To say that Mélanie went above and beyond would be an understatement! Within her first few minutes with us we had a power outage and a massive storm. We ended up deciding to relocate to my partners house for the duration of her stay and she was so calm and helpful throughout the whole situation. My baby boy is on a special diet and I had forgot some of his premade meals during the chaos of switching houses but Melanie had no problem helping me out and cooking some of his meals for me. She truly took care of him as if it was her own dog and gave me plenty of updates along the way so I never had to worry. It was the first time I could be away without being worried and it really made a world of difference. My boy Alfred seemed to be pretty smitten too and is definitely looking forward to seeing her again!! 🤗🤗

About: 🦮🤗 hello, Bonjour, Je m'appelle Isabelle et j'ai 39 ans. My name is Isabelle and I just mooved to Val -des-monts. 10 minutes away from perkins at McGregor lake. In Montreal I had my dog clients for 3 years meeting them as babies. I provided care with consistency, fiability, empathy and kindness. I still go visit in Montreal. I miss them a lot. Im offering ; dog sitting/walking, home visits for dogs, cats and small animals. I love the act of taking care in general and the special connection I have with animals. Im a campanion for the elderly and I do home visits. Work shifts are short so i have a lot of availability any time of day. I have been fostering animals for the SPCA. One time, i cared for a pregnant guinea pig who gave birth at my place. It happened a few times that i signaled a hurt pigeon that i saw on the street and put them in a box while waiting for the spca. I volunteer in a cats shelter. I regurlaly dog walk and dog sit. Before a first visit we would have contact , the way you choose( online or in person) i will gather complete info. Free 30 minutes visit. Inci is awesome. She communicated before, during and after the visit, sent lots of pictures. My dog got lots of loving from Inci and her fiancé. My home Was left spotless. All the dishes were done and away, the linens were washed and folded. She even cleaned up what I refer to as “messy corner”(that place where I just drop stuff until I have a chance to organize it). We will definitely be using Inci again. Thank you Inci.

It was our first time having our pets looked after at our home and Olivia was extremely reliable and attentive. Very professional, friendly and trustworthy. We received pictures, videos and updates everyday. She allowed us to be able to relax and enjoy our vacation for the first time in a long time knowing our pets and home were in good hands. Laura watched our dog in our home for 5 days. He can be a bit of a handful at times, but she was great with him. He was happy and healthy when we got home. Our house was also left neat and tidy. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Laura for dog sitting again in the future.

About: I’ve taken care of all the family’s pets since I was a child, and trained Luke myself - he’s very calm, gentle and obedient. He’s also very healthy for a 10yo bug breed- so my vet says :-) I work from home most days, so I’m always available to take care of your pup. I live with Luke, my German shepherd who’s a sweet boy, so I already have the pet routine of walking him at least twice a day. I live in an apartment with a dog park next to the building. I have Luke who’s a friendly senior German shepherd who will love to keep your dog company. I always walk him on a leash and we like to get as cuddly as possible.

Maria was an absolute joy to have at our house to dog- sit while we were away! She was so good with our 16 year old dog— managing all her little idiosyncrasies without any issues or reservations. She was patient with her and sent us updates daily with photos and videos. I felt that Maria cared for our dog like she was her own— with kindness and love! Maria was so responsible and respectful—our home was tidy and clean and she was happy to do a few other things around the house like watering plants outdoors! I would recommend Maria to anyone looking for A+ care for their dog and home. Thank you so much for putting our minds at ease while we were away!

About: I grew up with tons of different pets in the house; from puppies to Guinea pigs and everything in between. I genuinely love spending my time with animals. Whether that be on a long sunny morning walk or cuddling on the couch with a good book in hand. I work fully remotely so my schedule is flexible. I have my own dog and she enjoys frequent sniffs outside and lots of cuddles, so I’m used to taking breaks. I have a lovely, friendly Pomeranian of my own who shares my home with me. I live near lots of walking trails and live a quiet, peaceful life.

Abigail was a great pet sitter for our fur babies. Kept us updated with messages and pics while we were away which alleviated any concerns we had about our dogs. Our flight was delayed a few days and Abigail kindly accommodated our request for an extension and the transfer of our dogs to a family member. Left our house spotless. We will definitely be calling on her again.

About: I have over a year and a half of hands-on experience working at a doggy daycare, and I absolutely loved every minute of it! My role involved supervising dogs throughout the day, making sure they stayed safe, happy, and active. I spent lots of time playing with them, encouraging exercise, and getting to know each dog’s unique personality. I also provided dog walks, drop-in visits, and overnight care for clients, so I’m comfortable caring for dogs both at home and in new environments. On top of my professional experience, I’ve grown up with large dogs my entire life, so I’m confident handling dogs of all sizes and energy levels. I genuinely love spending time with animals and treat every dog as if they were my own. I recently moved to the area for college, so my schedule is completely open until September. That means I have lots of flexibility for walks, drop-in visits, daycare, and overnight stays. I’m happy to work around your schedule and do my best to accommodate last-minute bookings whenever I can! Since I live in an apartment, I currently provide care in my clients’ homes. I always try to stick to your dog’s normal routine so they feel comfortable and secure while you’re away. I’m happy to take dogs on long walks, play with them outside in a fenced yard or indoors, and make sure they get plenty of exercise, attention, and affection. I’m also comfortable with dogs who like to cuddle or sleep with someone at night if that’s what they’re used to. I’ll make sure your dog has fresh water, is fed according to your instructions, gets lots of potty breaks, and receives plenty of love and companionship. I’ll also keep you updated with photos and messages, so you can have peace of mind while you’re away. My goal is to make your pet feel safe, happy, and cared for until you return.

FAQs for House Sitting - Wakefield

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 806 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Wakefield. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Wakefield maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Wakefield walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Wakefield choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.

If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 93% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
