“Gabriela was amazing! She took care of our pets which not just include dogs but also a bunny and some farm animals! She was great about sending pictures and staying in touch with updates so that we felt comfortable the entire time we were away. I would recommend her 100%!”

“Bonnie is a fantastic dog/house sitter. She's super friendly, reliable, and easy to work with. And I love how she provides multiple photo updates throughout the day. Thanks Bonnie.”

“Phenomenal engagement with both of my pups and very comfortable with them considering they are big dogs. Would absolutely have him come and dog sit with my pups again. I know they enjoyed their time with him.”

About: I was raised with cats and dogs and have always loved animals. I have large and small dogs and cats and one horse. I even take care of butterflies! I can feed, medicate, train and love house pets and livestock. I worked for over thirty years as a psychiatric technician, so I can give injections to people and animals. I am patient, reliable and kind, and am a karate instructor in my spare time, so I can keep up with large and active animals. I groom my own large dogs and give them vaccinations, as well as my horse. I have handled a variety of animal-related emergencies, including snake bites, birth, evacuations from fires, and end-of-life care. I treat my animals like they are family.

“Monique is the absolute best!!! You won’t regret booking her. I was going on vacation for 8 days and Monique stayed at my place and took care of my two Pittbulls. I was very anxious and nervous for anyone that wasn’t myself to take care of my boys because one is very high maintenance. He has kidney disease so his diet is very detailed and he has had double ACL replacement surgery a year ago so his exercise is also very detailed and restricted. More than that- my dogs are both rescues and the big one gets separation anxiety from my boyfriend which has caused my dog to severely attack the other when my boyfriend isn’t around- to the point where my other dog has needed surgery. So taking care of my dogs includes a crate and roasts strict schedule and walking the dogs separately. I was full of anxiety trusting anyone with this, but literally within a day of my vacation i was at complete ease seeing how Monique was such a pro with taking care of the dogs properly and keeping them separate. Also 3 earthquakes hit in one morning while Monique was dog sitting- this caused a large storage rack in my garage to collapse and everything fell all over the place. Monique cleaned it up and organized the items that fell. Monique is going to be the only person i ever book with for my dogs.”

About: I have a deep love for animals and years of practical experience caring for pets of various breeds and sizes. I am highly attentive to their body language, energy levels, and specific daily routines, ensuring they always feel safe, happy, and well-loved while their owners are away. I have a highly flexible schedule that allows me to dedicate plenty of quality time to your pets. Whether it is morning walks, afternoon playtime, or overnight boarding, I can easily accommodate your pet's regular feeding and exercise routines without any rush. Safety is always my top priority. When watching pets, I maintain a secure, hazard-free environment and closely supervise all interactions. I strictly follow the owner's specific instructions regarding diet, medication, and outdoor habits, and I will keep you updated with regular photos and messages for peace of mind.
“I felt very comfortable away from my pets for a few days and came back to them in good spirits (and my apartment just so happened to be a bit tidier too). Eldar has a comforting presence and communicates as needed!”

“Letitia did a wonderful job sitting for my two dogs Kelso and Max. She was very attentive to their needs and gave me regular updates. She was excellent at communication. One of my dogs is elderly It takes medication and she made sure he was well taken care of. I would absolutely work with her again. Leticia was a fantastic sitter!”

“Taryn was amazing with our pup, Zelda! She was very communicative and went above and beyond by staying with Zelda the entire time. Zelda has extreme separation anxiety, so knowing she was never left alone gave us peace of mind while we were away. We truly appreciated how caring and attentive Taryn was and would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and dependable sitter. We will definitely book with her again whenever she’s available!”

“Rachel did such a fantastic job taking care of my pup! I felt at ease the entire time. She sent lots of updates and pictures/videos of my Ellie, she even brought her some treats and a toy!”

“Kat house sat for us with our 3 dogs for a weekend. She was really great at communicating during the stay and sending pictures of our dogs throughout the day. We returned to a very well looked after home and dogs. Overall, this was a very positive experience and we would certainly recommend Kat to anyone looking for house sitting needs and would 100% look to have her stay again when we take future trips!”

