About: I’ve been a dog owner for years and have cared for pups at every stage of life—from energetic puppies to senior dogs who needed extra patience, gentleness, and consistency. I’ve raised one dog through his puppy years and lovingly supported two others through their golden years, so I’m comfortable with training basics, routines, mobility changes, medications, and slower-paced walks when needed. Over the years, friends have trusted me with their dogs while they travel, and now that I have more space in my home—and a large, fully fenced yard—I’m excited to do this regularly. My dog, Ochosi, and I love getting outside for long walks and hikes, and I’m happy to tailor activity levels to each dog’s age, energy, and needs—whether that means an adventurous trail day or a cozy afternoon of cuddles. As a bonus, my roommate is also a longtime dog lover and former dog owner, so your pup will get extra attention and affection beyond just me and Ochosi. Between our household, your dog will be surrounded by care, play, and consistency while you’re away. As an empowerment coach, I work mostly from home, which allows me to be present with the dogs I care for throughout the day. I do have occasional workshops, classes, and client visits that take me out of the house part-time, but I always plan my schedule carefully so pups get plenty of attention, potty breaks, walks, and companionship. Whether caring for your dog in my home or yours, I focus on keeping routines consistent, energy balanced, and tails wagging. I tailor walks, playtime, and downtime to each pup’s age and personality—from adventurous hikes to gentle strolls and cozy evenings. With a big fenced yard for safe outdoor play, plenty of affection from me, Ochosi, and my dog-loving roommate, and regular photo updates for you, your dog will feel secure, happy, and right at home.

Danielle was just amazing! She was house sitting for us and took wonderful care of our 13-year-old dog and 2-year-old cat, giving them lots of love and attention while we were away. She kept us updated regularly, which allowed us to enjoy a worry-free vacation. I would definitely ask for her help on our next trip. Highly recommended!

About: I have lifelong experience raising and caring for pets, including raising my own Akita from 9 weeks old up to 14 years. Navigating his senior years gave me deep, hands-on experience with elder pet care and specialized needs. I've also raised a second Akita, care for a cat, and have professional experience working at a doggy daycare kennel. I am incredibly responsible, attentive, and passionate about giving every animal the dedicated care they deserve! I work full-time as a school paraprofessional and get off work at 3:30 PM. This means my late afternoons and evenings are completely dedicated to dog walking, drop-in visits, and cat care! I am also fully free and available all day on weekends for flexible pet sitting. Here is a ready-to-use paragraph for that **"Safety, trust & environment"** section in **image_3.png**! It combines your responsible background, your experience with both dogs and cats, and exactly how you'll care for their homes: > "When caring for pets in your home, safety, structure, and respect are my absolute top priorities. Because of my background, I am highly reliable, detail-oriented, and excellent at maintaining consistent routines to keep your pets feeling safe and stress-free. I have personal experience managing a multi-pet home with both a dog and a cat, so I know exactly how to keep everyone happy and secure. I strictly follow all feeding, walking, and household instructions, ensure all doors and gates are locked tight, and will always leave your home clean and respected.

I would highly recommend Asel as a pet sitter. She is considerate, responsible, reliable and wonderful with animals. Asel stayed in our home for 11 nights and took care of our dog and cat. Our cat is very easy, but our dog is a fairly new rescue who is a scared dog and often does not want to go outside for walks. Asel was very patient and bonded very quickly with both animals. She sent us pictures and updates every day during our trip. We came home to 2 very happy animals and our home was just as we left it!

Pete is one of the best dog sitters I've ever worked with. He's very much a dog person and had an intuitive sense for how my dog Bandit was doing. He was very effective in taking care of Bandits' needs including some special medical foods and procedures required. And he's flexible -- he was able to also take care of my daughter's dog Brandy for some of the time while he was also taking care of Bandit. He also is an effective communicator and regularly sent us texts and pictures, as well as knowing when to ask questions if there might be a problem that arose. He's just very good. I highly recommend Pete (although please don't hire him when I need him). Thanks.

About: I will ensure your pet will get exercise and love when they are with me. I will play with toys, and give them endless belly rubs. I walk my dogs frequently throughout the day. I play with them as much as they want to play, and I give them lots of love and attention. I do this for all of my family members’ and friends’ pets as well, whenever I care for them. I am available to start caring for your pets today up until July 1st, which is when I will be getting my work schedule for my nursing career. After that, I am willing to work around my nursing schedule to care for your fur babies. I have a 3 year old mini Goldendoodle and a 12 year old golden retriever. I take them on multiple walks through out the day, feed them twice daily, ensure they have enough exercise and give them lots of love and play time. I will do the same for your family pets!

Esther and Jay are warm and friendly and I found them a joy to have in my home. They asked good questions and I knew they would be wonderful caretakers for my cat. Now if I have to travel, I know my cat and my home will be well looked after.

Danielle was absolutely wonderful. We have 2 German Shepards one working line and young that has a lot of energy and 6 year old large showline male who needs a moment to settle before being introduced. She listened to how we help him feel comfortable and within moments he was relaxed around her. She asks great questions to be sure your pets have everything they need. We also have a 15 yr old cat and she was great at spending quality time with him as well. She is an excellent communicator, gets back to you promptly, took amazing care of our home while we were out. We felt so at peace knowing she was there with them and she made sure they had a great time too. We are so grateful we found Danielle and look forward to her caring for our pets again!

We couldn't have asked for a better experience, Peter took awesome care of our shorthaired pointer Jeri while we were away for the day. She was recovering from an injury and he was incredibly attentive and thoughtful about her care, which we appreciated so much. He kept us updated throughout the day with messages and photos, communicated really well, and was genuinely kind and easy to work with. It was obvious he really cared about Jeri and enjoyed spending time with her too. We'd recommend Peter 100% to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and caring to watch their pet and we'll definitely be reaching out again in the future- hopefully he'll be available!! Amanda took exceptional care of our 17½-year-old dog, who requires very specialized care and definitely isn’t easy. When we returned home, our dog was happy, comfortable, and clearly very well cared for. On top of that, our house was immaculate. FAQs for House Sitting - Bergenfield

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Bergenfield on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 18,978 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Bergenfield. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Bergenfield walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Bergenfield maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Bergenfield choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Bergenfield. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
