“Josh was very responsive to emails and going over details about care for both my dog and home. He seemed to be very conscientious and responsible - two nice characteristics.”

“Sophia was great! She came to our house in advance to get familiar with our pup and where things are. We could immediately tell that our dog felt comfortable with her and loved her. Sophia asked great questions, took our dog for hikes every day, and sent regular updates and photos. We felt very confident in her and could not have asked for a better experience! We would absolutely recommend her as an amazing pet-sitter!”

About: I have 10 years of experience pet sitting for family and friends and I truly enjoy creating a safe, fun & nurturing environment. Your furry kids will be treated like part of the family, with consistent routines, lots of attention, just like my own pets. Caring for animals naturally fits into my lifestyle, and I bring that same sense of responsibility and joy to every pet I look after. I have a very open schedule which can accommodate a variety of time slots. I also provide local and long distance and can travel globally. I always require an online Meet & Greet before every booking to ensure we are a great fit. I maintain secure environments by double-checking leashes, securing gates, and pet-proofing spaces to prevent accidents. When house sitting, I respect your property as if it were my own. I follow your precise care instructions, ensure doors and windows are securely locked. I provide regular updates and photos so you can relax knowing your pet is in great hands. In the rare event of an emergency, I am familiar with local 24/7 veterinary clinics and am backed by the Rover Guarantee.
“Mindy looked after our two dogs Mojo and Rosie while we were out of the country for nine days. I'm typically nervous to leave my dogs with anyone new, but Mindy took excellent care of them, and I'm so appreciative! She sent daily updates on our request, and I couldn't believe that my beagle, who is super bonded to me, was lying on her back in the sun, looking totally relaxed. I'm very grateful to have connected with Mindy and will arrange our next vacation around her availability. :)”

“We are so glad to have found Emily! Emily took very good care of our senior dog who has some senior needs and behavioral quirks. She is very kind, responsive and on time. She has really nice, sweet and calm demeanor.”

About: Dogs have been a part of my family since I was born, and I’ve personally trained two of them myself. I’m currently an Animal Science student at Cal Poly SLO, where I’m constantly learning about and working with a wide variety of animals. I’m also a student employee and volunteer at some of Cal Poly’s animal units, where I work with bull calves and horses. These experiences have helped me feel confident and comfortable providing safe, attentive, and loving care for all kinds of companions. I truly love animals of all sizes and ages, and I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like or get along with. I understand how important it is to find someone you trust with your pet, and I will do my absolute best to make sure they feel loved, safe, and comfortable while in my care! As a Cal Poly student, my schedule varies at different points in the year, but I do my best to keep my calendar updated. I'm happy to work with you to find times that fit into your pet's routine! I will care for your pets no matter the environment! I can adjust to whatever your pets needs may be and will be diligent to ensure your animal has the best care possible.

I also have two cats of my own, so I’m very comfortable with pet care responsibilities and understand the trust involved in caring for someone’s animal. About: I love hanging out with dogs while their parents parents are away! I am a big hiker, so on the weekends I love taking the dogs out for a hike/long walks and even the beach if allowed! I currently work 8-5 with occasional early entry at 6am. Weekends I am free, and evenings I am free. I am typically active early in the morning, able to feed and walk in the mornings and afternoons. I typically like to pet sit at the owners home to make the time away from the pets parents as seamless as possible! I am incredible respectful of other peoples homes and incredibly clean and tidy.
“Clare is wonderful! She really helped me by sitting with my dog so I could go to work. My dog just had surgery and I needed someone to stay with her. Thank goodness for Clare! She is very sweet and my dog loves her. My dog was happy to spend her recovery with such a great sitter ❤️”
About: What sets me apart is my patience and attentiveness. As an ABA therapist, I’m great at reading behavior and staying calm, which helps with anxious, energetic, or high-needs dogs. I’m comfortable with puppies (training and routines) and senior dogs who may need extra care or a gentler approach. I treat every pet like my own and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. I work part-time, so I have a flexible schedule. I’m especially available on weekends all day and most weeknights, making it easy to provide consistent care, walks, and attention during those times. I’m good at sticking to routines and making sure pets get the care they need. I focus on creating a safe, calm, and comfortable environment for every pet. In a client’s home, I follow their pet’s routine closely involving feeding, walks, playtime, and any specific instructions so pets feel secure and stress-free. In my home, I make sure the space is clean, pet-safe, and supervised at all times. I also have two dogs at home with different sizes and needs, so I’m very comfortable adjusting care based on each pet’s personality, energy level, and routine. I pay close attention to behavior and safety, keep environments secure (doors, leashes, etc.), and always prioritize the pet’s well-being. I also provide regular updates so owners feel confident and at ease while they’re away.

I am so very grateful for Amelia! She stayed with my pup at my house for four nights and took such excellent care of her. She communicated with me regularly and sent fun pictures of their adventures-including the dog beach. Highly recommend Amelia to all dog families!

Ela did a great job pet sitting our cats and senior dog. She followed all the critter instructions and was very communicative, especially when our old guy was having problems while she was here. She sent lots of photos, too! We will definitely use her services again in the future.

Zoe is incredible! Our dog is very high energy and she gave him plenty of exercise and love. She kept us updated on how he was doing and sent pictures every day. Our home was in perfect condition when we got home. We would definitely have Zoe stay with our pup again!

Karah is amazing! We have a full of anxiety large dog and she handled him with love and care. She took him on exciting beach adventures and cooked up his special needs food. The house was spotless. She sent videos and pictures. We look forward to Karah's help again.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Luis Obispo on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Luis Obispo walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Luis Obispo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Luis Obispo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