About: I've taken care of my neighbors pets off and on since 2018. Along with that I have taken care of my own dog since 2019. I don't mind picking up after a dog or if necessary cleaning up a dog in case something goes wrong I'm currently between jobs but I make it a priority to walk my dog every morning around my neighborhood 2-3 times a day 7 days a week. I make sure my dog is fed every morning and night, we play whenever she has too much energy or gets zoomies. Checking in on my neighbors or technically clients animals was always a top priority every morning or every other morning depending on instructions. I have no issues house sitting if it is needed
“We were away for a few days, and Consuelo took wonderful care of Buddy. She's reliable, responsible, and made us feel completely at ease while we were gone. Buddy was happy and well cared for when we returned. We truly appreciate the great care and would definitely recommend them!”
“Zoe did an AMAZING job of watching my two kitties (and my house) for TEN DAYS! My house was clean and, more importantly, my kitties were safe and happy. She kept me up to date on everything every day. I would HIGHLY recommend Zoe (and her b-friend) with whom to entrust your pets and house. Very trustworthy, clean, communicative, and honest. Will hire them many times more, if I can.”

“Ariel was absolutely wonderful. This was our first time using her and she immediately put us at ease. She took incredible care of our dogs and our home, kept us updated, and was thoughtful, responsible, and kind in every interaction. We came home to happy dogs and a spotless house which says everything. You can tell she genuinely cares about the animals she watches and takes the responsibility seriously. We feel very lucky to have found her and will absolutely be using her again. Highly recommend Ariel to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, communicative, and genuinely great with pets.”

“Kellar took great care of our pups (and house) while we were out of town! Kellar was great with updates and pictures, and was quick to check in when our old lady, Maggi, wasn’t eating (don’t worry, she was just holding out for the good stuff). Both pups were relaxed and happy when we got home - we would definitely ask Kellar to stay with Raffles and Maggi again!”

About: I love cats of all shapes and sizes, and they seem to like me back! I was the go-to pet sitter for friends who traveled often. My schedule is flexible! I am willing to devote a lot of time to your cat(s) on weekdays. I am open to pet sitting on weekends as well! I like to keep an eye on all cats under my care. I maintain a respectful distance until rapport has been established. I take lots of pictures!

About: I had male husky growing up, fostered a female pit bull and rescued a 2 year old toy poodle. They have brought me so much joy through hikes, beach trips, and play dates with friends. I am excited to learn more about every pets unique personality especially through walking and playing time. Your pets will be in a safe and tidy environment with me. It would be extremely helpful to me if you can provide me with any information about your pet to allow them the most exciting and fun experience when they are with me. Hope to meet your furry friends very soon. I currently work hybrid and only go in person a few times a week. My days are flexible for house sitting, lots of long walks, potty breaks. I frequently accompany my neighbors and friends pets whenever they needed. Owners will leave me instructions for feeding, exercise and play time. For my poodle, we normally go on 3 walks a day, but now with the heat wave, she’s limited to two walks, early morning and evening. During the day, she’s kept busy with puzzle games and mental stimulation!

“Sara was awesome! She sent lots of pictures and updates throughout the stay, which gave us so much peace of mind. Our dog can be a little nervous with new people but he warmed up to her really quickly, and it was obvious he felt comfortable with her. So happy to have found someone we trust with our dog and would absolutely recommend her!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Ontario
Braelyn was absolutely FANTASTIC! We had her stay in house with our very needy Australian shepherd and 2 cats while we were on vacation. Usually when we come home our dog is very anxious and will not leave our side. Not this time!! He was so well loved and taken care of in his own home he didn’t miss out on a second of attention. I will 1000% be using Braelyn for all of our future vacations!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Ontario on Rover is $77.7 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 9,406 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ontario. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ontario walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ontario maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ontario choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Ontario. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
