Danielle was just amazing! She was house sitting for us and took wonderful care of our 13-year-old dog and 2-year-old cat, giving them lots of love and attention while we were away. She kept us updated regularly, which allowed us to enjoy a worry-free vacation. I would definitely ask for her help on our next trip. Highly recommended!

Lesly is the best!!!!! I’m so glad we found her. Our boys are normally very slow to warm up to new people but with Lesly, they were cuddled on the sofa and playing within minutes. She left our home spotless and was so attentive to our boys’ needs. We hope that she’ll be a regular sitter for us!

Dawn and her son Adam were professional and fabulous from our very first communication with them about house- and dog-sitting for us. Adam and Finn took to each other immediately, we felt entirely comfortable leaving Finn in Adam’s capable hands, and it was obvious to us upon our return that Adam had taken immaculate care of both Finn and our home for the week we were away. We look forward to having Adam come back to stay with Finn soon. Thank you both so much!

I currently share my home with a 14 y.o. Maltese, so I have a soft spot for seniors and know how to care for dogs at every life stage. My clients describe me as reliable, compassionate, and trustworthy, and I take pride in always showing up as scheduled. I’d love to meet your pup and answer any questions you have. Their happiness is the whole point! I’m a recent graduate from Virginia Tech’s agricultural & applied economics masters program. I have full availability to care for your pet(s), including holidays and weekends. Safety is of utmost importance to me. I understand that each pet has unique needs and preferences. If necessary, I am experienced in crate training and can provide a secure and comfortable space for your dog if you prefer them to be crated while I am caring for them. I am diligent in following any specific safety instructions or guidelines you provide to ensure your pet's safety at all times. Trust is the foundation of a successful pet caretaker-client relationship. You can trust that I will provide the highest level of care and attention to your pet, just as if they were my own. Creating a comfortable environment for your pet is crucial for their well-being. I understand that some pets have specific preferences or routines, and I am committed to maintaining those while you're away. If you request that your dog be kept off furniture, I will ensure they adhere to that rule. I will follow any specific instructions you provide regarding feeding, playtime, or any other routines your pet requires. By maintaining a familiar and comfortable environment, I aim to reduce any stress or anxiety your pet may experience in your absence. In addition to safety, trust, and comfort, I also pay close attention to the overall environment in your home. I am mindful of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards during my stay. About: I’ve had experience taking care of dogs since I was 13. Aside from caring from my own dog, I have care for the dogs (and cats!) of family and friends, walking them, dog sitting at their homes, or dropping for walks, feeding and play time. I’ve had plenty of experience working with puppies and senior dogs, particularly with my own dog who experienced many health issues in his older years. I work from home, and have a relatively flexible schedule. That being said, my availability is largely after 3pm during the weekdays or mornings and afternoons on Saturdays, but I am able to drop in visits and walks during the day as well, schedule allowing! I typically care for pets in the pet parents home based on the pet parents guidelines. I like to ask pet parents as many questions as possible to make sure I try to maintain as close a routine as possible for the pet while they are in my care. This include walking and feeding schedules, how much playtime and what kind of playtime is allowed/encouraged, and any other specifics I should know about how to care for the pet (medication, where they sleep, how they interact with other dogs/pets, etc.)

Theo did an excellent job taking care of our cats. We booked him to house sit our two cats while we were away for nine days. He followed all of our instructions, and we came home to happy cats. He has a deep understanding of cat psychology, and he spent a ton of time interacting with our cats. We really appreciate him going above and beyond and will be booking him again!

