“Jewel was quick to respond to my request and asked many good questions before agreeing to house sit. She also wanted to have a meet and greet before our appointment which I really appreciated. She is very communicative, thorough in terms of what is expected and knowing what the dogs need, and very good-humored; she even took notes during our meeting. The dogs were immediately comfortable with her and I was perfectly confident leaving them in her care. She gave me updates during the day, and everything was great when I returned. The dogs were happy and so was I. I would certainly request her to stay with them again.”

“Second time of many having Chris help us out with our puppy! We booked him for house sitting while we enjoyed a night off. We always have peace of mind having him puppy sit knowing he can handle all the energy our pup throws at him.”

“Schirn was incredible! She made sure to give updates and showed a lot of love for my girl. My flight was delayed and she extended an extra night for us. I truly am so grateful for someone caring for our dog this way!!”

About: My first time taking care of a dog and house sitting was in 2018. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Even though the pandemic has changed how we live our lives, I am definitely looking forward to getting back to Dog walking or sitting. I currently work full-time. I can be available on the weekends. The morning or even the afternoon works well with me. I can also try to change my schedule if needed. I follow any instructions given to me on how to care for a pet. I have and will treat them as if they were mine.
“Vanessa was great with our dog and guinea pig while my family was away. She was communicative, sent pictures and videos, followed all our instructions and took great care of our house . We will definitely use her again.”

About: At a young age family members asked me to take care of their pets. Fast forward now my sister has relied in me to walk and dog sit her pup. I'm an artist/art-teacher/illustrator/computer- animator. Right now my schedule is pretty flexible. So why not use my free time to do something I enjoy doing and love. Will always respect someone's home and their pet and follow their rules and directions. And will leave a note or message to the owner on how day went.

About: I am an environmental student who loves animals! I’ve owned my dog, Srey for 10 years. I have also volunteered to care for a wide range of animals(mammals, amphibians) at a local environmental center, so I am familiar with basics like exercising animals and maintaining a safe and cleanly environment. I also have owned mice and fish. I am a college student who is currently back home in New York City for break, with pretty much full availability, excluding one week in July(8th-15th). I’d like to specialize in multiple dog walks per day, with drop-in availability as well. I intend to give full engagement with your animal(s) during the duration of drop-ins. I am enthusiastic about providing play/social time, especially for dogs that require constant attention, as I love clingy animals especially.
“Meaghan has watched my puppy, Buck a few times now while I travel and she is great! Very reliable, responsible and considerate! I feel super comfortable leaving my guy with her and highly recommend booking with her!”

Neighbors, friends and families have counted on me to walk, play, train, and run with their beautiful pets. I offer special care, love and attention the entire time I will spend with your pet! About: I just graduated from Boston University and am now back home in NYC! I would love to be able to look after my neighborly cats and dogs and make sure they are taken care of while their loved ones are away. :) I take the time to learn each pet’s quirks, and comfort spots before day one, and I send regular photo and video updates so you're never left wondering how things are going! I work remotely from home, so my schedule is genuinely flexible and pet care fits naturally into my day. I’m available anytime during the week, not just evenings or weekends, so I can adjust to your pet’s routine rather than the other way around. Whether it’s a midday walk, a feeding schedule, or checking in between meetings, I have the time and flexibility to cater to what your pet actually needs. Whether I’m caring for pets in your home or mine, safety and consistency come first. In your home, I follow your routines exactly, feeding times, medications, walk schedules, so your pet’s day stays as normal as possible while you’re away. If care happens at my place, I keep a calm, distraction-free space and give your pet my full attention rather than juggling other animals. I don’t have pets of my own, which means no territorial issues, no competing for food or attention, and no risk of picking up something from another animal. I’m comfortable using crates, baby gates, or leashes if that’s part of your pet’s routine, and I always check in with you before making any changes.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Kew Gardens
Another great day being able to go to work and know that my boys are in good hands with Jewel! She is communicative, punctual, and a natural with interacting with the dogs - not giving them too much attention when it would make them overexcited, and being very kind and affectionate when the time is right. I certainly recommend her to you.

Savanna is one of the sweetest pet sitters I have ever had. She is so patient and sweet with both my pups, even my rescue who is very timid. It's so valuable to have someone you trust. Whenever Savannah is sitting, I never worry about them because I know they are in good hands. She is always on time and keeps me informed on the sit. I would recommend her to anyone I know who is looking for a loving pet sitter.

Isabel did a very nice job with my dog Onyx. She was with him for two days and one night. She followed every instruction I gave, and kept in touch with me the whole time. She also kept the house very tidy as well. The cherry on top was the fact that she left her own little note to me and I really appreciated that. Would definitely book her again.

Charlie was fantastic. I needed a last minute pet sitter and am so glad I found him. He had great communication, fast response time, and my dog loved him and I was able to enjoy my trip knowing she was being well cared for. I've used Rover before and it has been an up and down experience due to people initially agreeing and then not responding or cancelling days later. I'm really happy to have found Charlie and can't tell you how much I appreciated his quick and reliable communication.

I cannot express enough how happy I am we found Phaedra! Shelby and Lucky instantly warmed up to her and we knew right away they’d be in great hands while we were away. She kept me updated the whole time and spent a lot of time working with Shelby, who is afraid of everything and is very reactive on walks, and it was amazing to see the difference in her from when we left to when we got back. We came home to happy pups and a clean house. I will definitely have Phaedra watch Shelby & Lucky again!

Nouni took great care of my two pups at our home while we were away. She was very responsive to our texts and had no issues administering my boy Lino’s daily eye medication. They enjoyed their walks, and even though there was snow everywhere, they were walked daily, fed properly, and had a great time with her👏🏽 Definitely recommend her!

Rachael put my timid senior rescue girly at ease right away. It was such a relief to know she'd be well-cared for. Rachael even got on the floor and tried to handfeed her, when she wasn't interested in her breakfast! Lots of pics and updates, too. Will definitely be using Rachael again.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Kew Gardens on Rover is $42.8 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 18,889 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Kew Gardens. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Kew Gardens walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Kew Gardens maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Kew Gardens choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Kew Gardens. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
