About: I'm Rachel, a writer with a flexible schedule and a love of all things canine. I live with my husband, and my chocolate Labrador retriever, Ellie, in our West Shore cabin near Homewood. I signed up for Rover because dog sitting helps me get my fix for having a doggy harem. I would love to shower your dog with attention and affection. I volunteer at the local humane society, so I'm very adept at adapting to your dog's needs. I particularly love active dogs, and I'm happy to take your pup on hikes and swims in the lake. I'm also happy to hang out and have a more relaxing day with older, less active pups. Ellie (13) is very well-socialized, and she gets along well with dogs of all sizes. I work from home with a very flexible schedule, so I’m always happy to go out for a walk or a hike. Ellie, my 13-year-old Lab, is always up for meeting a new dog friend. Daycare Rates & Information: Daycare is up to 8 hours of care. Anything longer than that time, please book a boarding stay. Drop-offs anytime after 8 a.m. Pickups before 8 p.m. Although there is a nice buffer of woods near my house, the yard is not fenced (hopefully soon). I’ll be sure to keep your pup on a leash just in case! There’s an enclosed deck for sunbathing and watching chipmunks.
About: I have lots of dog experience, I’m a runner as well if you want your dog real tired. I also grew up with a Great Pyrenees and a shitzu so size does not matter to me. I’ve trained all my dogs growing up and have lots of animal care experience Mornings and evenings I do work a 9-5, but on weekends I am more flexible. I usually run in the evening as well if you’re looking for a harder workout I try to burn as many calories, give as much attention and love, then challenge their brains as well so they’re not bored. Sniff walks are big!

About: I have grown up with dogs and the daily walks are always my favorite time with them. As a college student I would love to help others and have some time outside with a pet! I also have a year of experience fostering, taking care of a wide array of puppy to elderly dogs. I am available before and after my Cal Poly classes as well as all day most weekends. My class schedule is typically 11-3 Monday through Friday. I understand the pets needs and always stop to smell (pee on) the roses. I am aware of traffic, other dogs, and behavioral triggers through a walk.
About: Hello, I am a local who lives full time in Tahoe City. I've been a pet owner with both dogs and cats for the last 30+years. I am a mother of two grown children that are now off away at school. I work at the local elementary school with young children of special needs. I am a fun, caring and loving person who loves both animals and humans. I am free to take care of your pet most days, nights and some weekends. I work from home during the summer months so my schedule is always flexible. I currently live in a condo down the street from Lake Tahoe. There are numerous parks at the lake as well as many hiking trails to walk your dog at that are close by my place. I will always walk your dogs on a leash unless otherwise informed by owner to let run free in the woods and trails. I am very safe and responsible.
About: I’ve grown up with pets (dogs, cats, & horses) and have always enjoyed having a pet around. Looking to help others who might need a check in or extra walk with their pet during the day or while they’re out on the hill making some turns. I work from home & own a business in town. Always out and about and happy to make an extra stop to check in on a furry friend along the way. I was raised with walking my dog on a leash, and I still believe that is the safest method for a dog when outside walking around the neighborhood or on bike paths. When working with new dogs (or cats) if the area is not fenced in, a leash or harness will be requested so the pets safety is ensured. After creating a relationship with the pet, off leash walks are doable on trails.
About: I started fostering puppies in my early 20’s, have always had a roommate with a dog who I would take care of when they were out of town, got my own dog 3 years ago, and am always happiest when hiking/walking or snuggling on the couch with as many dogs as possible! I’m in Tahoe just for the winter, have a part time job but have tons of availability and flexibility. I take my dog on a long walk everyday, she’s super friendly and loves company! I have a fenced in yard, and a dog who absolutely loves friends. My roommate also have 3 dogs who enjoy having friends as well, the more the merrier in our house! Lots of snuggles, playtime with fur friends, lots of walks and outdoor time and no shortage of affection from humans!

About: I’ve grown up surrounded by dogs my entire life, which means caring for four-legged family members is second nature to me. As my family and friend’s resident dog sitter, I have hands on experience with pups of all shapes, sizes, and personalities from high energy giants to tiny couch potatoes. I am passionate about keeping dogs active and healthy, so you can count on me to provide plenty of outdoor time and engaging walks. I look forward to meeting your furry friend and providing them with a safe, fun, and loving environment while you're away! As a full-time remote worker, my schedule is highly flexible! Pet care fits seamlessly into my day, allowing me to offer reliable windows for walks and drop-ins. My 'portable' office also makes me a great fit for house sitting, as I can work right from your home and keep your pet company. Weekends are equally open and flexible for whatever your pet needs! I believe the best environment for a pet is one that closely mirrors their usual routine. Whether I am house sitting or dropping in, I strictly follow your specific guidelines for feeding and house rules. During house sittings and drop-ins, I respect your home as if it were my own—keeping things clean, secure, and locked up. When we are out on walks, your dog will always be kept on a secure, standard leash, and I maintain a strict 'no greeting' policy with unfamiliar dogs to prevent any unpredictable interactions. I am deeply observant of body language to ensure your pet is happy, comfortable, and never stressed. I also believe that communication builds trust, so you can always expect timely photo updates and detailed Rover cards after every visit!
About: I grew up with dogs and have grew more and more responsible for taking care of them as I got older. My mom also owns a dog watching company back home in Lake Tahoe, so we constantly had multiple dogs in our house which I helped her feed ,walk and play with. I am currently working Monday through Thursday but have evenings and mornings open. Friday through Sunday I am very available and always looking for an activity to do outside that the pups can come on. My home has a fenced in yard and tons of indoor space. I also live across from a park the dogs can play in and there are multiple trail heads only steps away l.
“Tish was wonderful with my kitty Mya! This was her first cat sit as she usually only watches dogs, but she was great and Mya is very happy to have a new friend. She was so happy with Tish, I even received plenty of photos from the visits which Mya does not let me take! Highly recommend Tish as a sitter for all pets : )”

