Maya was amazing watching my Bichon Frise Roshi. He was diagnosed with a UTI shortly before I left for my vacation and she was able to provide him the best care in my absence. She was able to give him his antibiotics without issues and provided updates and photos throughout my absence. She was kind, respectful, and I really appreciated her. Thank you again for everything.

Priscilla has taken our dog on weekly walks and also just watched her while we were gone for our wedding. We were so grateful to have her watch our dog and couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter. She is genuinely the best and we knew our dog was in good hands so we didn’t have to stress. She gave us updates and was always responsive.

She stayed at our house for a week with them, and really put us at ease while we were away. We love (and the pups love!) having Shannon watch them!!!

Jen house sat for us for nine days and took care of our lab mutt Jamie and two cats, Remy and Lily. She did a wonderful job taking care of our furkids and followed my long list of instructions :). One of our cats is almost 16 and wasn't feeling well for a few days prior to departure. Jen gave her extra attention and got her eat her meals. While we were away our kitty made a full recovery and is back to her old-young self! Jen sent pictures and updates daily and our furkids really enjoyed being with her. Toward the end of her stay even Lily was sleeping in her bed along with the other two, and she never does that with just anyone. Jen truly understands owner and pets needs and she goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is happy. We will definitely be booking our petcare visits with her in the future :).

About: I’ve had dogs my whole life and just recently welcomed two cats into my family. I have been babysitting and nannying for as long as I can remember which would often lead to taking care of their four legged family members as well. I’ve assisted in potty training and with my own pets helped apply and give medications. I am someone who is reliable and trustworthy. I know how much my pets mean to me and have always treated any animals in my care as if they were my own. Right now I am off for the summer and because I work in a school am off on holidays and weekends. Once school starts again in August a typical work day is 7am-3pm. Throughout my years of working with families came a lot of house sitting and pet sitting for them and their friends. I am always respect of other peoples homes and am more than happy to take in mail/packages and take care of plants. I will always take care of your pets like they are my own. I am reliable and communicative.

Once again, Allie has done an incredible job watching our pups. She took such good care of our dogs and our home while we were out of the country for 10 days. She's the absolute best sitter and is so communicative and thoughtful. And most importantly, our dogs love her! Allie went above and beyond, and we will absolutely reach out to her again. This was our second time having Allie watch the pups, and it won’t be the last!

About: I have experience with dogs, working at a doggy day care for about 2 years. I learned a lot of skills from that role, like patience, how to handle aggressive behavior and de escalating situations between dogs. I also did some grooming as well (baths & nails trims) and administered medications. I have a free schedule for the rest of the summer so I'll be available pretty much any time until late august. I’m available every morning and evening, except Sunday mornings but are available Sunday evenings and afternoons for dog walks. Morning times are open to your preference but I’d say about 7am-11am and in the afternoon-evening 12pm-6pm. I am also available for overnight stays for as many days as you need! I would make sure to understand your pets individual needs and clarify those things with You before sitting. I like to know what the schedule is so I can adjust accordingly. I'd make sure they are fed and walked and played with.

About: Hi all! I’ve been pet-sitting since very young (age 10), having experience with various dog breeds and sizes as well as cats. Feel free to reach out so we can connect! I currently work per diem, so I have plenty of free time to care for little ones. I tend to have open availability, even for last minute requests! I am very open and able to follow any requests concerning your little ones. I understand that every pet is different when it comes to their needs, so I am very accommodating and willing to learn how to best care for your baby!

We had Chris come do an in-home stay for the first time with our reactive pitbull and he crushed it! Reactive dogs are not the easiest to find sitters for and Chris was very accommodating with setting up a meet and great before hand and had even done his own research ahead of time to make sure he was knowledgeable before going through the introduction process. Our dog warmed up to him right away and she was able to immediately identify him as a safe person since he was so calm and easy going with her. When it came time for him to stay, all that was needed was a quick reminder and they were best buds for the rest of the weekend. He quickly learns her quirks. He sent daily pictures and updates. Then when we returned, our mail was stacked on the counter and the house was very neat, just as we left it, which is always appreciated when someone stays in your home. During the introduction stage he even requested to be shown where our cleaning supplies were and when our trash gets taken out. Chris was not only an excellent dog sitter, but a great house sitter as well! We are frequent travelers and will definitely be continuing to use Chris.

Went above and beyond to provide quality companionship to my cat. I came back to find my home tidy and cared for. My cat suffers with separation anxiety that can cause her to act out but she was calm and behaved during my trip because of Maya’s love! Would 100% rebook.

Eleni went above and beyond, and I would happily recommend her to anyone who wants their dog to not only be cared for but to also have a lot of fun. This was my first time hiring a dog sitter outside of my own family, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Isabel. I was impressed from the very start, not only did my dog warm up to her right away, but Isabel immediately made me feel comfortable and confident leaving my dog in her care. She asked all the right questions, offered thoughtful recommendations, and really took the time to understand my dog’s needs and personality. During the stay, Isabel was fantastic with communication, sending regular updates and tons of happy, adorable pictures that gave me such peace of mind. Even when my dog unexpectedly needed an emergency vet visit (through no fault of hers), Isabel was completely on top of it. She could tell something wasn’t right and didn’t hesitate to act. She kept me informed throughout the entire situation and made sure my dog was okay and settled before leaving. On top of that, Isabel was able to watch my sister’s dog alongside mine, and she made the effort to meet both dogs beforehand, asking additional questions to make sure she could care for each of them properly. Every photo I received showed two happy, relaxed pups; it was clear they were in great hands. Overall, Isabel went above and beyond. I will absolutely be booking with her again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Hartford

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Hartford on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 1,428 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Hartford. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Hartford walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Hartford maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Hartford choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Hartford. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
