“Maya was absolutely fantastic! Constantly gave us update’s throughout the weekend and came home to a well maintained house, and cleaner than how we left it! Would encourage anyone thinking about care for their furbabies to go ahead with Maya!”

““Mya did an amazing job house- and dog-sitting for us for a week! She gave our dogs so much attention, kept us updated throughout, watered our plants, and handled our deliveries. The house was spotless when we returned, and the dogs were incredibly happy. Couldn't ask for a better sitter!"”

“Melanie exceeded all of our expectations! Our dog loved her and she was absolutely great to deal with. We're nervous owners of a senior dog, and really appreciated all the updates and photos she sent. Our dog isn't used to being left alone often, so we really appreciated that Melanie was able to spend all day with him. She's very responsive, and followed all the instructions we left to a T. It's obvious Melanie is a true dog lover, and we wouldn't hesitate to leave our dog with her again!”

“Kassandra was absolutely amazing! She stayed at my house with my dog Kodak for almost 2 weeks. She sent updates and regularly, and I never once worried about Kodak not being in great hands. My home was spotless upon my return, and she expressed how much fun she had with Kodak during her time with him. I’m so grateful for the experience I had with her, and I couldn’t recommend her more to watch anyone’s fur baby!”

“Taylor was great! She was able to accommodate our request on short notice, was very responsive, and made sure our dogs got the care they needed while we were gone. We came back to two very happy dogs. Would definitely recommend and book again!”

“Thank you so much Maureen for taking such good care of our dog and our cat while we were away. They were in amazing shape when we came back and we could clearly tell that they had a very good time with Maureen! We left on vacation for two weeks and Maureen housesat and petsit our dog and cat. She did an amazing job, she sent us tons of updates so we knew that everything was going well and when we came back the house was impeccable. We will definitively book Maureen's services again as our pets are already missing her!”

“Would highly recommend Sarah! Sarah took amazing care of our cat Silvia and stayed in our home for a couple nights while we were away. We received regular updates and photos and we knew our cat was in good hands! Our apartment was left super clean and tidy. It was a huge peace of mind to know that Silvia was being looked after by someone so trustworthy and caring. Thank you, Sarah!”

“Debbie was great with Odi and Lacey. We needed a last minute replacement for our dog sitter for the first two days of our vacation and Debbie was able to help us out. She is very responsive and gave us frequent updates on how they were doing. Definitely recommend Debbie for dogsitting/housesitting.”

“Une personne exceptionnelle, totalement de confiance intègre et elle a traité nos poilus avec un amour inconditionnel, je recommande Christine à 500 % Juste du wow 😍😍😍😍 Merci tellement et on se revoit bientôt.”
“Amy did a great job taking care of my dog! She took her for walks, kept me updated throughout her stay, and made sure everything went smoothly. I felt comfortable knowing my dog was in good hands. I definitely recommend Amy and would happily use her services again in the future!”

“Jenna is honestly a FANTASTIC sitter. My nervous and anxious puppy loves her and I felt very comfortable that I was leaving her in good hands! I honestly can’t recommend her enough.”

“Tanya-Ann and Enrique stayed at our home with our dog, Grover, for five nights. They were quick to respond, sent a lot of communication, and (most importantly) took amazing care of Grover. They also left the house extraordinarily clean! I wish we would have found them earlier, as we are now moving out of town. Thank you so much!”

About: I'm a dog lover with four years of experience of looking after my dog (a rescue), who is currently with my family abroad. I am reliable and can guarantee constant communication, as I know how stressful it can be to be apart from our furry friends. I currently work full time with availability during most weekends. I do not have any other major commitments and lead an active life, with almost daily walks. I live in a pet-friendly apartment building which is secure and located centrally, close to parks and walking routes. I do not have any pets.
About: Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and caring for them is something I truly love. I’ve spent over 3 years working in a veterinary clinic, where I’ve supported pets with all kinds of personalities, medical needs and routines. I’m comfortable caring for senior pets, and animals who may be nervous or need a little extra patience. My background also means I can safely give medication, monitor for illness, and provide extra support when needed. What matters most to me is making sure your pet feels safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I take the time to follow their routine and get to know them. I will always keep you updated with messages and photos so you can feel at ease. Pet care fits very naturally into our daily routine, and we’re available most of the time. We genuinely enjoy being around animals, so your pet will always have company, attention, and care throughout the day. Your pet will never be left unattended, and we make their safety, comfort, and happiness our top priority so you can feel completely at ease while you’re away. Your pet’s safety and comfort are our top priorities. We always like to do a meet-and-greet first to make sure your pet feels relaxed and comfortable with us before any booking. We provide a calm, quiet home environment with no other pets, so your pet will receive our full attention. We’re also located near the Ottawa River, with access to large green spaces that are perfect for safe, enjoyable walks. Whether in our home or yours, we focus on following your pet’s routine closely and creating a stress-free, secure environment where they feel at home.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Ottawa
She was absolutely wonderful with Ash! She was very kind, easygoing, and patient with him, especially since he can be a little fussy with new humans. She gave him the time and space he needed until he warmed up to her, and it was clear that he became comfortable with her. She also took the time to meet with us beforehand, which made me feel much more at ease since this was our first experience using Rover. While we were away, she kept us updated and sent lots of photos of Ash, so we felt completely stress-free knowing he was in good hands. She was also respectful of our home as she stayed at our place to watch Ash. We had great experience and would absolutely choose her to stay with Ash again and can easily recommend her to anyone looking for someone to look after their pet! 🐱

Michael was a wonderful dog sitter for our aging puppy and took excellent care of her while we were away. I got photo and video updates and relevant information was shared with me that I greatly appreciated. It is clear that Michael comes with a great deal of experience with dogs and this was so reassuring for us. I highly recommend Michael to take care of your pet.

If I could give 6 stars, I would!! Kayleigh is truly the Mary Poppins of pet care. I booked her for house sitting last minute and she went above and beyond to make things easy for me, even bringing her own sheets so I wouldn't have to do laundry. Beyond making sure the pets were taken care of, she made sure they had fun! She played with my cats, giving them time to build trust with her, and she took my dog on adventures like splashing in the river and trying out new trails. My dog even ate on day one, and he usually doesn't feel safe enough to eat around new people. I would absolutely recommend Kaleigh without hesitation!

Kassandra was absolutely amazing! She stayed at my house with my dog Kodak for almost 2 weeks. She sent updates and regularly, and I never once worried about Kodak not being in great hands. My home was spotless upon my return, and she expressed how much fun she had with Kodak during her time with him. I’m so grateful for the experience I had with her, and I couldn’t recommend her more to watch anyone’s fur baby!

Csilla was amazing!! She communicated with me while I was away sending me pictures of the cats and how they were doing which really bit me at ease. She also helped clean up a bit and left my place feeling cleaner than it was when I left. I’ll definetly be booking her again

Charlotte was amazing and reliable as always. This was the third time watching the boys but first time extended stay (a week long). She provided updates and pictures, asked for clarity when needed, and went above and beyond to help a colleague of mine who was also out of town at the same time and ran into a jam with her bunnies. I also love coming home to a spotless house and you wouldn’t even know she was here. The boys are tired and in great spirits. I’m not even sure if they are happy to see me or want more time with Charlotte. 🤣

Virginia was wonderful with our 2-year-old Wheaten, Nessa! We felt completely comfortable trusting her with Nessa while we were away for 5 days. Nessa seemed very happy and well cared for, and it was clear she really enjoyed her time with Virginia. We would absolutely recommend her and would happily have her watch Nessa again!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ottawa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ottawa walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ottawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 90% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
