“Une personne exceptionnelle, totalement de confiance intègre et elle a traité nos poilus avec un amour inconditionnel, je recommande Christine à 500 % Juste du wow 😍😍😍😍 Merci tellement et on se revoit bientôt.”
“I have booked Angela for house sitting and drop in visits on multiple different occasions over the last 3 years. She is the only person who comes to mind when I know I will be away from home and need someone to care for my cat. My cat has a lot of anxiety/trauma and is not friendly with new faces which causes me a lot of grief and guilt as well. Angela comes to my house with a variety of different strategies to help my cat feel comfortable and sends me pictures every day to keep me updated. She goes above and beyond, she’s knowledgeable on different needs and personalities, she truly cares about animals, she is the animal whisperer! Words can’t describe how grateful I am to have found her to care for my little monster when I am away.”

“Amber is an excellent dog sitter. She babysat our 2 dogs and provided many updates and photos. Gave our pups lots of love and Took them for walks daily. Absolutely wonderful personality and the dogs loved her!”

About: What sets me apart is the genuine love, patience, and experience I bring to every pet I care for. I’ve been around animals my whole life and have trained three of my own dogs, giving me experience with different personalities, energy levels, and training needs. I’ve also cared for senior and disabled dogs, as well as dogs who experience anxiety and stress. My own puppy has severe anxiety, so I understand how important it is to give nervous pets extra patience, reassurance, and a calm environment where they feel safe and comfortable. I love making sure pets get plenty of attention and enrichment, whether that means going for walks, playing, grooming, practicing training, or simply spending time together. I treat every animal as an individual and want them to feel happy, loved, and cared for while their owners are away. 🐾❤️ I work part-time, usually 5-hour shifts, and I’m completing university online, so I’m home for most of the day. This means pets will only be alone for a limited amount of time and will get plenty of attention, walks, playtime, and love throughout the day. I’m happy to work around each pet’s individual routine and needs. I care for pets in their own home, keeping them in a familiar and comfortable environment. I follow their normal routine, including feeding, walks, playtime, grooming, and any special care they need. I treat every home and pet with respect and care, and my goal is to make sure they feel safe, happy, and loved while their owners are away.
“Previously we had only left Cole with our family however we were travelling out of country together so I had to find another option. Cole is a sweet older dog who can be anxious, and we have started dealing with health issues for him. Melanie without hesitation dealt will his meds. Prior to booking Melanie, I read numerous reviews on Rover including Melanie’s. One or two great reviews is one thing but all her reviews were excellent, and I can now add another! She met with us at a meet and greet, and it was obvious immediately Cole was comfortable with her … as were we! He is a dog that is joined at the hip to me (we are retired so he is used to being with us 24/7). Melanie offered that care. We arrived home to a spotless house and a happy dog. Laundry was done and folded on the table - wow! When every review is excellent, you can rest assured your pet will be pampered by a responsible caregiver. Should the need arise again, we would turn to Melanie without hesitation.”

About: I've been an animal person my whole life. Growing up with cats, I learned their rhythms, quirks, and quiet ways of communicating, and I've carried that intuition into adulthood with my two adorable kitties. Four years ago, after decades of wanting a dog of my own, I rescued my husky/GSD mix, who has taught me even more about patience, trust-building, and the joy of seeing an animal truly thrive. I have experience from kitten/puppy-hood to older age, as well as experience with reactive dogs. Whether I'm house sitting, dropping in for a visit, or heading out for a walk, I move at the animals pace, letting them get comfortable and show me who they are. For dogs, I love creating enriching adventures tailored to their personality and breed: slow sniff-walks for curious explorers, structured and training-oriented outings for high-energy pups, and calm neighbourhood strolls for seniors. For cats, I love giving them the full-attention experience. Hands on play, grooming, and of course, all the cuddles. My goal is to make your pet feel secure, seen, and genuinely cares for while keeping your home exactly how you left it. I know the stress of leaving your fur-babies in another's hands, because I've been there myself. I want to care for your pet exactly how I would want my pets cared for. I currently work hybrid (only 1-2 days in office), with the rest of the time spent working remotely from desk, couch, or wherever your pet wants me to be. My fiancée and I live together, so he is able to care for our own pets when I take on house sitting arrangements. When I'm caring for pets in a client's home, my priority is creating a calm, predictable environment where your animals feel safe and your home is treated with the same respect I give my own. I follow your routines closely - feeding, walks, playtime, and household rules - so your pet's day feels similar and comforting.
““Mya did an amazing job house- and dog-sitting for us for a week! She gave our dogs so much attention, kept us updated throughout, watered our plants, and handled our deliveries. The house was spotless when we returned, and the dogs were incredibly happy. Couldn't ask for a better sitter!"”

