Kathryn took excellent care of our dogs and home. She was the most communicative sitter I’ve ever had through Rover. We received many photos, and updates on the dogs’ activity. She went to extra efforts to clean up accidents, as well. I would highly recommend Kathryn!

David is an incredible sitter! He connected with all four (yes, FOUR) of my animals (3 cats + 1dog) while we were away. He provided frequent updates with pictures and didn’t hesitate asking questions. David offers a calm energy, is completely attentive, enjoys playing and connecting with each animal and bonded with them so effortlessly - he is amazing! Thank you, David, for taking such incredible care of our fur-family!

Ari was fantastic with my pup! She gladly took a last minute emergency need and was wonderful with my English Bulldog, Penny. Clearly comfortable around dogs and even when Penny was a little stubborn to leave me, Ari was able to easily get her moving and on her walk. Highly recommend her and I know Penny will be excited to see her again!

Krystle very lovingly cared for my puppies and was soooo patient with their potty training! She was an excellent houseguest--brought in our mail and packages, brought in our garbage cans, and washed her own linens and puppies laundry before our return. She sent daily pics and updates assuring us the puppies were getting exercised, cared for, and cuddled. The house and puppies were in excellent condition on our arrival. Thank you so much, Krystle; you made our vacation extra enjoyable!

About: I co-owned two dogs with my neighbor as a child. My jobs was to walk and feed them. The first was a Saint Bernard who "decided" he wanted more space and fresh air and moved to the country. Later came a Golden lab. Then, we had milking goats, chickens, emus and rabbits... I have 2 cats I love dearly. They love walking around the yard showing me their favorite finds; usually it's a whole of some kind. I walk a lot on my own a Marin and can talk your furry well-behaved pet around your neighborhood and beyond. I am very dependable, always on time (unless major accident happens) and love all furry friends like my own pets. Available most days and/or week-ends between 8 AM and 9 PM for in home visits or dog or cat walking. Some cats like to go on walks too! Safety and the good physical and emotional health of your pet(s) are my priority. I will follow your health guidelines carefully and provide clean water upon each visit.

Vanessa watched our sweet lab Utah for 10 days while we went on vacation. I could tell Vanessa truly loves caring for animals as she spent so much time with Utah to make sure she was happy. Utah got multiple walks a day, played fetch at the park and lots of snuggles. It was quite a challenge to get Utah to part ways with Vanessa once we returned from vacation. They had become the best of buds. We are so glad to have finally found our go-to sitter for when we leave town. We also made her our regular walker as Utah demands having her in our lives!

We absolutely loved having Joanna watch our two dogs! She showed them so much love, care, and patience that we knew our dogs were well cared for the entire time. Our dogs require extra medical attention and she ensured they stayed healthy. Joanna also does a great job of caring for the house she is staying in and we came home to no issues along with happy dogs. 10/10 recommend her and would book again!

About: Having 2 dogs of my own I am well versed in every aspect of making pets feel loved and cared for! I have cared for pets for nearly 8 years house sitting overnight, taking pups for lengthy walks and doing check ins/ feedings. I make it my mission to bond with your pet and make sure they are comfortable. I am available for pet sitting when I am home from college. My schedule is mostly flexible with majority of my availability being in the afternoons/evenings on weekdays and all day on weekends. I make sure that pets have the chance to warm up to me and that I put their needs first. I am comfortable with judging when a dog wants to go for a longer walk or head home early. Similarly with cats, I am able to gauge if a cat needs extra play time or if they want to be alone to nap. I will always check in with you as the owner before I sit, to make sure I know exactly what your pet needs!

About: I myself have pets and I too am hesitant to leave anyone with them. I will treat your pet like it’s my own and keep you updated every step of the way! I am actively trying to get as many steps in as I can per day, so I love going on long walks! But I also love chilling on the couch with a shy or non-active pet. Weekdays: early morning drop-ins and evening walks (besides during July I am more open) Weekends: Any time with a head's up! I am a preschool teacher and tutor so please don't hesitate to reach out about scheduling, as my hours are flexible. I like to make sure the pet feels loved and safe first and foremost and I make sure to keep great communication with the client! I am very adamant on making sure all the necessary tasks are completed as well.

Juliana was a fantastic pet- and house-sitter. She took our dog on many fun outings and spent lots of time with her. Juliana took great care of the house as well, and communicated extremely well when a couple of minor issues came up. We highly recommend Juliana without any hesitation.

This was the second time that Kathryn has watched over Peanut. We never have to worry when she watches over our kitten. Peanut is always so comfortable and playful with Kathryn - it makes it easier to enjoy our time away when we know she is in such good hands. Not only does Kathryn take great care of Peanut, our house is somehow always more sparkling when we return which makes for a great homecoming.

Our first experience with Rover... and we couldn't have met a nicer person or a more wonderful dog sitter. Ariela was so patient with our twin Maltese pups. We feel like we hit the jackpot when we discovered Claire! And we would not hesitate to book her again to stay with our two pets!!! Claire came by ahead of time for a meet-and-greet, and even our kids immediately loved her. They actually asked if she could come back and babysit, which she very kindly offered to do. While we were away, Claire sent photos and videos of our dog and cat, and clearly gave our pets loads of TLC. Our cat, who is usually pretty fussy with strangers, seemed completely relaxed and happy, which says everything!!! Our coonhound can also be a handful on walks and Claire handled her without a single issue all week!! When we got back from our trip late at night, the pets were calm and cozy, and it was such a relief to walk in and feel like everything had been so well cared for. We had such peace of mind with Claire at our house, looking after our pets, and we look forward to working with her again soon. Thanks again, Claire!!!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Fairfax

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Fairfax on Rover is $83.25 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 7,159 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Fairfax. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Fairfax walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Fairfax maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Fairfax choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Fairfax. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
