“Peter was very understanding and attentive to our dog’s personality and highly communicative with us. He followed all the specific care requests we shared perfectly. Our dog and home were so well cared for during the dog / house sitting stay. We would highly recommend Peter as a dog / house sitter.”

“I felt comfortable with Yvette right from the start. She is personable and knowledgeable about dogs and my pet Dallas liked her immediately. I had her stay overnight for a week while on vacation. Yvette sent me daily updates and pictures, and even watered my plants. My mother lives downstairs and hit it off with Yvette as well altogether. I am happy to recommend her and will definitely be using when I travel next year.”

“Tatiana was wonderful with our puppy! She was caring, playful, and very knowledgeable. She not only followed all of our requests but also went above and beyond with her own thoughtful touches. We felt completely at ease knowing our pup was in her hands”

“Hiring Danielle to house sit our dog was definitely the right decision for my family. She is warm, responsible, attentive and reliable! She was great at keeping us up to date with what was going on with our fur baby and would respond promptly when a message was sent to her. When we got home our house was in great condition and our dog was thriving! She even left a show about birds on for him until we got home! 100/10 would definitely recommend and will be using her again!”

“Jalisa was fantastic! She took great care of our dogs. We have a new rescue puppy who is very scared of people and he warmed right up to Jalisa. And when my work unexpectedly asked me to stay an extra night, Jalisa was so accommodating and extended our booking by a night.”

“Maryann was great with my German Shepherd. He's been going through some separation from me and his sister and she was attentive by his side. She cleaned up well after him as well and made sure he got walked or went to the doggy park. I would contact her again.”

“Cheryl was fantastic with communication and care for my two doodles. We asked for overnight stays since the second doodle is still a puppy and not yet potty trained. I loved the photo and video updates. Cheryl was very communicative and asked great questions. Looking forward to reaching out to her again for future trips.”

“We are so grateful for the amazing care Alexandra gave our pets over Thanksgiving! She stayed in our home for a full week to look after our Rottie, Mini Schnauzer, and kitty, and she truly went above and beyond. She even checked in to ask if she could give them a little turkey on the holiday ~ which they were very excited about! Alexandra sent us pictures throughout our trip, giving us so much peace of mind, and we returned to three happy, relaxed animals. She also left our home clean and well cared for, which we deeply appreciated after traveling. We were extremely pleased with her service and will definitely be using her again in the future. Highly recommend! She also left our home clean and well cared for, which we deeply appreciated after a long trip. About: I started my experience dog walking 2 years ago for a professor’s friend in Winchester, Virginia. Twice a week, I would walk her hyper pups. She then recommended me to her father, whose dog I began walking twice a week as well. From there, my mini business boomed through word of mouth. I began dog sitting in people’s homes as well for multiple individuals for varying time spans. Most of the dogs I interacted with were seniors and required extensive care. However, all dogs owners loved and recommended me to others! I still walk the original dogs and add in others as my schedule allows with two other jobs. I am sad to leave my extensive clientele in Winchester, but I am moving back to New Jersey for graduate school and excited to meet new puppy friends!! For the summertime, I am incredibly flexible with nothing planned. I prefer weekly walks / drop ins, but also like sitting as well. In August, I start physical therapy school at Columbia University so my availability will decrease but I’d be willing to provide services on nights / weekends. During breaks, my availability will open up again! Whenever walking / sitting, I respect the owner’s rules, no matter what. I long to maintain utmost cleanliness and adherence to routine as physically possible. I am also very communicative and honest, building trust with my clients.

