“Melissa was great and Rocky loved her! This was my first time using Rover and I was nervous but Melissa eased my mind. Not being used to “strangers” staying with him, Rocky had some separation anxiety. Melissa was very straightforward about it and kept me updated the whole time. I made some suggestions and she tried them all. I would love to have Melissa stay with Rocky again if she’s interested.”

“She was great with my 16 year old dog which takes patience and love. My pup sammie seemed so happy when I returned from my trip which filled me with piece of mind. I’ll definitely book in the future.”

“Deborah was absolutely wonderful when she house sat for us while we were out of town! Our Great Dane loved her and our house was in better shape than when we left! 10/10 recommend and will be using her again in the future!!”
“McKenna was so great! She really paid attention to every little detail about our 2 pups and took amazing care of them while we were away. She sent lots of pics and updates and was also super flexible and understanding when our flight got delayed! We will absolutely book her again!”

“Cathy is reliable and communicates well. She is also accommodating. I had a last minute change of plans and needed her to dog sit for one extra night. She was flexible and agreed to extend her time.”

“Ty was very responsive to our requests for updates and the dogs seemed loved and well cared for. Our fish died while we were gone and Ty helped take it out and dispose of it. The house was clean and as we left it upon our return”

“Grant and Yunrui took such a good care of my anxious and high energy dog. They walked her, let her sleep with them and sent lots of updates and cute photos. Coco seemed very relaxed and happy when we came back. They followed our long list of instructions very well. I will most definitely rebook them to take care of Coco.”

“Tara showed great care to our three dogs over a long weekend stay! She sent pictures and videos frequently and we never wondered how our dogs were doing. Great communication and warmth! The dogs loved her!”

“Vanessa stayed with my very spoiled Yorkies during my recent overnight trip. One of my little guys likes to be fed by hand and she accommodated him. She also took them outside in the middle of the night when they asked to go out. Both of my boys were happy and playful when I returned.”

“Look no further, you’ve found the fantastic duo of dog sitting! Hire them and you will not be disappointed. We have three very different rescue dogs. We were very nervous to leave our fur babies, especially because two are recovering from surgery. Hue and Anna put as at ease and when we got home, our dogs were happy, healthy, and sleepy (love it!). They also sent us adorable pictures and updates.”
About: I have cared for pets with my family since I was a baby, and I have been volunteering with animal rescues since the age of 14! (to care for and clean up after cats/dogs.) I also own 14 fish tanks, and 2 beautiful kitties. All very well loved animals. I am a college student majoring in environmental science and marine and estuarine sciences. I am working through rover to help fund my college. I only have classes about 3 days a week, and mainly attend classes later in the afternoon, so I can easily tend to pets before class early in the morning, around lunch time, and after class around dinner time. Contact me and we can work something out:) I am an experienced pet owner, and I am happy to provide all the basics like, cleaning cages/litter boxes, food/water bowls, refreshing water and feeding, taking on walks, and playing with the your pet, and of COURSE providing lots of love and attention😸!
“10/10 sitter! Excellent communication, did everything we requested and sent so many photos! I could tell from the pics how much my dogs loved Tatum. She is definitely someone we will use again!”

“Michael was absolutely amazing with our sweet big boy for 10 days while we were out of town. Our guy has newly started having seizures and while we hoped he wouldn’t have one while we were gone he ended up having 4. Michael was not experienced beforehand with sitting with dogs who have seizures but made sure to ask all the questions before hand to make sure he knew what to do. And thankfully he did. He even ended up giving our guy a rectal suppository after the regular medications were not working sufficiently and stayed with him until we were home to ensure a safe handoff. To top it off he also checked in with us later to see how Moko was doing. We could not recommend him more. Thank you again Michael!”
“Ray was wonderful with our dog and took great care of both her and our home. Communication throughout the stay was excellent — we received thoughtful updates, honest notes about how things were going, and clear follow-ups at the end. Our dog can be a little hesitant in bad weather and new situations, and Ray was patient, attentive, and proactive in giving her plenty of opportunities, encouragement, and affection. It was clear she was comfortable, well-exercised, and genuinely cared for. Ray also went above and beyond making sure everything was clean and handled before leaving. We came home to a happy pup and a well-kept house, which is exactly what you hope for. We’d absolutely trust Ray again and would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable, caring sitter.”

“We are forever grateful for Kerry’s diligence and caring for our cat and dog. Called out of town on an emergency basis, we were desperate to get a good person to manage our two family pets. Kerry showed initiative, caring and considerable knowledge about how to care for our anxious dog and big cat. We would hire Kerry again in a heartbeat.”

“We couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Deloris! She took such great care of Holly and our home, and from day one her communication made everything so easy and stress-free.”

“David was great with my two dogs!! They looked like they had a great time with him. He communicated very well during the 10 day stay. We would definitely use him again to take care of our babies in the future!”

“Highly recommend Charles for pet sitting. Our dog warmed up to him immediately and he did the same to her. He is responsible, kind, caring and understanding. He helped us out by staying an extra day when our flight was canceled and that gave us the peace of mind we needed to get back home sooner. We are happy we were able to find him and look forward to working with him again!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Potomac Mills
Five stars is not enough for the incredible care our two fur babies received from Catherine K.! From start to finish, Catherine was exceptionally professional and made the entire experience completely stress-free. Her communication was outstanding, providing us with regular updates and wonderful photos that kept our minds at total ease while we were away. It was clear from the moment she took over that our cats were in safe, highly capable, and loving hands. Catherine went above and beyond to maintain their daily routines and allowed them their space to become comfortable with her. If you want absolute peace of mind and a sitter who treats your pets like family, look no further than Catherine K. We will absolutely be booking her again!

We had a really great experience with Gwendolyn. She took great care of our two dachshunds who are both nervous and can be a lot to manage. She was quick to respond and very respectful of our home. Would recommend her to anyone looking for reliable and caring pet sitting needs.

Natalie took great care of our dog while we were away. I had some concerns leaving our dog with a stranger for the first time because he can be protective of his home. Natalie made the time to come meet our pup at a neutral spot and then headed to the home so he could get use to her in his environment. The meet and greet went well and our dog was excited to see her when she came to stay overnight. Natalie was very quick when returning my texts and calls. She took great care of our pup while we were away and we will use her again in the future.

Shaun did an amazing job! He followed all of our directions, kept us updated, and took great care of Lex while we were away. Lex was very happy, comfortable, and clearly well cared for when we got home. We really appreciated the attention and care he gave our dog and home. We would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter!

Excellent dog and house sitter. Pets were calm and well cared for while we were away. Erin communicated with us several times a day and kept us updated on their daily activities. She has a great deal of experience working with pets and catered to their individual needs.

We will always have Xiomara watch our dog and cat as long as she’s available, she is incredible. She sends constant updates, pictures, videos, and my dog LOVES her. So does our cat. She is such a wonderful person and she leaves our place sparkling clean. Having peace of mind about our precious animals makes traveling a thousand times more enjoyable. Thank you so much Xiomara ❤️

Tiana is the ultimate professional. I almost had to cancel the booking due to unforeseen circumstances. She handled it with understanding, grace, and patience. I’m glad I was able to make alternate plans and keep my booking with her. She was early to everything related to the booking which shows how serious she takes her job. I made a short notice decision to come home early and Tiana responded and adjusted well to that also. She made sure the puppies were taken care of and everything in the house was in order so I can just go straight to bed.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Potomac Mills walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Potomac Mills maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Potomac Mills choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
