We’ve been incredibly lucky to have such a kind and reliable dog walker for our two pups, Joey and Poopsie. From the beginning, it was clear how thoughtful and attentive Mikhail is—not just with the dogs, but with communication and scheduling as well. Mikhail takes the time to get to know each dog’s personality and needs, and it shows. Joey can be a bit anxious, and Poopsie has her quirks, but he handles them both with such care and patience. The daily updates and photos are always appreciated and it’s clear our dogs genuinely look forward to their walks. It’s such a relief to know they’re in good hands. We wholeheartedly recommend Mikhail to anyone looking for someone who treats your pets like their own!

About: I’ve always loved caring for a variety of animals. From cats, dogs, rabbits, and chickens I’ve always been quite the adaptable guardian. I began a small dog-walking business at 11 and have owned animals for as long as I can remember. I understand most of their needs and am always willing to understanding their quirks and personalities. I make it my mission to handle beloved pets with utter respect and compassion. I currently attend university full-time but have lots of time in-between to care for your pet! I am home most weekdays after 12 and am available (and flexible) on weekends. I have a pet-friendly residence for those looking for boarding and can reassure you that there are ample amounts of parks near me to walk your cute dog! My house is relatively quiet, very clean, and welcoming.

About: I have never known a life without dogs and cats in my family. I have cared for dogs of all ages and sizes. I volunteered with my local shelter to walk adoptable dogs and attended training lessons with my own dog. I have experience giving a dog a bath and could even go on a small jog with a dog if desired. I love going for walks around the neighbourhood and miss being able to bring my dog down to the lake. I would love to give some attention to dogs in the Ottawa area whose parents are out for the day. I have a few online classes throughout the week, but my afternoons are fairly open, and I'm looking for something to fill that time. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I have early mornings and evenings, whereas on Mondays and Wednesdays, I have the entire afternoon available. I am very cautious about locking doors and leaving things within reach of dogs, and I can get dogs into crates if required. I have a small apartment, so I would not be looking to bring animals here, but I am a very responsible and organized individual.

About: I grew up on a farm in southwestern Ontario and have always been surrounded by animals of all sized. I'm very comfortable around animals as small as a chick, and as big as a horse. Fun fact: all animals have boop-able features. Furry friends are the best! For the last 8 years, I have volunteered with a local dog rescue as a foster, offering my home as a safe refuge for dogs being welcomed into care. Each of them ended up in care with a different story. I've had the honour of fostering and finding homes for 14 foster dogs (and counting!). I've trained puppies as young as 4-5 weeks old until they were ready for adoption, cared for senior, and softened reactive dogs. I've gone on dog walks around the block that took 45 minutes because we focused on desensitization training at their pace. I'll sit on front porches with dogs for an hour to get them acclimated to a new neighbourhood. And, I give fantastic belly rubs and ear scratches. I understand how important training and routine is, and will work with you to understand how I can support your dog's goals during my care. I have a full-time daytime job with flexibility in the early morning, during lunchtime, in the late afternoon, and in the evening. I am open to solidifying a regular walk schedule, short terms, or one offs. I love to establish a rapport with you and your dog(s) to facilitate a successful walk. Tell me all about their habits, silly quirks, favourite treats, leash abilities, and any goals you're working towards. I endeavour to fit seamlessly into routines. Walks are a time for exercise, enrichment, and stimulation for dogs, and I love guiding them through (presumably) one of their favourite parts of the day!

Whether you want a solo or group walk depends on your dog's personality. Solo walks can be beneficial for dog parents with reactive dogs, puppies, or dogs who are anxious around unfamiliar animals. Many dog walkers on Rover offer private, one-on-one walking services.

Group walks are a good fit for social dogs who enjoy structured walks. If your dog prefers the energy of a group stroll, ask your dog walker about group walks in Ottawa. Since all dog walkers are local, they may have a neighbourhood dog who is a good walking companion to yours.

Tip: Keep in mind that many cities in Canada require your dog walker to have a permit or licence for group walks.

For dog walking services, you can request a report card update with specifics about your dog’s walk. Report cards require photos and can include a map of the walking route , total walk time, poop and pee breaks, and distance travelled, so you know exactly where your dog has been walking in Ottawa.

While Rover doesn’t offer traditional subscription services, some sitters offer recurring bookings for services like home visits, dog walking, and doggy day care. Recurring services come with their own perks, such as flexibility to modify services (up to five weeks in advance), automatic billing, Rover card updates, and same-day cancellations.

To find walkers in Ottawa with recurring or weekly availability, select "Repeat Weekly" and which days you’d like them to care for your pet.

Every walker on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement walker.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a walker. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your walker or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your walker questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and walkers on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ottawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find walkers who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 92% of walkers can help with special care needs
  • 88% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
