“Janelle was amazing! Because of Janelle, I was able to go on vacation for the first time in 18 months. My cat has stage C CHF and requires extensive medical attention - she did a great job handling it. She was thoughtful, responsible, and reliable. She kept a calm composure throughout which is critical for his condition. They quickly became best friends so I never had to worry he was sad or lonely. Definitely put my mind at ease while I was away. Highly recommend.”

“Erik was great and responsive, given the short notice on my end. He was punctual and provided updates with my Evie. Would absolutely recommend and book again. Thanks!”

“From the start, Rachelle was top-notch! She was communicative, thorough, warm, and professional. She stayed with our 2 cats (one senior) over the long Labor Day weekend and sent daily messages and pictures. She was prompt in responding to my messages and any questions I had. Our senior girl can be finicky about eating and guests, but she seemed to warm to Rachelle very quickly. We returned to happy cats and an apartment that looked just like we left it! I would happily have Rachelle stay with our girls anytime!”

About: Hello! I'm Harlow. I grew up with dogs and cats, and they hold a very special place in my heart. For the past few years, I have been a petsitter and walker for people around my neighborhood, but I'm looking now for some more consistent walks and sitting jobs. I’m a visual artist and musician. (Let me know if you’d like a portrait of your pet! I’ll show you some others I’ve done 😊) I’m passionate about social justice and uplifting marginalized communities. I'm patient, caring, responsible, and I'm great with animals, as well as very intuitive about their feelings and needs. I will give your pet lots of love and attention! I can't wait to meet your sweet animals! I’m currently working after-school hours, so I am generally free in the mornings and on weekends to spend time with and walk your pet! I currently can’t board because my cat doesn’t love animal company, but I’m happy to do drop-in visits and pet sitting in your home. I always leave any place I go just as I found it, or nicer if possible! I’m tidy and always respectful of other people’s spaces.
“Avary is amazing. She helped me out tremendously by caring for Iggy when I had a stressful period of travel. She was thoughtful, kind, and understanding with me and very mindful as a guest in my home. She took great care of my special needs dog, who is quite a handful. I recommend Avary without hesitation and will defend reach out to her again when I need a pet sitter. Thank you Avary!!!”

“Siaira was exceptional! We’ve always had the same person stay with Ellie when we go out of town but they weren’t available this time so we turned to Rover and found Siaira. Her perfect 5 star rating is no accident — she is clearly an animal lover and was attentive to Ellie and communicative with us. We were a bit nervous leaving with her a new person, but it was clear immediately from all of the photos Siaira sent how happy Ellie was with her. Would absolutely use her again!”

“Sadie was communicative and easy to work with! I goofed up when I booked but she was flexible and worked with me. She updated me regularly on how the cats were doing with photos and they seemed pretty content. Would recommend!”

“Noah is a very kind and attentive pet sitter. This was my first time using Rover, and I made a last minute booking with him- he did his very best to make it to me on time and was incredibly kind and communicative. I would recommend Noah to anyone and look forward to having him watch Olive & Clarence anytime!”

“Michael was an excellent pet sitter. He did a great job caring for our pets. He walked our somewhat reactive dog without any issues and made sure she and our two cats were fed and happy. He was quick to respond and provide fun updates about the pets while we were away. We will definitely have him stay again in the future.”

“Sophia was super sweet and watched over my anxious pup so well during his first time visiting NY. Will definitely hire her again. She was also really good at keeping us in the loop with pictures and updates on how he was doing.”

I had a fantastic experience with Erik house sitting Scamp for me. I was a little nervous using a sitter for the first time because Scamp is large and reactive to other dogs, but Erik was able to accommodate him completely. Scamp received lots of walks and I was updated frequently throughout! He also left the house in perfect shape at the end of his stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

Halie was fantastic with our two cats! They absolutely loved her! She even helped set up our new cat fountain and kept us updated with plenty of pictures and messages. We felt very comfortable knowing our cats were in such great hands and would definitely recommend her!

Candice was amazing! My dog Dashi had gone to the ER for glass stuck in his paw the day before she was supposed to come and she went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable. She was able to give him his meds and also make sure he kept his cone on and wasn’t licking his wound. I would trust Candice anytime with Dashi! She also left the place spotless :)

Xueyun is such a gem! Tommy and her clicked from the very first moment and she was very communicative and made sure to follow our sitting guidance, as well as sending us daily photos and even leaving us and him with a personalized present. We came back to a clean home and a very happy cat. Thank you!

I have a high-energy dog, so I was a little nervous about leaving her with a sitter for a week. Diana made the whole experience so easy and stress-free. She stayed at my home and made sure everything went smoothly while I was away. She kept me updated with pictures and let me know how everything was going, which gave me so much peace of mind. I trust Diana 100% with my dogs and would book her again and again. Highly recommend!

Haley was wonderful! She took great care of our senior dog and the apartment was left in a perfect state, as well. She was also so flexible when our flight arrived much earlier than anticipated, which I really appreciated! She has a warmth about her and my dog took to her right away. She's great, looking forward to having her come hang out with Greta again. Thank you!

Highly recommend! Faith did an amazing job taking care of our dog while we were away for 10 days. Our dog is blind and elderly, so he requires extra patience, attention, and care, and she handled everything wonderfully. She was very patient, attentive, and communicative throughout my trip, which gave me so much peace of mind. She also kept my home very clean and treated both our dog and our place with great care and respect. We are very grateful for everything she did and would definitely have her sit for our dog again!

We couldn't have been happier with the care Kimora provided for our dog and cats while we were away. She is responsible, reliable, and an excellent communicator. We appreciated the multiple updates and photos she provided each day and the cleanliness of our apartment when we returned. We would absolutely recommend her and will be happy to book her again in the future.

Sophie a has been a major help for us while we travel. She is very responsive and understanding of the fact that we cannot be with our pets while traveling and she always provides us with updates throughout the day. She is trustworthy and responsible. We have had her stay more than once in our home and would not hesitate to have her again. Boss and Loki love her. Thank you.

Claire was so sweet and a great communicator! She really cared about the kitties (even if they took a bit to warm up to a new pal), she gave them their space and they seemed very happy with her around. She took lots of photos and was generally super easy to work with. Will definitely book again!

Alexa was absolutely amazing!! She was incredibly warm and friendly at the meet and greet and was great meeting my high energy pup. Her care during my time away was fantastic- great communication, frequent updates, and plenty of photos which all gave me absolute peace of mind while being gone. I cannot recommend her more and will absolutely be reaching out for future stays! I came home to a very happy pup (and a clean home!) and could not have had a better experience. Thank you Alexa!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred East New York walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in East New York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in East New York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
