“Alysson did a great job house sitting my bull terrier for 10 days. She was responsive to our messages and sent pictures to keep us updated while we were on vacation. My dog is reactive and on a special diet with measured kibble and supplements both of which Alysson took care of well.”

“I had the pleasure of hiring Maya as my dog sitter and I am beyond grateful that I found her. Maya's love and understanding of dogs is obvious and she took the time to understand my dog's needs and ensured he felt safe and comfortable. She went above and beyond to provide him with plenty of exercise, playtime, and affection. Maya's attention to detail, professionalism, and communication made me feel at ease knowing my dog was in such capable and caring hands. I highly recommend Maya to anyone in need of a reliable and loving dog sitter. Thank you, Maya, for the incredible care you provided Slater!”

“Taylor was great! She was able to accommodate our request on short notice, was very responsive, and made sure our dogs got the care they needed while we were gone. We came back to two very happy dogs. Would definitely recommend and book again!”

“Kassandra did a good job with my two Huskies and looking after my house. She had to administer meds, brush the “sheddy ones” and check the yard for things the crows drop in. I liked that she would drive over on her lunch break to give them a quick walk/bathroom break❣️”

“Bianca was wonderful :) She was available super last minute to stay with my pup all evening so that I could go out for once. She gave my girl two nice 30 min walks and played with her (and even cleaned up the stuffed toy massacre haha). She sent pictures and plenty of adorable updates throughout the stay. Thank you Bianca!”

“Rebeca was fantastic—kind, reliable, and great with Meeko. She sent regular updates and photos, took him on lots of walks, and kept everything in perfect shape at home. I had total peace of mind and would book her again in a heartbeat.”

“Cloe was great! She took care of our Golden Retriever for a week and sent lots of updates and photos. She was responsive, friendly and respectful. Cloe also took great care of our home.”

“It was an absolute pleasure to have Mélanie house and pet sit our two pups - an Irish Doodle and a Maltese. From the time we had our initial meet and great, we felt extremely confident about leaving our house and pets in her care. She kept us up to date with wonderful pictures and reports - both of which were comforting while on our trip. Upon our return the house was perfectly clean and our dogs were so very happy. Mélanie even took the time to water our plants both inside and out. Definitely a 10/10 rating for service. We were so pleased with her visit that we have already booked our future trip!”

“Autumn is excellent with my cat and once again left my place exactly as I left it. My cat even came to the door to greet her this time and asked for lots of belly rubs. This is so nice to see as she is normally shy. Thank you Autumn for the excellent care of my fur baby :)”

“Tanya-Ann and Enrique were excellent house sitters. I applaud their patience with our sulky cat who needs regular medication. Thank you for taking care of our place and our kitties!”

About: Hello, my name is Sarah! I am 26 years old and residing in Ottawa, ON. I am an animal lover all-around, but have a special soft spot for dogs! I do not currently have any pets but have grown up and spent my whole life around dogs & cats. I understand the feeling of an animal being more than a pet, but rather a member of the family. I have previously owned large dogs, therefore I consider myself to be fully capable and comfortable caretaking for your larger/ stronger pets too. I have experience with retrievers, huskies, Irish wolfhounds, golden doodles, black toy poodles, German shepherds, Swiss mountain dogs, and lots more! Summer availability: I am currently available any day of the week, at any time of the day. From Sept 2026 availability will change as I am currently a student at Algonquin College. I am very involved in the care I provide & love to give pets the attention they require. I am trustworthy & capable of following client’s regular care routine for their pets. I am more than capable of exercising & walking pets as well.

“Nicole watched my young rescue dog and my senior cat - she was great! She updated me with pictures throughout and took great care of my babies. I'm very grateful that she agreed to watch them.”

“Sara was so easy going and took great care of the boys. She was very responsive and patiently answered all my questions, as this was our first time using Rover. My cats adopted her, and clearly trusted her right off the bat. We came home to perfectly content kitties, and would not hesitate to book her again. Thanks, Sara!”

“We have used Erica multiple times now and she is awesome! Our dog gets the royal treatment with Erica which makes going away on holiday worry free. Thanks Erica you are great!”

“Amanda provides excellent care for our dog and home while we are traveling. She sends us lots of pictures of his many walks. Our home is just as we left it each time. We really appreciate knowing that everything is taken care of - gives us the peace of mind to travel!”

Pet care fills easily in my life as I have been doing it for awhile now! I do work a part-time job and will need to leave for around 5 hours in the day but just me about dates and times and I will adjust my schedule ! I treat everyone with respect! About: Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and caring for them is something I truly love. I’ve spent over 3 years working in a veterinary clinic, where I’ve supported pets with all kinds of personalities, medical needs and routines. I’m comfortable caring for senior pets, and animals who may be nervous or need a little extra patience. My background also means I can safely give medication, monitor for illness, and provide extra support when needed. What matters most to me is making sure your pet feels safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I take the time to follow their routine and get to know them. I will always keep you updated with messages and photos so you can feel at ease. Pet care fits very naturally into our daily routine, and we’re available most of the time. We genuinely enjoy being around animals, so your pet will always have company, attention, and care throughout the day. Your pet will never be left unattended, and we make their safety, comfort, and happiness our top priority so you can feel completely at ease while you’re away. Your pet’s safety and comfort are our top priorities. We always like to do a meet-and-greet first to make sure your pet feels relaxed and comfortable with us before any booking. We provide a calm, quiet home environment with no other pets, so your pet will receive our full attention. We’re also located near the Ottawa River, with access to large green spaces that are perfect for safe, enjoyable walks. It was an absolute pleasure to have Autumn as my cat sitter! She was very easy to communicate with and was very understandable about some last-minute changes to my booking. She managed my cat’s quirky personality with ease and great care, and he absolutely adored her. She communicated frequently and sent photos and updates along the way, which was so appreciated and helped ease any anxiety about being away from my cat. She left my place spotless, and I know my cat misses her already! I would hire Autumn to cat sit for me again in a heartbeat :)

Fergus had an awesome time with Amelia! We greatly appreciate the message, photo and video updates during our trip. Amelia made sure Fergus had a fun and safe time during the high temperatures by limiting outdoor activities and playing with his “splash pad” during the cooler parts of the day. As always our boy and our home were well taken care of. It’s great having such a wonderful person we can trust while we are away. Many thanks 🐾❤️

Inci is awesome. She communicated before, during and after the visit, sent lots of pictures. My dog got lots of loving from Inci and her fiancé. My home Was left spotless. All the dishes were done and away, the linens were washed and folded. She even cleaned up what I refer to as “messy corner”(that place where I just drop stuff until I have a chance to organize it). We will definitely be using Inci again. Thank you Inci.

Kassandra was fantastic, I came home to a very happy dog who definitely had the energy of one that had a great time. Could not have asked for a better experience. I had no worries or concerns while I was gone, and she will be my first call for any and all future pet care needs. She left my house extremely clean and tidy, it was hard to believe someone had stayed there a whole week!

Melina was wonderful! I went to Europe for 3 weeks and I wasn't sure how my cat would handle it as he gets lonely. Melina went above and beyond. She sent me daily updates, followed any instructions, and I was able to relax knowing she gave my cat all he needed. We had great communication from the beginning. Highly recommend Melina and would definitely book her again.

Amazing dog sitter and human being. My dog loves Nicole, she is amazing with him. Very kind, has strong experience, follows instructions in terms of his needs. Very easy going! I have used rover before and had horrible experiences. I was scared to trust Rover but Nicole has rebuilt that trust for me. 10/10 recommend Nicole!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Ottawa on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 844 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ottawa. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ottawa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ottawa walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ottawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
