“This was my first experience using Rover, and Holly was amazing. She came back on lunch breaks, made sure the dogs got their walks, and took great care of a crazy boxer and her puppy brother. I have actually booked her for another trip already. Thank you, Holly, for being such a great sitter!”

“Hanna was really great. She was super accommodating for the very last minute booking. My dogs also loved her and that’s what I was most worried about. I was planning this trip for a few days and had my sister ready to watch my dogs but suddenly we had an extra dog in the house that my sister rehome three years ago. So I booked with Hanna and didn’t do a meet n greet at all. She sent lots of pictures for me and took my two 50 pound huskies on long walks all over my small town. The fact that my dogs even left my house with her says a lot about how much they loved her right away. I’m very grateful and would recommend and definitely book with her again.”

“Melissa takes the best care of our two girls. They get their own mini vacation with her while we are away, with extra treats dispensed in fun new toys and even a trip for a pup cup. She helped us out with extended coverage due to a long flight delay, which gave us incredible peace of mind thru what could have been a very stressful situation. Seriously, shes a superstar!”

About: I’ve always been an animal lover and began taking care of them at a young age. I understand that leaving your pets with someone is a big deal, so I treat every pet like family and make sure they receive plenty of attention, love, and care. I’m happy to follow your pet’s routine and special instructions, whether that means walks, feeding, playtime, cuddles, or simply keeping them company. I’d love the opportunity to meet your furry friends! I’m working full time, my weekdays start early at 6am but also end early in the afternoon. I am available early mornings and anytime in the afternoon. My weekends are completely free. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I focus on keeping them safe, comfortable, and in their normal routine. I follow the owner’s instructions carefully, make sure pets have fresh food and water, keep their environment clean, and give them the appropriate amount of attention, playtime, and exercise. I also make sure doors, gates, and other areas are secure so pets stay safe.

“Michaela was attentive to the dogs and sent pictures and updates. She also had my extremely skittish dog coming to her voluntarily to be petted, which almost ever happens in a week. The house was picked up and clean. Definitely highly recommend Michaela and hope to have her watch our dogs again!”

About: Hiya! I’ve been pet sitting for the last 15 years! Can’t have my own pets, would love to love on yours! Let’s chat and see how I can help you. I am currently starting my own business and I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule to help you in whatever ways you need. Unfortunately, I can not have pets in my home. But I am more than happy to keep your pets routine with extra walks and snuggles.
“Else did a wonderful job taking care of our dog, cat and home. We took a vacation for a week, and felt very confident in Elyse after meeting with her. Lucy is our 2 year old pitbull and she warmed up to Elyse right away. Our cat is not as out going but Elyse was an excellent care giver to them both. Our home was treated with respect and we plan to contact her again with any other trips we my take.”

“Kelsey and Forrest were wonderful with our senior dog! They were incredibly patient, kind, and understanding of his special needs, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. They kept us updated with great communication throughout the stay, and it was clear that our dog was well cared for and loved. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend Kelsey and Forrest to anyone looking for reliable, compassionate pet sitters!”

“Evelyn did amazing for our high energy rescue pitty and two cats! She gave us great updates and photos of our babies and left the house spotless. We’ve already asked for her help again. Thanks Evelyn!”

“Skyler did a great job watching our dogs and provided us with photos of the pups throughout the days we were gone which gives you a great piece of mind when vacationing. Would definitely recommend and will book again!”

“Ashleigh was great companion for our pup ella bean! She went above and beyond when she had a car issue and still got to our pup and take care of her! She was very happy when we got home. She also went above and beyond helping us keep plants watered and odds and ends.! Highly recommended!”

“Genevieve was a great dog/house sitter for my German Shepherd! She sent regular updates with pictures and left the house spotless. We’ll definitely be rebooking with her in the future!”

“Ricardo stayed in my home for two weeks to take care of our two mini doodles, one of whom needed medicine while we were gone. We returned home to two happy, well-fed and well-cared for dogs. He did a great job and I would be happy to hire him again. Before staying with them, he visited with the dogs on two occasions and both seemed to take to him immediately. Grateful for his care for them while we were away.”

“Kate did a great job watching our 2 dogs and cat while we were away! She sent updates each day. Came home to a clean house with animals happy and taken care of. Would have her watch them again!”

“Thanks again to Debbie for another wonderful few days with Ollie! He is always so so excited and happy to see her which speaks volumes to her care and love for animals.”

About: I can work with dogs that have anxiety and aggressive. And cats too and any other animals. As I love animals of any size big or small Saturday-Sunday I can do anytime Monday-Friday after 2:30pm unless I'm staying in the house sitting and petsitting. Then time doesn't really matter as much then. Environment would be your home as I rent and they don't allow petsitting. Depends if yard is fence area if it is then I will play ball with them.
“Great, couldn’t say more. Left my place cleaner than I left it and kept me informed throughout the weekend about how Murray was with pictures and updates. Highly recommend.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Grand Rapids
Kate was amazing!! During the meet and greet she was so good with our dog who is slow to warm up to strangers. While we were out of town, she sent frequent updates, lots of photos, and Frank was happy and calm when we got home. She went above and beyond and even refilled some of his frozen treat containers when we were gone! Would definitely love to have her look after Frank again.

Thank you for watching our two pups for overnight stays! Jessica provided clear updates just frequently enough with photos along the way, which I appreciated. It was clear she had care for our fur kids and also to our house. We look forward to having Jessica back again to watch our two pups!

Leksi is easily the best sitter we have had for our pups! She came and met the dogs before hand and clearly cares for animals a lot! She asked questions and checked in throughout the week. She sent us daily pictures and updated us on the little things. We came home to a clean home that was the exact way we left it! Plus our dogs who seemed super happy and content!

Marissa did an amazing job taking care of my 1yr old Rottie and cat while we were in Ireland for 5 days! This was our first time leaving our Rottie to go on a trip since we got her, and Marissa made the process super easy! We did a meet and greet beforehand, she was always very responsive and sent me photos of both pets while we were away, and even came an extra time the last night as our flight was delayed and we ended up getting in much later than expected. Harley and Thea loved having her and it was amazing to be able to travel without worrying about them both. Would absolutely book Marissa again!

Holly Jean did a fantastic job with Bernie. He seemed happy and our house was well-cared for. She sent pictures and videos of him while we were away. She made sure to clarifying any directions she wanted to be sure of. We would be happy to have her stay with Bernie again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Grand Rapids walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Grand Rapids maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Grand Rapids choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Grand Rapids. On Rover:
- 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
