“Veronica was incredibly attentive to our pups. Our older dog can sometimes be anxious, but had no problems while Veronica was here - I’m guessing because she felt comfortable and taken care of. Veronica left our place cleaner than when we left. We’d be happy to have her back!”

“Heather was wonderful! Chet had such a good time with her. She did the best job of keeping us informed on how they were doing and the worry-meter went waaaaay down. The house was in excellent condition and the yard was completely clean. Great job, Heather! You made a stressful trip worry free, as far as our beloved pet was concerned. Thank you SO much!!!”

“Bry was so caring and loving to my pets my neighbors even noticed. She is very kind, Profesional and trustworthy. She was punctual and very communicative. I will definitely hire her again. I had s great experience using Rover for the first time. I felt very reassured and relaxed about the process”

“This was the first time Lucinda stayed in our house and took care of our dog. I can't say enough about how wonderful it all went! Lucinda is an excellent communicator which is very important to me. She sent me regular updates and photos. I felt very confident that our dog was being well cared for. She really seemed to enjoy being with him! We came home to a clean and orderly house. 5 Stars all around!!!”

About: I’ve grown up with dogs all my life. Now, I have a cat, and I would love to spend some time with your puppers and also take a load off your plate! I used to walk dogs through Wag, so I’m accustomed to meeting and befriending new dogs very quickly. My schedule is pretty flexible, and I’d love to hang out with your pups! All services up to two dogs. Dog walking: I’ll walk your dog(s) for 30-60 minutes. My parents’ dog is not very well socialized, so I know how to keep an anxious dog comfortable and under control. Drop-Ins: I’ll feed your dog, take them out, and play with them for a while - whatever you request! House-sitting: All of the above PLUS I’ll stay overnight, water your plants, and bring in your mail. I work in theater on a freelance basis, so I often find myself with a lot of free time. Help me fill it with some pet care! I own my own cat, so I am unable to take your pets into my own home. However, I am happy to visit or stay in your home to care for your pets.
“Matt was amazing with my pack and I would book him again in a heartbeat. We rescued my dog from an abusive household and he still can be very nervous around new people. Matt was amazing with him, he was in great hands and I was quickly no longer nervous about leaving my little guy. He was very communicative and my house was spotless when we came home. I would highly recommend Matt for your pet sitting needs!”

“June was a delight and our cat absolutely loved her. She was so attentive and sent us updates and pictures the entire time. Our cat can be picky around food and settling in and she was so comfortable with June. Additionally, June accommodated our schedule and needs so well. Could not be more grateful and will be contacting her for ALL of our future cat needs 💕💕”

“Julia is amazing. Consistent, and truly at one with my Larry guy. She’s easy going and thorough and thoughtful and even brought special treats for my babes for day one. Highly highly recommend!!”

“Trula was great! She was so great with our dog and did a good job of sending updates and photos. I would definitely recommend her services if you are looking for a dog sitter! Thanks, Trula!!! :)”

“I cannot recommend Marc enough! Leaving our pets is always stressful, but Marc took such incredible care of them that it felt like they were on vacation too. They were attentive to our pets’ specific routines and sent the best daily photo updates, which allowed me to completely relax on our trip. I will definitely be using them again!”

“I'm not sure how many times I can say how amazing Anastasiya is. I feel so lucky to have found her! She's great with Carl and I always come back to a home that is perfect. This particular time, we had some issues with timing due to my flights and she was very flexible, making sure Carl got the care he needed. I will hire her every time I can! Thank you, Anastasiya!”

“Freya did a great job making us feel comfortable with our kitty while we were out of town. She was very good at communicating with updates and pictures and kept the house nice and clean. Would definitely recommend”

“We have enjoyed Amy so much when she stays and takes care of our dog, Meggie! Meggie is a sweet girl, but has high anxiety. Amy does so well with her and gets her to calm down and cuddle with her. I recommend Amy highly, can’t wait to have her back!”
“Adeline was great with our dog Rex and was very respectful of our home! She left everything super clean and Rex enjoyed his time with her. She was thorough with his care instructions too. We will definitely use Adeline as a dog sitter again!”

“A pet sitting angel! I was freaking out because of a last minute cancellation from another sitter, but Alex came to my rescue and took over the booking. Turns out that the other sitter cancelling was the best thing that could have happened because Alex is everything I could ever want from a sitter. They were incredibly responsive to my messages, they gave frequent updates throughout the day complete with photos, they administered medication to both my cats, they went above and beyond to even clean up the place while I was away…but most importantly, my boys seemed to absolutely adore them! Absolutely a 10/10 ✨”

“Ian and Susan were just fabulous. Ian spent the most time at our home and sent daily reports and lots of pictures. Finley had recently had surgery so needed close supervision. He was so well taken care of! We liked that Ian introduced him to some new places and experiences. Ian took great care of our house as well and it was nice and clean when we returned. We highly recommend them as sitters and will happily rebook them when the opportunity arises. Finley was sad to see Ian go!”

