“Sofia was excellent. She kept us informed each day we were gone with pictures and a text to let us know that our dog was doing well. Sofia is very good with communication, and she left our house spotless. We will definitely contact her the next time we need a dog sitter.”

“This is the first time I’ve used Rover, and it certainly will not be the last. I was so lucky to find Karen, who lives in my town, responded quickly to my first email, and came over to meet my 3-year-old chocolate lab that same afternoon. Within a few minutes, my dog was basking in Karen’s attention and letting me know that she would be happy and comfortable spending time in Karen’s care. Karen made sure my energetic dog got plenty of exercise and sent pictures every day while I was gone. I came home to a happy dog and a peaceful house. My dog and I are both hoping to have a continuing relationship with Karen.”

“This was our first time using Rover, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Michael. He was incredibly conscientious in our home and followed all of our instructions to a T. Our two dogs can be anxious when left alone and require a detailed routine, and Michael was great about following our protocol exactly, which we really appreciated. He kept in regular contact, sending daily updates and photos, which helped us feel at ease while we were away. On top of that, he went above and beyond by even stripping the bed before leaving. Michael was kind, reliable, and clearly great with dogs—we feel so lucky to have found him and would absolutely book him again!”

“Julianne was absolutely incredible with my dog, Lily, during a very challenging house-sitting stay while I was out of town. Lily struggles with separation anxiety and can be extremely slow to warm up to new people, and the first couple of days were honestly tough. Julianne handled everything with so much patience, compassion, calmness, and professionalism. She stayed in constant communication with me, provided thoughtful updates, problem-solved creatively, collaborated with neighbors Lily trusted, adjusted her approach based on Lily’s comfort level, and never once made me feel like Lily was ‘too much.’ Even through some anxious/reactive moments, she remained patient, understanding, and committed to helping Lily feel safe and secure. By the end of the stay, Lily was cuddling with her, walking with her, and happily spending time together. That turnaround says everything. Julianne genuinely cares about animals and goes far above and beyond what most sitters would do. I would absolutely trust her again and highly recommend her, especially for anxious or more complicated dogs.”

“James was amazing! He went above and beyond and his son taught us a new trick, that we have been working on with our pup! Would absolutely have James watch our pup in the future!”

“Claire is the best cat sitter we’ve had. She is attentive and takes great care of both our cat and our house. She is a great communicator. Our cat absolutely loves her. We would recommend Claire to anyone in need of a cat sitter.”

“Katherine was great - she stayed overnight at our house and she took great care of our animals and house. She kept us updated with pictures and videos of all the animals. She was very flexible when we were returning home and her communication was overall excellent. We'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to care for their animals!”

About: Kristine and Eric have loved and had animals our entire life. I have always helped care for pets, even as a child. Eric was raised on a farm, caring for many different kinds of animals- waking up before dawn to ensure that all animals were properly cared for and had what they needed for the day whether it be rain, shine, snow, sleet, hot, or cold. We, together, have two dogs. They are both around 10 years old and are rescues. We also have 6 chickens. Our home has a door from the downstairs to the upstairs. When dogs are home during the day and if left alone for 1 hour or so they stay downstairs with access to water, comfy couches, and dog bed areas. When we are home they have free run of the home. We also have a crate for dogs that may need a private, safe space. We have a back yard that our dog enjoys playing in, but just so you know it is not fenced in, therefore dogs remain leashed when in the back yard. We do have a deck that is closed off in the backyard where dogs can be left unleashed to hang out, but always supervised when out there. We also have a 15 year old daughter who loves animals. She assists with the care of our dogs and we have fostered a few dogs in the past from various shelters and she is always eager to assist with making these dogs feel comfortable and give them love. She volunteers at a local animal shelter with small mammals and takes care of the chickens I work full time during the school year for a school district. Eric works from home. Eric takes dogs for a number of walks per day including walks to the local dog park (Rogers Park) and to local beaches for exercise and socialization. I am home by 3:30 pm and bring my dogs (and other dogs) for exercise either running, hiking, or walking. In the summer I am mostly around. I also grew up with cats and with both have experience with cats and providing meds to cats, including insulin shots. I work full time and Eric works part to full time but we can walk dogs in the evening and walk dogs throughout the day on the weekends. I have summers off as I work in a school. I will not be offering care in my home, but am excited to take care of your pet and walk your dog and take your dog on adventures.
“Kristen was wonderful with my two Springer Spaniels. She communicated regularly, was very conscientious, and they clearly loved their time with her. I will happily use her anytime she is available.”

