“Katie was absolutely wonderful. She handled my two large rambunctious dogs like a pro and I got lots of pics while I was away, which were so comforting knowing they were in great hands. She even administered meds when one of them unexpectedly got an ear infection. I highly recommend her and will not hesitate to use her again when I need to travel again.”

“Jeffrey saved the day with our anxious pup during a recent stay - while helping us sort out a FedEx delivery AND a problem with our deadbolt! He goes far above and beyond anything one should expect from a sitter and delivered amazing care for our dog who needed to be coaxed into eating and drinking while we were away. He’s also a great communicator who will keep you informed and share lots of pet photos and videos. Recommend Jeffrey highly, but please leave some time on his schedule for us! 😂 He’s a keeper!”

“One of the best sitters I have had. Frequent updates, followed all instructions, went above and beyond. Dash was happy, well cared for, fed, clean, and loved. I felt completely at ease leaving him with Shannon.”

“This was our first Rover experience and our sitter did not disappoint. Xena was wonderful with our husky. She was punctual and communicative throughout the evening. We look forward to having her return for our next event.”

“Mia was absolutely wonderful! I felt comfortable with her the moment we met. Her communication with us was great.Dusty was in great company. I would recommend her to anyone.”

“Taje was so amazing caring for our three dogs for a week. She sent daily pictures and communicated as much or as little as we wanted every day. We had special circumstances where one dog had to be consistently separated from another, and she handled that special situation with professionalism and expertise. Our house was cleaner than we left it (amazing considering how much our dog sheds!), and we had not one worry while we were away. We plan to use Taje again anytime we leave our house in the future!!”

“Jenny was very attentive and communicative while watching the dog and house, and also when scheduling. Everything was in good shape when I returned. She made sure to ask lots of questions about the dog's lifestyle/habits/quirks/challenges, and took plenty of notes when I walked through the procedures with her.”

“Jina took care of our dog and home for 2 weeks while we were out of town. She was amazing. Our pup was well cared for and I so appreciated her daily updates and photos. Jina gave our dog his daily medication, took care of our plants, brought in mail/packages and cleaned up after our pup who likes to bring food across the floor. I highly recommend her and will be looking to use her services again in the future!”

“Orrin does a great job taking care of our dog. When we get home after a day or weekend of Orrin's care, we can tell our dog is happy and had a great time. We can tell a lot about how well our dog was cared for by how anxious he seems when we get home--whenever Orrin was the caretaker, our dog is calm and also tired from all the time they spent together (which says a lot for our Malinois mix). We get the sense Orrin cares about our dog as much as we do, and that means a lot.”

“Latisha did such a good job housesitting for our pups! She took great care of our dogs, sent us daily pictures and updates, and kept the house in order. Highly recommend working with her!”

“Rachel has house sit for our anxious German shepherd and rude cat twice now and we’ve come home to happy and well taken pets and house both times! I highly recommend her do you can have a carefree trip!”

“Ken took such good care of our boy Hamlet. He’s just such a natural around dogs and is funny to boot. Very jovial and attentive with a great sense of humor. He gave us updates for each time he checked in Hamlet on each day with a report on meal time, potty breaks, and play time. Also sent cute pictures! Ken clearly loves dogs and shows that in his care for them. I wouldn’t hesitate to book him again.”

“We were happy to be able to have Mabelyn stay at our home to take care of our dog for the week we were gone. She communicated every day and sent us photos. In addition, she took great care in leaving our home as tidy and clean as when we left. We highly recommend Mabelyn as a house and dog/cat sitter.”

“Don is a pleasure to have at our house. Our pets are kind of boring to watch because they do not do much but they get along well with Don. He checks in and is responsive. We will definitely have him watch the pets again!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Derwood
Wilson was the absolute best dog sitter! To say that he was outstanding would be an understatement. Before our trip, he came to our home twice just to meet our dogs, become familiar with their routines, and carefully review all the instructions for the house. We have two nervous dogs that struggle with separation anxiety, and Wilson was incredibly patient, gentle, and loving with them. At the beginning of our trip, one of our dogs was extremely stressed and would not come out of her room. After only two or three days of Wilson’s visits, we watched through our Furbo camera as she began coming out, acting like herself again, and becoming genuinely excited to see him. That gave us tremendous peace of mind while we were away. Wilson was also extremely dependable and accommodating. One evening, we had an unexpected issue and asked if he could return to the house one more time to let the dogs out and spend some extra time with them. Without hesitation, he said, “Of course,” and went right back every night. In the middle of our trip, I also realized that I had forgotten to arrange for someone to change our bird’s water. Wilson happily took care of that too! He paid close attention to every detail. I had prepared the dogs’ treats in labeled Ziploc bags, but they became disorganized. Wilson took the time to sort everything and put the bags back in the correct order. That is the kind of thoughtful care and professionalism he provides. Wilson is responsible, educated, trustworthy, compassionate, and wonderful with animals. We had absolutely no concerns about him being in our home, and he cared for our pets as if they were his own. I have already recommended him to my daughter in Warren, New Jersey, and she is excited to hire him for her dogs after seeing how wonderful he was with ours. Wilson is now our forever dog sitter 🦮🐕🦺🐶🐶 and our doggies’ new best friend! They will probably experience separation anxiety all over again now that their time with Wilson is over. I only hope he doesn’t become so popular that we can’t book him anymore! We are forever grateful to Wilson and recommend him without hesitation. If you are looking for someone who is trustworthy, professional, dependable, and genuinely loving toward animals, Wilson is the person you want caring for your pets. Priceless 💫✨🐕🦺🦮🐶🐶

Taylor housesat for us for almost a week and was very prompt in ensuring our old canine girl, who needs medication four times a day, got her medications on time. She also took out the trash, brought in mail, accommodated workmen that needed to conduct repairs in our home, and left our home in tidy condition. We are very happy with her services and will reach out to her again.

Lauren was responsive and amenable to helping out with changing health (and diet!) needs of our elderly pup. She was great and our dog was clearly well cared for, and our house was nice and clean when we got home. We would definitely leave our pup with Lauren again.

Sarah was fabulous! She made sure that my pup was well cared for (especially since she’s post surgery). She gave her extra snuggles and made sure to send me some pictures so I knew that my pup was happy and comfortable. Sarah also took care of my home and let it as she found it (if not cleaner) I highly recommend her and hope that she wants to return 😌

I cannot recommend Thelma more highly! She house-sat our cats for 10 days while we were away and did a phenomenal job. She gave updates and photos, made sure to clarify any questions with us promptly, and truly left our home cleaner than she found it. Great communication, super kind, and above all great with the cats!

Mark house-sat our 17 years old dog for a long weekend. He was very punctual, responsible and conscientious, caring and respectful to our home. He asked for clarification when he needed to ensure that he was doing the right thing. He sent us daily updates. We are very happy with his service.

I wanted to share how absolutely amazing Taje was. I was desperate for last-minute help with my elderly, blind, and deaf dog, as well as my elderly cat. I usually hate leaving them, but she came and stayed with them and completely put my worries aside, and I felt entirely comfortable knowing they were in her care. I could not recommend her more to take care of anyone's pets!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Derwood walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Derwood maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Derwood choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
