“Bianca was super awesome to communicate with and was great with my dog Mylo! She sent lots of updates and pictures, and even with the power going out/ huge storm was able to keep us posted! I trusted her going into my home & have zero complaints. Bianca is a great sitter and I would definitely use her again :)”

About: I have taken care of animals my entire life, from birds and fish to cats and dogs. There has not been a second where I have been without taking care of pets! I currently have and take care of two cats with extremely different personalities and a high energy, reactive Border Collie. Therefore, I understand and know how to work with the challenges of dogs who require lots of physical and mental stimulation. I love working with and getting to know all kinds of animals and breeds and understand that no two pets are the same and all require different needs. I have experience taking care of family members’ animals in their homes for up to a week at a time. I have lots of experience and am thrilled to get to know your pets and how to best deal with them! Pet care fits into my routine and life as pets are my priority. I love animals very much and are passionate that I will always be available for an animal's needs. Taking care of pets and getting to know them is truly what makes me happy. In my home, I balance taking care of 2 cats and 1 energetic Border Collie. I take my dog for two 40 minute walks a day and play with him CONSTANTLY in the house (Playful dog owners will especially know about the never ending fetch game)! I measure out both my cat and dog’s food to ensure they are getting proper amounts. I also change my cats’ litter on a daily basis. I enjoy playing laser with my cats and other cat toys!
“Kassandra did a good job with my two Huskies and looking after my house. She had to administer meds, brush the “sheddy ones” and check the yard for things the crows drop in. I liked that she would drive over on her lunch break to give them a quick walk/bathroom break❣️”

“It was never going to be an easy shift with a very high energy, happy Golden hut Caitlin met the challenge with patience and fun, keeping Indie entertained for hours and then even putting all the toys away. Highly recommend.”

“Alysson did a great job house sitting my bull terrier for 10 days. She was responsive to our messages and sent pictures to keep us updated while we were on vacation. My dog is reactive and on a special diet with measured kibble and supplements both of which Alysson took care of well.”

“Piper loved her extended weekend with Sara! Sara stuck to Piper’s care schedule, took her on lots of walks, had snuggles and always provided me with great updates! She is lovely to deal with and I 100% would love to have Sara back to care for Piper! Thank you so, Sara :)”

“From the moment she showed up for the meet and greet Charlotte’s calm demeanour was the exact energy I needed to counter act my boys’ anxiousness. She didn’t shy away from an overgrown toddler who needed to work on his manners and instantly squashed any concerns I had about needing to leave my big adolescent mastiff alone for the first time. She listened to all overly protective mamma directions and was confident and reassuring to every possible scenario. She kept me updated with pictures and the house was spotless when I returned. She went above and beyond that I wouldn’t have even know she was in my house. 20/10. Highly recommend. Especially for large breeds that are always a bit more “special”.”

“Taylor was great! She was able to accommodate our request on short notice, was very responsive, and made sure our dogs got the care they needed while we were gone. We came back to two very happy dogs. Would definitely recommend and book again!”

“Sarah truly becomes your pet’s new best friend. I’m SO grateful to have found her on Rover. My dog instantly connected with Sarah at our meet and greet. Sarah embodies all of the qualities that you would want in a person caring for your pet. She’s punctual, trustworthy, reliable, positive, caring and communicative. I received updates and pictures daily while I was away. I cannot speak highly enough about Sarah!!!!”

About: Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and caring for them is something I truly love. I’ve spent over 3 years working in a veterinary clinic, where I’ve supported pets with all kinds of personalities, medical needs and routines. I’m comfortable caring for senior pets, and animals who may be nervous or need a little extra patience. My background also means I can safely give medication, monitor for illness, and provide extra support when needed. What matters most to me is making sure your pet feels safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I take the time to follow their routine and get to know them. I will always keep you updated with messages and photos so you can feel at ease. Pet care fits very naturally into our daily routine, and we’re available most of the time. We genuinely enjoy being around animals, so your pet will always have company, attention, and care throughout the day. Your pet will never be left unattended, and we make their safety, comfort, and happiness our top priority so you can feel completely at ease while you’re away. Your pet’s safety and comfort are our top priorities. We always like to do a meet-and-greet first to make sure your pet feels relaxed and comfortable with us before any booking. We provide a calm, quiet home environment with no other pets, so your pet will receive our full attention. We’re also located near the Ottawa River, with access to large green spaces that are perfect for safe, enjoyable walks. Whether in our home or yours, we focus on following your pet’s routine closely and creating a stress-free, secure environment where they feel at home.
“This was our first time having Shannon stay in our home as our pet sitter while we were away. Thank you so much for everything you have cared for while we were unable to do so ourselves. To say our expectations have been exceeded is an honest under statement. The level of care you have provided to our pets and the upkept you provided to our space was immediately noticeable when we entered our home. This is a true reflecting of how caring of a person you truelly are - a true testimony of your character. 10/10 would recommend and will be using her services again!”