“Kate was great with Royal. Here’s warmed right up to her, and she was very thoughtful with him. She was also really communicative leading up to the appointment, which I appreciated greatly. Would have her back in an instant.”

“Alex is incredible! My dog Bear is usually aggressive with new people, but he warmed up to Alex immediately, which speaks volumes about his calm and trustworthy energy. He followed all instructions perfectly and kept us updated the whole time. Coming home to a vacuumed house and fresh sheets on the bed was such a thoughtful, unexpected touch. We will 100% be booking Alex again and can’t recommend him enough!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Durham
Laura got us out of a bind with a different sitter who cancelled a meet and greet three times. In a bind, we reached out to Laura and she quickly confirmed that she was available. We were not able to do a meet and greet but felt great with the communication back and forth throughout the stay. She left the place clean and our dog had been well snuggled.

Taryn was absolutely incredible, and we truly cannot recommend her enough 🤍🐾 From the moment we met her, she was kind, thoughtful, communicative, and clearly cared so much about our girls. She kept us updated with tons of sweet photos and messages throughout the stay, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. One of the sweetest parts for us was seeing how comfortable our Riley became with her. Riley can be slow to warm up to new people, so seeing her rolling over for belly rubs and fully relaxing with Taryn honestly brought so much joy to our hearts. It was so clear our girls felt safe, loved, and genuinely cared for with her. Taryn went above and beyond, handled everything with so much care, and was incredibly attentive and reassuring the entire time. We already shared her profile with one of our best friends and will absolutely continue recommending her to others because she is truly such a genuine, caring person. The girls adored her, and we cannot wait to book with her again 🤍🐶🐕🐾

Melissa and her wife, Leslie, were amazing with our senior dog!! They came over to meet her ahead of time and I felt so comfortable leaving her in their care. They sent me regular updates and left the house very clean for our return. Will absolutely use them again in the future!

This was our first time using Marisa. We appreciated her prompt response when we reached out. She was very personable, on time and asked good questions during our meet and greet. We have two dogs and two cats and they warmed up to her quickly. During her stay, she was very communicative and sent lots of photos, which was great. When we got home, the house was picked up and clean. She did a great job and we would definitely hire her again.

If you're ever unsure of leaving your animals, just leave it to Enya! She is a rockstar and we are so relieved to have found a petsitter that takes care of our babies as her own. Our rescue dog has high anxiety when separated from her humans, and we were nervous leaving her for the first time. She took a few days to warm up but Enya was gentle, patient, and considerate of her space and boundaries. By day two, our dog came around. Our cats absolutely adored her from the start and seemed to get along better for her than they ever have for us! Enya kept us updated on the regular and is quick to respond / shift care as needed. Our place was left exactly as she found it, and she even went above and beyond to make our animals' spots around the house even cozier. No need to look further, Enya is your girl!

Chelsea was absolutely AMAZING! This was really my first time ever having a dog sitter watch my dog and she brought me so much comfort with her daily updates and letting me know how everything was going! I love receiving all the pictures while I was on my trip and would absolutely have her watch my pup again!

Anastasiya was phenomenal. She watched our home and herd of animals for us while we were out of town. She went above and beyond with caring for our fur babies. She was in communication and sent regular updates keeping our minds at ease. What a joy and gift to have found her. Xoxoxo

Cheyenne was fabulous with our pets. First, I was so impressed with how quickly she warmed up to our furry boys- you could immediately tell she knows what she's doing and cares. I'm pretty detailed, so I leave a lot of lists and to-do's and she followed them all. She sent regular updates with amazing photos, checked in with any questions, and left our house spotless. You could tell that she appreciates how hard it is to hand your very-loved pets and house over to a near stranger. She worked hard to win our trust, and it was very relieving. We'll definitely use her again!
Regan is incredible! She provided me with daily updates and photos which made my day. She kept my dog and cat so happy and entertained. They just love her so much! Plus she left our house so clean. We are so grateful to have her as our go-to so please don't book her when we need her 😆. Highly recommend!

FAQs for House Sitting - Durham
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Durham on Rover is $61.05 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Durham walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Durham maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Durham choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Durham. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
