“Wednesday watched our dog Grace in our home for 2 weeks. They were very good at sending us updates and did a great job. We will definitely hire them again. Thanks Wednesday!”

About: Animals have always been a huge part of my life; I grew up surrounded by them and have been caring for them since I was young. For years, I’ve looked after dogs and cats for friends and family, gaining experience with many different breeds and personalities. Because my mother was a Veterinary Technician for 15 years, I grew up learning the essentials of animal wellness and safety directly from a professional. I am dedicated to bringing that same level of care and expertise to your pets! I currently work part-time as a lifeguard, so my schedule is incredibly flexible, and I have plenty of free time to dedicate to your furry friends. Whether it's high-energy playtime with dogs or cozy snuggles with cats, I thrive on making sure pets feel happy and safe while their owners are away. When I care for your pets in your home, my priority is maintaining the high standard of care they are already used to. Because every pet is unique, I tailor my approach to meet their specific needs and your household rules.
“Shannon took amazing care of our dog and was such a pleasure to work with. She kept us updated, was very reliable, and it was clear our dog was in great hands the whole time we were away. When our flight home got canceled she was incredibly kind and flexible, even offered to stay an extra night and came by again in the evening to let our dog out while we were scrambling to figure out new travel plans. That really meant a lot to us during a stressful moment. We came home to a very happy pup and everything in great shape. I would absolutely trust her to watch Lilly again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful, dependable sitter.”

“Nicole was wonderful to our pups! This was the first time we’ve left them overnight since adopting them so we were a little nervous at first. But she completely calmed our nerves!! I cannot thank her enough for treats them like they are hers. We will for sure be using her again! Thank you, Nicole!!”

“My dog and cat LOVED Chanelle!! She gave them so much love and took amazing care of them. She gave me a lot of updates which put my mind at ease while I was away. Would definitely use her again!!”

“Carol’s son stayed at our house and took great care of our dog, left the house clean, and provided frequent updates. We would work with them again and would recommend Carol and/or her family to others!”

“Samantha is the best! My dogs love her and she does an amazing job with them and their craziness. She is always communicative, very trustworthy, and was a HUGE help when our flight got cancelled and we needed some extra support until we got home.”

“Awesome caregiver to my two fur babies! So happy to have secured Jaiden to spend three days with Sophie and Penny. Her attention to their needs, time spent with them, and respect for my home are welcomed attributes from her. Enjoy reaching out to her and having her take care of your four-legged children.”

“Monica was a fantastic sitter! She stayed with our pups for the weekend and kept us updated daily with lots of pictures so we knew our fur babies were happy and given lots of love while we were away. We will definitely chose Monica to stay with our pets again.”

“This is our second time with Salem who did a wonderful job house sitting our 2 pups. Frequent updates, happy dogs and clean house when we returned. Will definitely ask to come back in the future!”

“Kaelin did a wonderful job taking care of our house and two dogs for six days while we were out of town. She sent pictures daily and seemed to really enjoy her time with the dogs. I recommend her services wholeheartedly!”

“If I could leave more than 5 stars, I would. I was super stressed about leaving our puppy here while on vacation, and she made it absolutely painless, anxiety free, and more. We received so many pictures and videos and there was constant communication. We came home to a clean house, a happy puppy, and she even helped us with puppyifying our place so she doesn’t get into things she’s not supposed to. Brittney will be our go to from now on.”

“Cameron was amazing. My dog is very nervous and doesn't open up to anyone new, not even sitters I've had for years. As is her usual, I told Cameron she likely wouldn't even come out of her crate for him, but I got pictures of her playing tug, getting belly rubs, and lying by his side. I was astonished. Cameron checked in regularly and sent tons of pictures and videos. Highly recommended.”

About: I grew up with a pair of golden retrievers and currently have two Puli and one Old English Sheepdog pup (he is big boy). I am patient, loving and affectionate towards all dogs. I will make your dog feel cared for while giving them the highest standard of care and attention. I work from home mostly and have the flexibility to spend time with dogs. Just like your pup, It's good for me to take breaks and get outside too. We will have a fence in the next few months and will have a beautiful backyard for dogs to run. We have a large home with lots of windows and light and would love to host other furry guests.
“Matthew was great!! We have a 5 month old vizsla puppy and he came and stayed at our house. He took Mater on long walks, always sent updates, photos, and videos. Mater was so happy when we got home, but also seemed like he missed his new friend! Matthew also cleaned the sheets, made the bed and washed all the towels. He kept the house very clean! Thank you so much!”

“Karen is a superstar! The dogs loved her and so did we! Karen is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to dog behaviors and personalities. It was our pleasure to have her watch Temple and Bandit over the weekend.”

“Nicole took great care of my two pups! Very attentive and loving on my doggies! I ended up extending my trip and Nicole was super flexible and responsive! Already sent another booking request :)”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - New Light
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shannon did an amazing job taking care of our two dogs, Leo and Choco! This was our first time using Rover, and she made the entire experience stress-free. She was very communicative, sent us regular updates and photos, and followed all of our instructions carefully. She was incredibly patient with Leo, our Husky, who can be a little stubborn at times, and she handled everything with great care. We came home to two happy, relaxed dogs, and it was clear they were well looked after. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with Shannon again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring pet sitter!

I don't have the words to express how thankful we are that Richie was our pet sitter for our wedding weekend. Not only was he amazing at his regular duties, making sure our cat got the medicine he needed even when he was being difficult, and making sure our pets all got given lots of love, but when our oldest dog had a very sudden health decline Ritchie stepped up in ways well beyond the call of duty. Not only did he help communicate with us throughout the ordeal, but when we had to make the tough call to have our boy put down while we were hours away from home, Ritchie stayed with him and gave him pets until the end, and helped us FaceTime to say goodbye and be there in that moment in the only way we could. If I could give him 100 stars I would! Thank you so much Richie, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and know how truly grateful we are for everything you did this weekend! ❤️

FAQs for House Sitting - New Light
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in New Light on Rover is $48.15 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 2,924 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New Light. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New Light walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New Light maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New Light choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in New Light. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