“Cynthia was very responsive and flexible for our last minute drop in request. Took great care of our dog! Highly recommended. We will definitely work with her again when we are in town”

About: I have had a pet sitting business since the age of 12 and am now 50. I love animals and am kind of a self proclaimed animal psychic. I can feel their emotions, wants and needs. I have even diagnosed sick pets before they had visited a vet to confirm my guesses. All this to say I am very in tune with animals as they are with me. I would be an excellent choice to take care of your fur-babies. Hi there I look forward to helping you and your animal family. I am currently working from home which allows me the flexibility to provide attentive care, companionship, and frequent potty breaks.I understand that every pet has their own personality, routine, and needs, and I will do my best to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, a nd loved while you're away. I am happy to follow feeding schedules, administer basic medications if needed, provide regular exercise, and send updates and photos so you can have peace of mind. I believe pets are happiest when they can remain in their familiar environment and maintain their normal routines. When caring for pets in a client's home, I take the time to learn their feeding schedule, exercise needs, medications, favorite activities, and any special instructions. I treat every home with the same respect and care I would expect for my own and prioritize keeping pets safe, comfortable, and stress-free while their owners are away. I also provide regular updates and photos so pet parents can have peace of mind knowing their furry family members are happy and well cared for.

About: Compassionate and dependable animal caregiver with 5 years of hands on experience caring for four Goldendoodles and one Black Labrador. Skilled in providing daily care, including feeding, exercise, maintaining routines, and ensuring a safe, healthy environment. Experienced in managing multiple dogs at once, recognizing behavioral cues, and meeting each animal’s unique needs with patience and attention. Dedicated to promoting the well-being, comfort, and happiness of every pet while building trust with both animals and their owners. Pet care fits naturally into my daily and weekly routine because I already enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. I regularly go on runs, walks, hikes, paddle boarding trips, and swimming, and I would love to have a dog accompany me during those activities. Caring for pets would add structure and purpose to my day while also keeping me active and engaged. I also work full time as a medical assistant at Tahoe Forest Health System Monday through Thursday from 5:45 AM to 4:20 PM, so I really value making the most of my time outside of work. Having pet care responsibilities would be a great way for me to stay busy and active after my shifts or on my days off. Since I don’t have much family or many friends in the area, I genuinely enjoy the companionship of animals and would love to build a bond with your pets. Spending time with them would not only keep them happy and exercised, but also keep me motivated, fulfilled, and connected throughout the week. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize keeping their routine as consistent, comfortable, and stress-free as possible. I make sure they are fed on schedule, get plenty of exercise through walks and playtime, and receive lots of attention, companionship, and supervision while in my care. I also pay close attention to their behavior and needs to ensure they feel safe and well cared for in their own environment. When I lived in Cameron Park, I cared for five dogs of my own and kept them all very active through daily walks, outdoor time, and structured routines. Since moving, I no longer have pets of my own due to limited space and financial stability, but my experience with multiple dogs has given me strong hands-on knowledge of managing different personalities and energy levels at once. This experience has helped me stay confident and attentive when caring for other people’s pets, and I treat every animal like they are my own while they are in my care.

About: Hello! I am Colleen and have taken care of dogs my whole life. I currently have a 10 month old puppy who is the sweetest, chillest pup in the world and LOVES other dogs. I also didn’t go out for the first few months since I felt too guilty to leave him overnight + I couldn’t find someone who stayed up late enough for me to just go to dinner or a concert and pick him up after. I’m currently between jobs, so felt like I could help address that gap! I’m happy to watch your pup for a few hours or for a few days and promise to send a ton of pics of them! If you have a pup, Vino is great for socialization efforts as he’s super playful but will also be submissive and lay on his back if there are shyer dogs. He’s also great at showing his friends there’s nothing to worry about. (Ie- my parents couldn’t take their dog to restaurants bc he was so out of sorts. Vino showed him how to just relax and get those belly rubs in ~1 hr). So, let me know if there’s anything he add to the experience! I have a very large roofdeck that dogs love running around and also plenty of time to walk them and take them on adventures. I stay up late and get up early, so pick up and drop off is at your convenience! We usually start the day with a long walk and then head up to the roof for coffee and bird watching. I’ve had blind senior dogs who needed injections and puppies who needed love every 5 minutes and am happy to cater to your individual dogs needs!

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
