About: Hello! With two years volunteering at the East Bay SPCA and my current role as a veterinary clinic team lead at Modern Animal, I've built a strong foundation in compassionate, attentive pet care. Homeowners can count on me to treat their pets and homes with the same respect and love I give my own. My work schedule is currently a bit fluid. I’m happy to share my current availability upon request. I’m usually up by around 8 a.m. and in bed by midnight. I like to start the day with a walk, do another one midday, and end with a final walk before bed, along with regular check-ins, feeding, and quality time throughout the day.
“Lehua took good care of our house and dogs while we were away. She was very neat and prompt with communication. We got daily updates/pictures to put my mind at ease. Would definitely recommend!”

“Ryan is excellent. He really knows how to interact with dogs. He is prompt and communicative. And we recieived great photos of our pup every day we were gone. We will continue to book Ryan as our dog sitter!”

“I would highly recommend Rebecca. She sent photos and videos with updates so I knew he was in excellent hands. She managed my very spoiled pup fabulously and I’m very grateful for the care she provided to him!”

“Our cat is usually a little standoffish with strangers but Ria was great with her. She sent frequent updates and pictures to us while we were away which was a relief since this was our first time using this service. We would definitely book her again!”

“Janey was amazing! She was super communicative and took amazing care of our two older pups! We went away for a long weekend and were able to enjoy ourselves knowing our pups were well cared for and in such good hands. We came home and the house was perfect and maybe even tidier than when we left ! I know our dogs can’t wait to see her again 🤍”

“Haily and Benjamin took such wonderful care of our German Shepherd and kitty while we were out of town!! They sent daily updates and photos and our pets were so well cared for and happy. We will be requesting them anytime we are out of town ☺️”

“We used Veronica to house sit and to watch our cat and dog. Veronica communicate with us daily about our animals and sent us pictures. She was super friendly and listened to all of our needs in taking care of our animals. I would recommend Veronica and definitely will be using her again to watch our animals.”

About: I have had dogs my entire life, I have experience training 4 dogs from puppy age through middle age and up until senior age! The dogs I have taken care of range from big dogs (german shepherds) to tiny dogs (teacup chihuahuas). I have a very active lifestyle that allows me to have fun with the dogs and get them active. I have experienced working with shelter dogs, I actively walked them and fed them. I HAVE BASE ACCESS :) !! My schedule has my days ending early afternoons so I would be available to stop in for walks/check-ins after. My nights are flexible for night visits. I currently live in dorm housing where animals are not allowed but for care inside client homes I will keep a watchful eye when letting your pet out and pay close attention to instructions.
“Thank you Liz for taking such good care of our fur babies! We have a very needy (high separation anxiety) puppy and she was able to stay with him and our other dog all day :D. She also followed our directions/routines to the tee - walking, feeding, training. She went above and beyond and even clear our floors when she noticed the dogs made it dirty. We are truly grateful for Liz. Her dedication and professionalism are unmatched! Will be reaching out to her again :)”
“Shalyn is an awesome pet sitter! She stayed in my apartment, caring for my two large dogs and there were no issues. I was worried about them pulling on the leash, but she had no trouble walking them. She sent pictures daily too. I highly recommend her for your pet sitting needs!!!”

About: I grew up surrounded by animals, and from a young age I learned to understand their personalities, rhythms, and unique ways of communicating. That natural sensitivity isn’t something you learn later in life—it’s something you grow up with. I’m a geographer with studies in biology and a master’s degree in territorial development, which gives me a deeper understanding of animal behavior, environment, and safety. My life has always been connected to nature. I rock climb and hike regularly, so if your pet is active, I can offer exploration, movement, and outdoor experiences. If your pet prefers calm, I provide routine, stability, and a peaceful environment. I adapt with patience to every temperament, from the most independent and reserved to the most affectionate and curious. My experience as a teacher strengthened my empathy, calm communication, and ability to create trust. I can also administer non‑injectable medications and keep you updated with photos and messages so you always feel at ease. I chose pet care because it brings me back to what’s real, simple, and full of heart. When your dog or cat stays with me, they’ll be treated with love, respect, and dedication—like part of my ʻohana. I have a flexible schedule and can adapt to whatever your pet needs. I’m available in the mornings, throughout the day, and in the evenings, including weekends. When possible, I also accept last‑minute requests. My priority is keeping your dog or cat on a stable routine, with steady company and a safe, calm environment. I only offer pet care in the client’s home and adventure walks, because I believe pets feel safer and more relaxed when they stay in their own familiar environment. In your home, I follow your pet’s routine exactly as they know it—feeding times, medication, play, rest, and any special instructions. I respect your home’s rules and adapt to your pet’s temperament, whether they’re independent, shy, or very affectionate. I also offer adventure walks, ideal for active dogs who enjoy exploring, hiking, or releasing energy in nature. Thanks to my experience with hiking and climbing, I guide them with calm attention, safety, and responsibility. In both cases, I keep you updated with photos and messages so you always know how your pet is doing. My priority is creating stability, trust, and a caring environment wherever your pet feels most at home.
“Matomi dog sat our dogs, Koda and Luna for 3 days. It has been awhile since we needed this service. Koda and Luna was well cared for, while we were away, Matomi also kept us updated and also sent us photos of Koda and Luna. The pictures she sent were so comforting for us to see because Koda and Luna look so comfortable and relaxed. We didn't feel any worries and felt so comfortable with Motomi caring for them and house sitting. We will always use Motomi when we need her services again. Thank you Motomi. Ray, Maki, Koda, and Luna.”