When taking care of your pet, big or small, I make sure they are comfortable and happy. As a dog lover, safety is a number one priority. I look forward to working with you and your pets! I have a very flexible schedule, especially in the summer. I am available and free for several weekdays, and would love to spend time taking care of your pet. I have a fenced in yard, perfect for allowing your dog to run around outside without worry of street access. I also prioritize using a secure leash in areas with other people and streets.
About: I've worked via Rover for about six months (as of mid-July '26) -- during which time I've had many highly-satisfied customers, both recurring and one-time. I have cared for a wide range of dogs, from a massive greyhound to an uncharacteristically aggressive male lab to a 20-year-old miniature requiring loving TLC. Prior to Rover, I've taken care of two family dogs who became family members, one of which I rescued from a neglectful owner. I was a hands-on dad to my son (now grown), got him the care he needed to survive and thrive as a preemie, and as a single parent knew well how to feed and change him and care for him when he was sick. As a senior, I have the experience and "seasoning" to know what's important, whether it's an infant or child or a family dog or a person with a disability or a senior like myself. So I know how to see to it that the one in my care is well cared for, happy, and loved. Since the condo development where my wife and I live doesn't allow dogs, I take special pleasure in spending time with them at every opportunity. I come from a long line of dog lovers on my dad's side, and I proudly carry on that tradition. I keep as active as the vicissitudes of age allow, and currently am able to hike, play pickleball, and have recently returned to tennis, 5K runs, and kayaking. That fitness enables me to have what it takes to care for dogs of all ages and stages. I'm a retiree who does part-time volunteer work, both hands-on with elementary-school-aged children and legislative and policy advocacy on behalf of folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My other major activities are staying in shape and learning a foreign language. These part-time gigs, and the fact that my wife works part-time, leave me enough time to do some pet care. I cannot care for pets in my home, or for that matter have a dog, because the condo development where I live does not permit dogs. I care for dogs in their owner's homes, following their owners' lead, so to speak, and according to their owners' directives. Fortunately, this means that the dogs I care for, who know their way around their own turf, do not need to adjust to new environs. As a guest myself, I am naturally inclined to treat the home where I find myself with extra care and respect, more so than I would my own home.
About: I have had my beagle for over 9 years now and have trained him, as well as walk and feed him! He means the world to me, I have also babysat while watching two golden labs! I love dogs of all sizes, breeds, personalities, etc! I am currently volunteering at a senior home so my schedule is mostly open for night walks or home check ins more towards the evenings/night! My availability is more flexible on the weekends, so please feel free to reach out and ask! When I know I am going to be out for a good amount of time, my beagle does go in a crate so I am capable of doing that if preferred!
About: I’ve been a dog lover since I was 7 years old when my family got a puppy who we raised and loved for 11 years. I’m experienced with everything from energetic puppies to senior dogs who need a little extra patience and care. Over the years, neighbors, friends, and family have trusted me to walk, feed, play with, and watch their dogs and cats while they’re away. I genuinely love dogs of every size and personality, and I treat every pet like they’re my own with lots of attention and care I work full-time during the week, but I’m available most evenings after work for walks, drop-ins, and sitting. I’m fully available all day on weekends and have added flexibility on Fridays, making it easy to accommodate longer stays or last-minute needs. I always prioritize your pet’s safety, comfort, and routine, whether I’m caring for them in your home or mine. I closely follow feeding, walking, and medication instructions, keep a clean and secure environment, and give pets plenty of attention and supervision. I’m respectful of your space and make sure your pet feels calm, safe, and well cared for at all times.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Dumont
We couldn't have asked for a better experience, Peter took awesome care of our shorthaired pointer Jeri while we were away for the day. She was recovering from an injury and he was incredibly attentive and thoughtful about her care, which we appreciated so much. He kept us updated throughout the day with messages and photos, communicated really well, and was genuinely kind and easy to work with. It was obvious he really cared about Jeri and enjoyed spending time with her too. We'd recommend Peter 100% to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and caring to watch their pet and we'll definitely be reaching out again in the future- hopefully he'll be available!! Thanks again for taking such great care of Jeri!

Amanda took exceptional care of our 17½-year-old dog, who requires very specialized care and definitely isn’t easy. From the moment we left, she provided compassionate, attentive care and kept us updated with thoughtful texts and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind. When we returned home, our dog was happy, comfortable, and clearly very well cared for. On top of that, our house was immaculate. We are beyond appreciative of Amanda’s kindness, professionalism, and dedication. It’s not easy to find someone you can fully trust with an elderly pet, and we are so grateful to have found her. Highly recommend!

Nicole is the most caring, kind, respectful, and sweet dog sitter ever. She sends photos of the dogs and communicates all day! She makes it so much easier to leave our 2 mini dachshund puppies at home while we are at work knowing we have an amazing person taking care of them. Nicole goes above and beyond to provide the best care to our babies and we will absolutely be using her again for dog/ house sitting. She is the very best of the best!

Hiring Danielle to house sit our dog was definitely the right decision for my family. She is warm, responsible, attentive and reliable! She was great at keeping us up to date with what was going on with our fur baby and would respond promptly when a message was sent to her. Emily was a wonderful Rover sitter! She watched our dog for a few hours, kept in constant contact, and Shayna absolutely loved her (as evidenced by a super sweet photo of Shayna sleeping on her lap!) We will definitely be reaching out to Emily again in the future.

FAQs for House Sitting - Dumont
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Dumont on Rover is $88.8 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 18,834 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Dumont. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Dumont walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Dumont maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Dumont choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Dumont. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