About: I have had dogs my entire life. I have taken care of my own dogs as well as friends and neighbors. I have experience with labs, golden retrievers, German shepherds, Rottweilers, and pit bulls mostly but love all dogs. I currently work full time Monday-Friday (this is important to note when booking me for house sitting) and would love to help people with walking their pets/letting them out after work or on the weekends. I can’t have pets in my apartment and greatly miss interacting with dogs! I am very respectful of other people’s homes. I am clean and appreciate instructions/rules on where food, collars/leashes, treats, etc are. I will keep your furry companions company, provide long walks, and scratches of course!

“I can’t say enough great things about Patrick! He took care of our dog like it was his own & sent many updates. I would highly recommend him to take care of your animals. Looking forward to using his services again!”

About: I’ve been helping a friend who has a dog walking business. Sprightly Paws and have enjoyed it so much. We are both members of the Exeter Run Club. My black lab has passed and I miss time spent with dogs. I’m retired and have plenty of time to enjoy walking dogs. Preferably Mon- Fri but sometimes available on weekends. If your dog likes to run, depending on your location I’m happy to run with them. I’m only available for dog walking. I don’t offer any dog sitting or daycare services. I live in Durham,NH right on the Newmarket line.
“Alex was absolutely amazing! It was our first time leaving our dog who has a lot of quirks and we were super nervous about it, but Alex kept us updated with photos, how he was everyday, and even took him to work with her! I would definitely recommend Alex , and would love to have her watch Teddy in the future:) Thank you!”

About: I love dogs and have a beautiful almost 9 yo 1/2 Lab 1/2 GSP of my own who I fostered and then adopted February 2018; she will gladly keep your dog company and busy playing at my home. I have a large fenced in back yard 2 miles from downtown Portsmouth with plenty of room for the dogs to play and run around in. I am recently retired from Corp Amer, and am home with the dogs so they won’t be left alone. I will only take up to 3 dogs (dogs must be over 2 years of age and show zero signs of any aggression) in at a time for day care and 1 or 2 for boarding so your dog will get plenty of love and one on one attention. My prices may be a little bit higher than other people on this app, but that is because I’m only taking one or two dogs at a time and your dog is getting 1:1 care versus being in a rowdy kennel type environment with several dogs around. You can rest assured knowing I will care for your pets better than most. When I am walking your dog, I will engage with them, give them loads of attention, and will not be looking at/reading my phone. There are toys and tennis balls for them to play with in the yard and they will be let out every 2 hours for potty breaks and play, and can lounge around on the couches if they feel like it too. If they are 100% trained with recall, we go for 2 off leash trail enrichment hikes/ walks per day, otherwise they can be walked on leash around my neighborhood. At bed time, I play soft spa like music so the pups can sleep well and comfortable. I would like to have a meet and greet with all dogs and owners before they board at my home. My daycare rates are for up to 8 hours per day. If you drop your dog off at 8:30am, the dog must be picked up by 4:30pm otherwise you will be charged an additional half day rate. Latest pickup is 6:30pm. After 6:30pm it becomes an overnight. Drop offs must be before 6pm. I cater to dogs that need a little extra support and don’t do well in a chaotic kennel environment, which is why it is more of a “boutique “style service. (1:1) At the most, I might pop out for an hour but the dogs will not be left alone for more than an hour or 2 max. I have a large crate here if your dogs likes to be crated. I am not currently housesitting, only taking dogs in at my home. I do not book out months in advance. I generally only book out 1-2 months in advance. I am now currently only booking through Aug 2026. I let the dogs out every couple of hours for potty breaks and play. I will only take in 2-3 dogs max for daycare at a time and one or two dogs at a time for overnights, as to not overwhelm any of the dogs. This is a relaxed stress free environment for the dogs. I do not take in any dogs that show any signs of aggression.

Erin and Amanda were fantastic! I booked them for boarding and they took great care of my pets and home. They were very flexible, responsive, caring and insightful. They got to know the particulars for my dog quickly despite it being their first time with him. Very thankful for their care.