“Rebeca was fantastic—kind, reliable, and great with Meeko. She sent regular updates and photos, took him on lots of walks, and kept everything in perfect shape at home. I had total peace of mind and would book her again in a heartbeat.”

“It was an absolute pleasure to have Mélanie house and pet sit our two pups - an Irish Doodle and a Maltese. From the time we had our initial meet and great, we felt extremely confident about leaving our house and pets in her care. She kept us up to date with wonderful pictures and reports - both of which were comforting while on our trip. Upon our return the house was perfectly clean and our dogs were so very happy. Mélanie even took the time to water our plants both inside and out. Definitely a 10/10 rating for service. We were so pleased with her visit that we have already booked our future trip!”

“Amelia and blaze made a special bond that I know he misses her. She was as so respectful, attentive and responsible for not just our baby boy but our home. She is going to be out forever now, and apart of our family. She is so sweet, loving and kind. Highly recommend her…although I’ll take her again before you haha. Nothing but great things to say about her. She took excellent care of our big Belgian Malinois who took a very loving take to her very quickly. She took him to snd from his doggy daycare appointments while we were gone for 3 weeks. Amelia, you are amazing hun! Can’t wait to see you again!! Blaze misses you!! Xo”

About: I've been working with dogs since I graduated from high school. I was a dog trainer not 4 years ago, and can help with any training that may be required/requested! I also have experience working in a shelter, so any trouble makers or anxious pups won't scare me away! I am currently on my summer break from university, which means I have lots of time to watch and play with your pet! I am offering to house sit for you at any time and for any length of time, or if you prefer drop in visits/walks around the neighborhood, I would love to help in any way I can. Any and all care I provide to your pet in your home is dictated and approved by you. I've worked with both dogs and cats who have moderate to severe dietary restrictions, as well as mobility issues, allowing for a more experienced sitter than others. They're safety and happiness is always my number one priority, and I will ensure they are given the best care available.

Rebeca did a wonderful job taking care of my cat Pepper for the first time this weekend. She is an absolute professional, cares a lot about animals, followed the instructions i left her thoroughly and asked lots of questions to make sure he was getting the right care and maintaining his routine. She is also very kind, generous, and communicative. I will happily work with her again!

Tika and Lydia connected instantly, and it was clear from the very beginning that Lydia has an excellent understanding of dog care. She is responsible, attentive, and genuinely committed to making pets feel safe and comfortable. Lydia took wonderful care of our dog, and her calm, caring presence made a noticeable difference.

Nicole was a great dog and house sitter. She sent updates at least twice a day with photos. We were gone for 6 days and each day we could see our dog was getting more comfortable with Nicole being there. The house was clean and tidy when we arrived back and she even offered to water the plants for us. We will definitely have Nicole as our first option to stay with our dog again.

Brinly took care of our dog and cats with the utmost care. They absolutely adored her company and she took care of them like they were her own. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter while we were away on vacation. She respected our home and took extra care with the instructions provided to her. We have already booked her for another visit and I am sure they can’t wait to see her again 🙂❤️

Michael was amazing with our puppy Henry Douglas. No problems with his raw food diet, gave him lots of attention and variety of activities to help burn his teenage energy. Lots of lovely updates with pictures and videos throughout the stay. Additionally, Michael took excellent care of our apartment and it was in tip top shape when we returned. Will definitely look to book with him again! Our Henry has a good bond with him now.

We have had the pleasure of having Ishan help take care of our Old English Sheepdog on several occasions. Each time, the care that Ishan provides has been excellent. Our OES clearly thinks so too with how excited he is to see Ishan each time. Thank you for the excellent service you provide.

Isabelle is such a kind and gentle soul and I was able to feel at ease while I was away knowing that she was taking care of my sweet boy. My dog is blind and has trauma so he benefits from a calm and predictable environment and Isabelle was able to provide this for him. She stayed in touch and gave me lots of updates too. Will be happy to hire her again.

Another great visit for Fergus! We really appreciate Amelia being so accommodating during our recent day trip as our plans changed last minute. We received lots of photo updates and it meant so much to us that she worked with him on patience training with his toys in the backyard (he can be quite impatient when there’s a toy in your hand). As always we came home to a clean home and a very happy pup. Thank you so much Amelia 🥰🐾

A huge thank you to Shelley for her amazing care of our two dogs! She is everything an anxious dog mom could want in a pet carer - kind, attentive, caring and trustworthy. Our 'stranger-danger' anxious doggie quickly bonded with her which is noteworthy! We are so happy to have found Shelley for our pet-sitting needs.

Camille was an excellent dog sitter for our two dogs over the weekend. She asked great questions ahead of time to ensure she could give the best care to both. She easily managed all instructions regarding walking/feeding. She provided regular check ins on how they were doing, which gave us peace of mind. We will 100% book Camille for any future stays!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Ottawa on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 844 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ottawa. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ottawa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ottawa walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ottawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