“Sofiya cared for my 2 doggies as if they were her own. She is extremely professional, responsible, and caring. She is very flexible and reliable and made my life easier, when we had to leave to take our daughter out of state for college. Sofiya also gave me a ride to the airport! Which she didn't have to do at all. She kept us updated with lots of pictures, videos, and a few phone calls to check in. She treated my 2 dogs with great care, respect, and love. Would definitely recommend her and will rebook her if we ever need a dog sitter again.”

“Alessandra is the GOAT! I was naturally a bit anxious about a stranger staying in my house, but she completely blew those worries away. Her energy is 10/10!! She is sweet, genuine, and incredibly loving toward my dog Tito! We started this booking as strangers and ended it as great friends. If you can snag a spot on her calendar, DO IT. She is a total gem and an absolute professional!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Fort Shafter
We had such a wonderful experience with Shalyn! She took amazing care of our two dogs and our cat while we were traveling off island, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. One of our dogs is very anxious around new people and can sometimes be reactive toward both people and other dogs, so we were a little nervous about leaving him. From the initial meet and greet, though, Shalyn was patient, calm, and wonderful with him. He warmed up to her right away, which is incredibly rare and gave us so much peace of mind. Throughout our trip, Shalyn was incredibly communicative and sent us lots of photos and videos, which we always looked forward to. It was obvious from all the updates how comfortable our pets were with her. Seeing how much the dogs played with her, sought her out, and interacted with her made it clear they genuinely enjoyed having her there. We came home to happy, well-cared-for pets, and we’re so grateful for the excellent care she provided. We look forward to booking Shalyn again for future sittings and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and communicative pet sitter!

Andrés is the best sitter, hands down! While I've had Andrés housesit before, it was only for a night, but this time, he housesat for 5 nights. Pawson is so comfortable with Andrés because he takes such good care of him. Andrés followed all instructions to a tee, and he left things tidy. Andrés was communicative throughout my trip, sending updates regularly. Best of all, Andrés made sure that my Pawson was comfortable and active, relieving his stress. I'm so grateful for Andrés, and Pawson will definitely be seeing him regularly! Mahalo, Andrés!

Hannah and Ian were fabulous with my lil Hela while I was away for 3 days. They were very open minded and helpful from the very beginning. I highly recommend them to take care of anyone's pet. They made sure Hela was well fed and cared for and even sent me pics along the way. Thanks Hannah & Ian!

Sofiya did a long stretch of house and cat sitting for me. She is clearly a warm hearted animal lover. I appreciated her willingness to take on the care of my cat in declining health. She went out of her way to care for him and to keep me updated. The house was kept neat and clean. I would hire her again without any hesitation.

Yee Ki took great care of both our pup, fish, and house +house plants! She met with us first to learn the special needs of our pup (medical condition) and we felt at ease getting to meet her in person first. Yee Ki provided regular photo updates, and extra communication when necessary. The house was in the same condition as when we left - tidy and neat. It’s clear she took extra care to ensure our return home would be comfortable and stress free. We appreciate Yee Ki’s service and would recommend her to anyone.

Ryan was absolutely incredible with Arya and George. From the moment they met, he brought such calm, positive energy that my pups instantly trusted him. Throughout the stay, he sent thoughtful updates, photos, and little notes that showed just how attentive he was. I came home to happy, relaxed dogs and a house that looked even better than I left it. It’s rare to find someone who treats your pet like their own, but Ryan truly does. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Claire was outstanding in every way caring for our two large dogs and our home. It was obvious that she genuinely enjoyed being with them, and we couldn't ask for more than that. She was interested and enthusiastic about learning their normal routines, sent us many text, photo and video updates, and also took amazing care of our home and plants. It was such a relief to know that our dogs were so well loved while we were away. She made sure they got all the exercise they're used to, the special dietary needs met, and most of all the cuddles that they crave. We will request her again and again!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Fort Shafter on Rover is $38.85 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 1,040 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Fort Shafter. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Fort Shafter walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Fort Shafter maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Fort Shafter choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