“Kayla was absolutely wonderful! She took great care of our home and, most importantly, looked after our golden retriever, Archie, so well. We came home to a happy dog and a house that was exactly as we left it. Kayla was responsible, caring, communicative, and a pleasure to have stay. We would happily recommend her and have her look after Archie and our home again anytime.”

“Rebecca was amazing! She is a lovely human and my little Luna took to her right away. She arrived on time and accommodated a last minute time change request. I would not hesitate to book Rebecca to care for you fur baby!”

About: I’ve had pets my entire life, and they’ve always been part of my heart and home. Right now, I share my days with three amazing cats, but I’ve cared for both cats and dogs since I was 12. From tiny kittens and energetic puppies to gentle senior pets, each one has taught me something about patience, kindness, and unconditional love. I think what sets me apart is how deeply I connect with animals — I truly see them as family. I take the time to learn their personalities, what comforts them, and what makes them happy. Whether it’s a cuddle, a long walk, or just sitting quietly beside them, I’m happiest when animals feel safe and loved in my care. Caring for animals has always been a natural part of my day. With three cats at home, my mornings and evenings usually start and end with feeding, playtime, and lots of cuddles. I love making time for pets, whether that means going for walks, checking in during the day, or just giving them extra love and attention. Spending time with animals is one of my favorite parts of the day, and I always make sure they get the care, comfort, and company they deserve. My schedule is quite consistent in the sense that I work from home 2 days a week and have weekends off which allow me to care for your pets during holidays, special events and even on short notice. When I care for pets, my goal is to make them feel safe, loved, and comfortable, just like they would at home. I always take time to learn their routines, favorite toys, and little quirks so I can keep things familiar and stress-free. In my care, pets get plenty of attention, playtime, cuddles, and a calm space to relax. In a client’s home, I make sure to follow their usual feeding, walking, and care schedule, keeping everything tidy and consistent. Whether it’s brushing, giving treats, or just sitting quietly together, I treat every pet like they’re part of my own furry family.
“Amy did a great job taking care of my dog! She took her for walks, kept me updated throughout her stay, and made sure everything went smoothly. I felt comfortable knowing my dog was in good hands. I definitely recommend Amy and would happily use her services again in the future!”

“My chihuahua can be very anxious (and so is the owner 😉) however with Kate at the house for 8 days while I was away we were both at ease. It was very comforting to know that Chico was happy and and calm with Kate and I could see that in the daily updates and photos I received. I would absolutely without a doubt how Kate again.”

“Sylvie was amazing! She is very professional and thoughtful. She went above and beyond during the Holidays to make sure our dogs were well cared for. Our dogs are BIG and can be energetic, but Sylvie managed them well. We would highly recommend her to take care of your dogs. —- Sylvie a été formidable ! Elle est très professionnelle et attentionnée. Elle s'est surpassée pendant les vacances de Noël pour s'assurer que nos chiens étaient bien pris en charge. Nos chiens sont GROS et peuvent être énergiques, mais Sylvie les a bien gérés. Nous la recommandons vivement pour s'occuper de vos chiens.”

“Autumn was excellent. My cat who is usually very shy at first approached her as soon as she got there for the meet and greet and I came home to a happy kittie. My place was left in great condition and she was great to communicate with. I would definitely recommend her for your fur babies.”

“Erica was great! She seems to have the right amount of patience for my two scaredy-cats such that it didn't take them too long to come around and spend time with her. I really appreciated getting regular updates (including pictures). My cats (and my house) seemed well-cared for when I got home. I would definitely hire Erica for cat and house sitting again.”

“Shannon is a lovely person, and she did an excellent job of communicating while with my two dogs, which made me feel reassured. The dogs loved her, and we've already booked her for another stay.”

“As my first time using the service Lorraine answered my questions promptly. She arrived as planned. She took amazing care of our Mylo he is only 10 week and has a lot of energy and she understood his needs. I was gone for 11 hour she kept great communication and sent pictures. Our home was in the exact order as when we left! I will use Lorraine again and recommend her.”

