Katie was a wonderful house/dog sitter for our two dogs. They were well cared for and loved while we were away. That was very evident when we came home to two happy and relaxed dogs. It was very clear that Katie spent a great deal of time with them. Such a plus! We really appreciated the updates/photos, and she was so kind to answer all my questions. This was the first time we used Rover. We were very apprehensive and had some trepidation prior to leaving. However, Katie far exceeded my expectations. We’s absolutely have Katie (if she would agree) watch our dogs again. Thank you, Katie! 🐶

Camila was great with our Rocky. She took him for walks and sent us at least 2 pictures a day. The pictures always put me at ease because he either looked happy as he was in the middle of a walk or playing or content as he snuggled near her. He clearly enjoyed having her stay with him while we were away because he was looking for her in our spare bedroom later that night!

About: Growing up on a farm my whole life, I have had experience caring for any animal you could imagine, from dogs and cats to sheep and rabbits! I currently work in home management/family assistance as well as part time for my partners business, however I love having time in between work to assist families with dog walking/daily drop-ins for cats & dogs! I currently rent in a location that is very dog friendly; very close to a downtown park and plenty of space to walk around my 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. I would love to put your mind at ease while you are simply at work or heading to a weekend trip that your fur baby is in good hands!

Zach was the perfect choice for our dog and cat. After meeting with Zach, we immediately felt relief and comfort that he would be watching over our animals. Zach is responsible, friendly, and great with animals. It was clear that he had a good read on our dog and that they would be a good fit for each other. He kept us updated with what was happening along with pictures and videos, both of which made it clear that our pets were happy, enjoying themselves, and well cared for. I can't recommend Zach enough. Thanks for taking such good care of our animals!

I am so glad I found Dahn to take care of my pups. I’ll say she is fabulous, my pups welcomed her as part of our family, she is very charismatic, my pups felt all good vibes about her. I can’t thank her enough for coming over for a meet and greet before the booking to make sure my pups and I felt comfortable. As a dog mom I make sure a millions times the person taking care of them is trustworthy and She is!!. Definitely book with her. She sent me lots of pictures, and she even took the time to read to them to make them feel calm and they loved it! I’ll definitely take her advice of reading to them. She is very sweet and kind my pups just loved her very much. I’ll absolutely book with her again. You won’t regret leaving your pups in such a good hands. Thank you so much again Dahn.

Josh was a fantastic sitter, and we had a great experience with him. He house sat for us and took excellent care of our cat. What really stood out was how quickly he bonded with our cat who is typically very shy to meet new people. He was reliable, communicative, and clearly very comfortable around animals. We came home to a happy, well-cared-for cat and a house that was just as we left it. Overall, Josh did a wonderful job, and we would definitely hire him again in the future!

We had to leave our goldendoodle for three days while out of state. She had not been left alone since being boarded at our vet 4 years ago, so we had concerns. Heather was wonderful! She came to our house twice before we left to learn our dog's habits and become familiar with her. Heather stayed at our home during our time away. She followed our dog's schedule to perfection (feeding time, potty time, nap time, bed time, play time, etc.). The day after our return, our dog was looking around for Heather. Heather also updated us regularly, including photos. I would recommend her highly, and hope to use her again.

About: Hi, I’m Jessica. My love for animal care started in 2018 when my family rescued our dog, Chase, from a puppy mill in Pennsylvania. Helping him feel safe, understood, and confident pushed me to learn more about dog body language, temperament, leash behavior, and how to care for each dog based on their needs. I originally entered college as a pre-veterinary Animal Science major and gained hands-on experience with animals, including sheep. I also competed in UConn’s Little I competition and placed second. Later, I shifted toward human medicine and changed my major to Allied Health Sciences on the pre-med track, but my love for animals never left. I also worked as a kennel assistant, where I cared for pets in a boarding environment and learned how important routine, safety, patience, and clear instructions are. Dogs are my strongest area, but I also have experience with cats and small animals through feeding and basic care. For pets with more specific needs, I’m very willing to learn and follow your instructions carefully. Before caring for your pet, I’d love to know their routine, temperament, walking style, triggers, favorite activities, nervous habits, and how they do around other dogs, cats, strangers, children, loud noises, or new environments. Whether your pet is energetic, shy, reactive, slow to warm up, or just very particular, I’d rather know upfront so I can care for them safely and calmly. I’m available for walks, drop-ins, feeding, playtime, companionship, and basic routine reinforcement. I’m not a professional trainer, but I’m happy to follow the commands and routines you already use. My goal is to keep your pet safe, comfortable, loved, and cared for while giving you clear updates and peace of mind. My schedule is currently flexible, especially for drop-ins and walks. I’m usually available during morning, afternoon, and evening time blocks, and I do my best to plan visits in a way that gives each pet enough time, patience, and attention. I’m also happy to discuss your pet’s usual routine so I can keep things as consistent as possible while you’re away. In a client’s home, I care for pets by following their normal routine as closely as possible. I pay attention to doors, gates, leashes, food instructions, litter areas, water bowls, and anything the owner tells me is important. I also like to know about each pet’s temperament, triggers, hiding spots, leash behavior, and comfort level with new people so I can keep the visit safe and calm. For walks, I make sure pets are securely leashed before leaving the home and avoid unnecessary interactions with unknown dogs or people unless the owner says otherwise. I’m patient with shy, nervous, excited, or slower-to-warm-up pets, and I’d rather move carefully than rush them. I’ll also send clear updates, so you know how your pet is doing.

About: I’ve had cats since I was 13 and have many years of hands-on experience caring for cats with different personalities and needs. I was able to help an older rescue cat become comfortable and affectionate over time, which taught me patience and how to build trust with shy or nervous cats. I currently have a tortie of my own, so I understand how important routines, playtime, and a calm environment are. I treat every cat like my own and make sure they feel safe, cared for, and loved while you’re away. I work full-time as a paraprofessional from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays and am currently earning my master’s degree in elementary education. I’m available for pet care visits in the late afternoons and evenings after 4:30 PM, as well as weekends and school breaks. For cat sitting, I’m happy to stay for extended visits and can sit with your cat while I complete my schoolwork so they have calm companionship and supervision while you’re away. My schedule is consistent and dependable, and I always prioritize keeping pets comfortable and on their normal routine. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I make sure to follow their normal routines closely so they feel comfortable and secure while their owners are away. I provide feeding, litter box care, playtime, and calm companionship during visits. As a paraprofessional and graduate student in elementary education, I’m responsible, patient, and attentive to details and instructions. I also communicate regularly with updates so owners feel confident their pets are safe, cared for, and relaxed.

I can't say enough great things about our experience! From the moment we met, it was clear that our dogs were in caring, capable hands. We received regular updates, photos, and messages that gave us complete peace of mind while we were away. Our dogs came home happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. It was obvious they received plenty of love, attention, and exercise. The communication was excellent throughout the entire stay, and every detail was handled professionally. If you're looking for someone trustworthy, reliable, and who genuinely loves animals, I highly recommend Carm. We will absolutely be booking with them again. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of our pups!

FAQs for House Sitting - Ansonia

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Ansonia on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 2,063 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ansonia. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ansonia walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ansonia maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ansonia choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Ansonia. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
