caring for pets in an owner’s home, I closely follow their established routines to maintain familiarity and minimise stress, ensuring feeding, exercise and companionship are provided exactly as requested.

Lana was, and has been, amazing. She has assisted me very much in my efforts to alter the booking and has been nothing but accommodating. My dog, Penny, spent 2 weeks with her, her partner and their two dogs. I had met with Lana and the dogs prior to the holiday and she proved to be a very organised and experienced dog owner. I had daily updates whilst away but felt completely reassured that my precious pup was being looked after as well as I would have done if I had been there. On collection Penny looked happy, well and relaxed. It was a complete weight from my mind that whilst I was away that any issues or problems Lana was completely able to have dealt with might that have been necessary. I now know that on any event of needing dog care she is there, which is extremely comforting. Thank you Lana, and the dogs, for making Penny such a happy girl whilst I was away. Many thanks Sue Gearing (& Penny of course!) 🙏🤗

I couldn't have asked for a better dog sitter for Otto while I was away for a week. Communication was excellent, and I received daily updates, photos and videos which gave me complete peace of mind. It was lovely to see how settled, relaxed and happy Otto was in her care. Knowing he was being so well looked after meant I was able to enjoy my holiday without worrying about him. It was clear that he was treated like one of the family and I came home to a happy, content dog, and I am incredibly grateful for the care he received. I would not hesitate to book again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring dog sitter.

I would happily recommend Karen to anyone. We left our dog for the longest we'd left him and I couldn't have felt more understood and at ease. Our dog was completely relaxed and chilled out, apparently he didn't want to leave on his collection. Karen invited us over for a visit prior to booking in, which I really appreciated and gave our dog some time to get used to new surroundings with me there. I wholly recommend Karen to anyone on the fence about booking!

Amanda has looked after our dog twice now and twice he's ran in super happy and content. Our dog actually had 2 torn pads, of which both had been bandaged up, Amanda was still happy to have him and took great care of him, kept him distracted from pulling off his bandages and even changed them in the morning. I honestly couldn't feel happier and more content leaving my dog in Amandas care and would recommend to anyone!

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Claire and her lovely family. They had our 4.5-month-old working cocker spaniel, Enzo, for five nights and took such fantastic care of him. From the moment we dropped him off, we felt completely at ease. Claire, her husband and their adorable 2.5-year-old embraced the full madness and energy of a young puppy! Enzo was walked multiple times each day, given loads of attention, and clearly treated as part of the family. Their beautiful 4-year-old working cocker spaniel, Annie, was the perfect companion. She kept Enzo on his toes, helped teach him a few tricks, and looked like she genuinely enjoyed having him around. We received regular updates and could see how happy and settled he was, which meant the world to us. Enzo came home tired, content and very well cared for. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Claire to anyone looking for a caring, experienced and genuinely lovely dog sitter. Thank you again for looking after our boy so brilliantly!

FAQs for Dog Boarding - Colchester

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of June 2026, there are 670 sitters on Rover offering Dog Boarding across Colchester. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Finding the right boarding environment is all about peace of mind. Boarding with a sitter on Rover helps you find a cosy experience in a real home for your dog.

When searching for a host, look for a sitter who:

  • Offers a secure, home-like environment that is clean and welcoming
  • Adheres to your dog’s established routine for meals, activity, and rest
  • Possesses relevant experience with your pet’s specific breed, size, and personality
  • Maintains clear communication regarding the frequency of photo and message updates

Don’t skip the Meet & Greet! The free Meet & Greet is the best way to see where your dog will sleep and who they might play with.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Sitters in East of England may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