Csilla was amazing!! She communicated with me while I was away sending me pictures of the cats and how they were doing which really bit me at ease. She also helped clean up a bit and left my place feeling cleaner than it was when I left. I’ll definetly be booking her again

Angela was just excellent, easily ranking five stars. She was very attentive to our dog Fillmore, and it was clear that they formed a genuine connection. She made an extra effort to maintain his normal routine, including joining our neighbours for walks so he could continue spending time with his regular dog friends. She kept our home very clean and well cared for and sent us plenty of photos and updates throughout the stay, which was greatly appreciated and reassuring. We came home to a happy, relaxed, and well-cared-for dog and a spotless house. I would have absolutely no hesitation in having Angela pet sit for us again and highly recommend her to others.

You know, you hear horror stories about rover and I was hesitant to use it, but I looked for highly rated / reviewed persons and still entered this skeptically, but honestly, Keely was absolutely wonderful. Not only did she take excellent care of my spicy baby, she actually managed to pet her and get close to her! She sent photo updates, communicated everything that went on, and was just such a sweet genuine human being. 20/10, would recommend and ask her to watch Cleo again.

We have had the pleasure of having Ishan help take care of our Old English Sheepdog on several occasions. Each time, the care that Ishan provides has been excellent. Our OES clearly thinks so too with how excited he is to see Ishan each time. Thank you for the excellent service you provide.

I can't say enough good things about Sabrina's pet-sitting services! She was reliable, always responded quickly, took excellent care of our cat (including giving her medication), and was adaptable when our travel plans changed last-minute - and when we returned home from our trip, the house looked cleaner than when we left! We also really appreciated that Sabrina provided daily updates at our request, either by video call or by sending pictures/video of our cat, who always looked cuddly and happy. Sabrina is very highly recommended!
Jude was beyond amazing. We have never left our dogs before and they can be a little overwhelming at first! 3 Great Pyrenees ranging from 7mos-3 years. He handled their chaos and excitement beautifully upon meeting them at the meet and greet, and put us at ease right away. Of course the dogs calm down after a few minutes of crazy, but at no point did he make us feel like he wouldn't be able to handle it. And true to form, they took to him right away. We have never spent a night away from them and he sent us lots of pictures and videos to get us through. The dogs were happy and healthy when we got home. We requested constant care, with minimal time away (not exceeding 6hrs at a time) as it was their first time with an overnight sitter, and he exceeded our expectations by a mile! He was right on time for both the meet and greet and the day of the sit, and communicated when he was stepping out for a bit (not gone for long at all! Totally reasonable!) He tidied up after himself and even made sure the air conditioning was on for us when we got home (it was going to be a warm evening) so we and the dogs could stay cool the night we got home. He even brought a package in for me. Just overall took fantastic care of our home and our babies. GP's are known to bark a lot, and ours are no exception. Instead of getting frustrated with them when he had a phone meeting, he gave them a good treat to keep them quiet and busy...he is very in tune with how to handle large breed dogs famously known for their independence and goofiness. It was the perfect experience all around and we will be using his services as often as we can. You will not regret hiring him for a second! Hopefully just not when we need him because I can't imagine leaving the dogs with anyone else! THANK YOU JUDE!!!! -Allison, Amy, Bear, Lilly, and Tater

Andrea did an excellent job of taking care of our two boys. They seemed very happy with her when we got home. She shared information and photos regularly. She went above expectations to take care of a minor health issue which came up. We would recommend her highly.

Noah was fantastic with my Chihuahua. He provided regular updates and pictures throughout the weekend. He was flexible with my delay returning home. My apartment was clean upon return. Most importantly, my baby was happy and healthy. Thank you so much Noah!

Ash was an excellent dog and house sitter. Our dog took to her right away. In the past he did not do well when we left him but with Ash he seemed comfortable as soon as he met her. I would definitely have Ash take care of our boy again. Also appreciated the feedback and the pictures. Thank you so much Ash!

Christina was amazing! I really felt like she was someone I could trust upon meeting her, and my dog took to her right away. She sent me updates and pictures regularly. We also had to deal with pretty cold weather while I was away, but she worked with me to make sure my dog would get extra play time since he couldn’t walk far. She left my place super clean! Will definitely book her again in the future.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Gatineau maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Gatineau walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Gatineau choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 90% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 93% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
