“Kristen was the best dog sitter we’ve had! She went above and beyond to care for our sweet boy and watch over our house too. We were able to enjoy our time away and know that he was well cared for. We greatly appreciated it. Will definitely book again!”

About: I have had dogs my entire life. I have taken care of my own dogs as well as friends and neighbors. I have experience with labs, golden retrievers, German shepherds, Rottweilers, and pit bulls mostly but love all dogs. I currently work full time Monday-Friday (this is important to note when booking me for house sitting) and would love to help people with walking their pets/letting them out after work or on the weekends. I can’t have pets in my apartment and greatly miss interacting with dogs! I am very respectful of other people’s homes. I am clean and appreciate instructions/rules on where food, collars/leashes, treats, etc are. I will keep your furry companions company, provide long walks, and scratches of course!
“Jim went above and beyond for us when we were in a pinch. Not only did he take great care of our dog but he also cleaned and did dishes for us that we had left in a hurry to head to a wedding. Jim was awesome and I would absolutely recommend him and utilize his services again in a heartbeat!”

“Julianne was super responsive and sent a number of photos of our dog! She stayed in our home and we came back to it being cleaner than we left it! Julianne is super kind and we will definitely use her again!”

About: I've always had a natural connection with dogs since childhood. Dogs have always gravitated to my calm energy and ability to sense their needs. Your dog will not just be taken care of but will feel safe like they're spending time with an old friend. Retired computer nerd and musician available for dog walking and house visits most days of the week. Some dogs are welcome in our home with fenced in yard and 5 y.o. yellow lab Norma for playtime and companionship. My wife and I live in a wooded area in York with a large fenced in back yard. We are both retired and home most of the day to keep an eye on the pups. I am available for long or short visits to your home for dog walks and exercise to suite your needs. I am an avid walker and walk daily. I am fully insured with pet sitting/walking insurance.
“Melissa was wonderful with our nervous rescue pup. She took the time to get to know her at a pace that made our dog feel comfortable and safe. Melissa followed all of our instructions perfectly and left our home looking immaculate. When our flight home was unexpectedly canceled, Melissa went above and beyond to make sure our dog was well cared for until we made it back. We had complete peace of mind knowing she was there. I think our dog has found a new best friend!”

“I can’t say enough great things about Patrick! He took care of our dog like it was his own & sent many updates. I would highly recommend him to take care of your animals. Looking forward to using his services again!”

“Kristen did a great job taking care of our cat while we were gone, which included giving her medication twice a day. She sent lots of pictures and our cat loved Kristen. We will definitely ask her to watch our cat again in the future!”

“Alex was absolutely amazing! It was our first time leaving our dog who has a lot of quirks and we were super nervous about it, but Alex kept us updated with photos, how he was everyday, and even took him to work with her! I would definitely recommend Alex , and would love to have her watch Teddy in the future:) Thank you!”

About: Kristine and Eric have loved and had animals our entire life. I have always helped care for pets, even as a child. Eric was raised on a farm, caring for many different kinds of animals- waking up before dawn to ensure that all animals were properly cared for and had what they needed for the day whether it be rain, shine, snow, sleet, hot, or cold. We, together, have two dogs. They are both around 10 years old and are rescues. We also have 6 chickens. Our home has a door from the downstairs to the upstairs. When dogs are home during the day and if left alone for 1 hour or so they stay downstairs with access to water, comfy couches, and dog bed areas. When we are home they have free run of the home. We also have a crate for dogs that may need a private, safe space. We have a back yard that our dog enjoys playing in, but just so you know it is not fenced in, therefore dogs remain leashed when in the back yard. We do have a deck that is closed off in the backyard where dogs can be left unleashed to hang out, but always supervised when out there. We also have a 15 year old daughter who loves animals. She assists with the care of our dogs and we have fostered a few dogs in the past from various shelters and she is always eager to assist with making these dogs feel comfortable and give them love. She volunteers at a local animal shelter with small mammals and takes care of the chickens I work full time during the school year for a school district. Eric works from home. Eric takes dogs for a number of walks per day including walks to the local dog park (Rogers Park) and to local beaches for exercise and socialization. I am home by 3:30 pm and bring my dogs (and other dogs) for exercise either running, hiking, or walking. In the summer I am mostly around. I also grew up with cats and with both have experience with cats and providing meds to cats, including insulin shots. I work full time and Eric works part to full time but we can walk dogs in the evening and walk dogs throughout the day on the weekends. I have summers off as I work in a school. I will not be offering care in my home, but am excited to take care of your pet and walk your dog and take your dog on adventures.
“Ashley was lovely and arrived on time. It was our first, but won't be our last. Her personality is very chill, which is a perfect compliment to looking after Whippets. So happy to have someone we can call now.”

“We did a little one night test run with Teresa for our pup who has pretty bad separation anxiety and it went so well! Our very excitable pup was instantly calm upon meeting Teresa for the first time and settled in so well. Teresa is super communicative and we felt totally comfortable having her stay in our home. We’re so glad to have found a reliable sitter!”

“Katherine was great - she stayed overnight at our house and she took great care of our animals and house. She kept us updated with pictures and videos of all the animals. She was very flexible when we were returning home and her communication was overall excellent. We'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to care for their animals!”

Carys did a fantastic job sitting our cat for 10 days! She has an intuitive way of communicating with animals that came across during our first meeting and reassured us that he was in safe hands. She also left our house spotless and clean which was a lovely touch after a long journey home. Couldn't recommend her enough!!!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred York walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in York. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