About: Hi everyone! My name is Maria and I’m a lifelong dog lover with hands-on experience caring for dogs. For three years, I worked as a dog walker in New York City, where I cared for multiple dogs daily, handled different temperaments, and made sure every pup got the exercise, attention, and love they needed. After recently purchasing a home in New Jersey, I now have plenty of space to welcome dogs into a safe and comfortable environment. I have a large half fenced backyard for playtime, and I’m also a proud dog mom to Pipoca, my mini long-haired Dachshund puppy. I understand how important it is to trust someone with your furry family member. Whether your dog loves long walks, playtime, cuddles, or simply relaxing, I’ll make sure they receive lots of attention, affection, and personalized care while you’re away. My goal is to make your dog feel right at home and give you peace of mind knowing they’re in loving hands. If you prefer that your dog is taken care from your home, I can drive to you as well. What sets me apart is my culture and the way I was raised. As a Brazilian American, caring for others comes naturally to me, and I treat every dog as if they were part of my own family. I believe pets deserve not only the basics food, walks, and supervision, but also affection, patience, companionship, and lots of love. When your dog stays with me, they’ll be welcomed into my home and cared for like one of my own. ❤️ Pet care fits perfectly into my daily and weekly routine. My husband is currently the only one working, which allows me to dedicate my full time and attention to caring for furry friends. This will be my full-time job, and I have a very flexible schedule that allows me to provide consistent care, walks, potty breaks, playtime, and supervision throughout the day. I already structure my day around my own puppy, Pipoca, so caring for dogs is a natural part of my lifestyle. I truly enjoy being home, being present, and making sure each dog feels safe, loved, and well cared for. I always adapt my care to the owner’s instructions and each dog’s unique personality and needs. Some dogs love lots of attention, playtime, and interaction, while others prefer a calmer space and more independence, I fully respect both. In my home, I have a large yard which is great for safe playtime and potty breaks, and I also enjoy going on walks and spending time outside with the dogs. I love engaging with them through play and affection, but I’m just as happy providing a calm, quiet environment for dogs who aren’t as social or energetic. My goal is always to make each dog feel comfortable, safe, and cared for in the way that suits them best, while following the owner’s routine as closely as possible.

I booked a date with Esther and Jay so we could meet each other. I also thought it would give my cat an opportunity to become familiar with them. They arrived exactly on day and time we planned. Esther and Jay are warm and friendly and I found them a joy to have in my home. They asked good questions and I knew they would be wonderful caretakers for my cat. Now if I have to travel, I know my cat and my home will be well looked after.

Alexandra took good care of our fur baby, Bootsie, while we are away. She made sure that Bootsie gets his meds on time, provided the attention and care he needs. She keeps him company and gave him the treats occasionally. Alexandra also learned about administering the subcutaneous fluid injection on Bootsie daily - a new skill that should be added in her resume. Bootsie is grateful for Alexandra's company and for providing him the tender loving care in our absence.

About: I've been taking care of dogs since I was 10 when I got my dog. I joined Rover 3 years ago and have experience walking, feeding, playing with, and caring for various types of dogs. I care for every dog as if they're my own! I just got home from college and am looking to make some money as I take a remote class this summer. That being said, my schedule is pretty open and flexible! I am very respectful of other's spaces and make sure to follow instructions carefully. I pay attention to detail and am a high energy individual. I truly love dogs so much and am happy to help take care of them when owners' lives get busy.

About: I had a 5-pound poodle toy who passed away at the beginning of this year. I adopted him with a lot of health problem and I took a great care of them for 14 years, specially at the last three years that was more difficult due to his age and all the health problems that got more intense. My boyfriend who lives with me works at Vet Emergency Group, so we know the technique to take care of dogs, giving them medicine and deal with them under any circumstances. I am currently working at home everyday. So I have full time to take care of your dog, play with them and walk them in a very green and peaceful area. We live in a condominium with a lots of space, with green area at the back. The surrounding area is very calm and pleasant for your dog. Moreover, my boyfriend who lives with me works at the Vet Emergency Group as a veterinary assistant, so we know how to take care of your dog very well!

We couldn't have asked for a better experience, Peter took awesome care of our shorthaired pointer Jeri while we were away for the day. She was recovering from an injury and he was incredibly attentive and thoughtful about her care, which we appreciated so much. He kept us updated throughout the day with messages and photos, communicated really well, and was genuinely kind and easy to work with. It was obvious he really cared about Jeri and enjoyed spending time with her too. We'd recommend Peter 100% to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and caring to watch their pet and we'll definitely be reaching out again in the future- hopefully he'll be available!! Thanks again for taking such great care of Jeri!

Amanda took exceptional care of our 17½-year-old dog, who requires very specialized care and definitely isn’t easy. From the moment we left, she provided compassionate, attentive care and kept us updated with thoughtful texts and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind. When we returned home, our dog was happy, comfortable, and clearly very well cared for. On top of that, our house was immaculate. We are beyond appreciative of Amanda’s kindness, professionalism, and dedication. It’s not easy to find someone you can fully trust with an elderly pet, and we are so grateful to have found her. Highly recommend!

She was great at keeping us up to date with what was going on with our fur baby and would respond promptly when a message was sent to her. When we got home our house was in great condition and our dog was thriving! She even left a show about birds on for him until we got home! 100/10 would definitely recommend and will be using her again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Cresskill

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Cresskill on Rover is $99.9 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 18,863 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Cresskill. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Cresskill walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Cresskill maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Cresskill choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Cresskill. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
