“I was really pleased with Ty and Charlie. Their setup worked extremely well for our very Velcro-needy guy. I was initially a little hesitant about having two people watching him, simply because we’d never had a couple before, but if you’re on the fence like I was, don’t pass them up — it worked perfectly for us. They arrived on time for both the meet-and-greet and the sitting job, and they checked in to confirm the times I had listed before coming and when they were scheduled to leave. Our guy is very routine-oriented, and they followed my detailed instructions (yes, I’m that parent!) to a tee — including giving his meds on time, which was huge for us since some past sitters have struggled with that. I truly couldn’t have asked for better sitters; they’re probably my favorite so far. I’ll absolutely continue to use them and am already working to see if they’re available to sit for us again. I would definitely recommend them to others. Thank you both so much for taking such great care of him!”

About: I’ve owned and cared for dogs my entire life, giving me 15 years of hands-on experience across all breeds and sizes. From large, powerful breeds like Rottweilers, Pitbulls, and Great Danes to spirited Schnauzers and my current 4-year-old French Bulldog, I understand how to adjust my care to every dog's unique personality and energy level. Whether your pup needs confident, experienced handling on walks or gentle, focused attention, safety and comfort are always my top priorities. Pet care is my top priority! I manage my schedule carefully to ensure every dog gets full attention, frequent bathroom breaks, and daily exercise. Whether you need drop-in visits, walks, or house sitting, I have flexible availability to match your dog's exact daily routine. Having raised dogs my whole life—from large breeds like Great Danes and Pitbulls to smaller pups like my Frenchie—I prioritize safety above all else. In your home, I keep the environment secure, strictly follow all feeding and leash protocols, and provide frequent updates and photos so you have total peace of mind.
“Erica was great! She was great with my dogs and constantly updated me. I came home to a clean house and happy dogs. Thanks so much Erica and hope we can use you again!”

“Melissa was great and Rocky loved her! This was my first time using Rover and I was nervous but Melissa eased my mind. Not being used to “strangers” staying with him, Rocky had some separation anxiety. Melissa was very straightforward about it and kept me updated the whole time. I made some suggestions and she tried them all. I would love to have Melissa stay with Rocky again if she’s interested.”

“Dominique was fantastic. She arrived on time to accommodate a last-minute request. She was very friendly and took good care of my dogs. I look forward to working with her again.”

“Cathy is reliable and communicates well. She is also accommodating. I had a last minute change of plans and needed her to dog sit for one extra night. She was flexible and agreed to extend her time.”

About: I have had pets all my life. I started helping take care of my cat and dogs at around 10 years old. I help out with my friends and extended family members pets as well. My dog takes medication in the morning so I can administer medication if needed. She has also gone through two surgeries so I can help during pet recovery as well. I’ve had hyperactive dogs as well as territorial/ toy-aggressive dogs and know how to deal with them. I have also had dogs who needed extra care due to being old. I do know a little bit about training dogs but not much. I work part time and go to college full time. However, I live at home with my parents so I can fit pet care into my schedule. I have a fenced backyard for my dog to run around or just lay outside. I walk her 2/3 times a day and she gets fed twice a day, morning and evening. I also spend a lot of time with her whether it’s playing around or just watching tv. If I am caring for someone else’s pets, I feed the pets and play with them as well as hang out with them.
“Tiffany was absolutely amazing with my two puppies! She handled them with so much patience and care, keeping me completely at ease while I was away. I really appreciated the regular updates and photos she sent — it made me feel confident they were in great hands. Tiffany went above and beyond, and I’ll definitely be booking with her again in the future!”

“Kelly was absolutely amazing looking after our golden retriever, Frank. She took the most fantastic care of him and sent us frequent updates with pictures and videos, always keeping us in the loop with how he’s doing. We felt such peace that Frank was being loved and cared for while we were away, and Kelly went over and above our expectations. We couldn’t recommend Kelly enough, and we are so grateful for everything she has done for us and Frank.”
“Paige was amazing with our dogs! She sent us tons of pictures and was in communication with us the entire time she was with our pups. Paige could definitely tell how nervous I was to leave my pups with someone new and she helped ease my fears through this whole process. She was a respectful house guest and left our home neat and tidy. My pups love her and so do we. Will be booking all my future Rovers with her!!”

I enjoy having the company of dogs in my home and having the chance to make them all feel right at home with my family. Your fur baby will feel very spoiled in my home. I love working with all dogs.

“Meghan was an awesome sitter! She took such great care of our dog, cat, and house! She left the house spotless and communicated with us throughout our trip. Would highly recommend her!”

“Shaun did an amazing job! He followed all of our directions, kept us updated, and took great care of Lex while we were away. Lex was very happy, comfortable, and clearly well cared for when we got home. We really appreciated the attention and care he gave our dog and home. We would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter!”

William did a great job house sitting for our pup Willie and our family bunny for a week. He was attentive and responsive, periodically sharing updates. He was flexible too. He came back the evening and night after the scheduled services ended due to a mistake on my part. Super appreciative of that.

Fantastic dog sitter! Emily kept our home spotless, followed all instructions carefully, and gave our dog so much love and attention. We received regular updates and photos, which gave us real peace of mind while we were away. Our dog was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for when we returned. Reliable, trustworthy, and highly recommended — we would absolutely book Emily again!
Taylor did a great job house sitting for our energetic puppy and 3 cats. She was reliable, responsive, and took great care of our house and pets. She even taught our puppy to sit while we were away! Our pup is still working on potty training and Taylor was up to the challenge and cleaned up her accidents without an issue. I would definitely recommend Taylor for house sitting and plan to rebook with her in the future!

Caitlin did an amazing job house sitting and taking care of Holly! From the start, communication was great, and we felt completely at ease leaving Holly (and our home) in her care. She kept us updated with regular check-ins and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away.

Our family is so thankful for Noe and the way he cared for Max and Holly while we were away. From the very start, he was warm, professional, and dependable, which gave us complete peace of mind. Noe made sure both dogs felt comfortable and loved, and he handled their different needs with so much patience and attention. Max requires a little extra care, and Noe took the time to make sure his routine was followed, while also giving Holly plenty of playtime and affection. We received regular updates and could see how happy and relaxed they both were in his care. It meant the world to our family knowing that Max and Holly were safe and cared for like they were his own. We would absolutely recommend Noe to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate sitter. We’ll definitely be booking with him again!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Dumfries walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Dumfries maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Dumfries choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Dumfries. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