Teresa took care of my cat for just under a week, in my home. He is an orange tabby; need i say more? Moo bestowed his highest honor on Teresa, by sleeping ON her most nights; graciously, Teresa obliged him! Communication was good. I received daily updates and pictures and she did not hesitate to reach out when she had questions (the cat was temporarily on meds), My home was in great shape when i returned.

Jim went above and beyond for us when we were in a pinch. Not only did he take great care of our dog but he also cleaned and did dishes for us that we had left in a hurry to head to a wedding. Jim was awesome and I would absolutely recommend him and utilize his services again in a heartbeat!

Will is the best! We use him often for drop in visits and he did an overnight stay at our place for the first time (our first time having anyone dog sit in our home) and I know the pups were happy! He gives updates and asks questions as needed. Left our place spotless. We will book him again soon!

Kristen is great. She housesat and took amazing care of our dog and bird. Like most pet parents our pets have idiosyncrasies (or maybe that's just us) and she was very accommodating and kept us informed on activities daily. She also was a highly conscientious house sitter leaving things better than when she arrived. We will definitely use Kristen again. Not only did we like her but our dog has a favorite new friend.

Erin was great! We have two dogs and a cat that she took care of. They all warmed up and had a fun time while we were gone. Erin sent daily updates with photos and took great care of the house. Happy to recommend her services and we’ll definitely use her again if the need comes up! We had not used Rover before, happy with the app and service as well.

Sylvie was fantastic! She was a great communicator, sent photos and videos, and braved some awful New England weather to walk our dog Luna. She played with our cat Dusty, left our house spotless, and even washed her bedding, which we really appreciated. We would definitely ask her to take care of Dusty and Luna again. Highly recommend!

We booked Kate to house sit for the first time over a 2 day weekend. How lucky we were! Kate responds immediately to texts, arrived on time for a meet & great and instantly became a BFF with our 2 dogs, arrived on time for 2 night stay, very responsible and house was spotless when we came back. She was super flexible and easy to work with. Dogs still miss her as every morning they are still going into the room she slept in to look for her. Very much look forward to booking her again.

Stephanie is incredible! She is a dog-loving, capable person who took excellent care of both of our dogs, including one senior dog. She stayed at our house and treated our home and doggos with love and respect. She is responsive, easy to communicate with, and a quick-study when it came to learning our dogs’ schedules and needs. Definitely plan to work with her again (if our schedules align)!

Eddy stayed with our German Shepherd over the Thanksgiving holiday and treated her to a wonderful weekend with lots of walking, running, and snuggling. We needed help last minute because she was in heat and didn’t feel comfortable boarding her - Eddy came through and wasn’t fazed by any of the many instructions we had for her, or her puppy craziness. He sent lots of updates and we knew she was in great hands. Absolutely would recommend him!

Michael was absolutely wonderful with our boys this weekend. Dennis is in a delicate stage of his leg recovery and requires extra attention, and Michael was incredibly conscientious, following every instruction, giving careful supervision, and keeping us updated so we never had to worry. Both dogs were happy, relaxed, and clearly well loved. We’re so grateful for his care and will gladly book with him again!

Carlie was wonderful!! A family wedding caused all normal dog sitters to be unavailable. Carlie came to meet my adult children’s’ dogs at my house where she ended up watching them over a long weekend. She was extremely responsive and the dogs loved her!! I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Renee was amazing with our two dogs! She kept in touch the whole time and really understood what they needed. She even took them on some extra walks, which they loved! We’d absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a kind, caring, and reliable sitter.

Amanda took excellent care of my puppy. My pup is 4 months old - aka a busy little dog who needs to be watched. Amanda gave her heaps of attention and knew all the puppy tricks to encourage good behavior. I highly recommend her to take care of your dog. She also took great care of my house.

We had Melody watch our dogs while we were away recently and she was amazing! The pups were well cared for and happy when we got home, which says a lot. She sent us daily updates with pictures, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were gone. On top of that, she helped out around the house by taking out the trash, washing the bedding she used, and even resetting a breaker when the bathroom power went out. That wasn’t something we ever expected her to have to deal with, but she took care of it anyway, which we really appreciated. Melody is super reliable, thoughtful, and easy to work with. We’re so glad we found her and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a great sitter.

FAQs for House Sitting - Kittery
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Kittery on Rover is $67.72 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 713 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Kittery. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Kittery walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Kittery maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Kittery choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Kittery. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
