“I am so delighted we found Milena as she took such excellent care of our puppy. This was my first time away from the pup and I was getting so anxious about finding someone responsible but after meeting Milena, it was clear she was very knowledgeable and trustworthy - I felt truly reassured Yara would be in terrific hands, which was indeed the case! Milena was quick to respond to my messages, sent me lots of photo updates, and was extra attentive to Yara's wellbeing. We will most definitely be booking Milena's services again!”

“Gabriel is so awesome! He was super attentive to our request when explaining our dogs schedules and quirks. He was always responsive when messaging on the app. He updated us with photos pretty frequently and he was always very direct and was not afraid/unsure to ask questions when they came up. I really appreciated his help. I would book again!”

“Priyanka was amazing with my dog. She followed all the instructions I left her, asked to do a meet and greet, and asked questions about my dog too. I got updates and pictures. I would book her again!!”

“Anna recently watched our two dogs and stayed at our house and was amazing! She sent a ton of pictures of the dogs and updates throughout and they looked so happy with her! She also left the house/yard so clean! Would absolutely recommend Anna for anyone who needs someone to watch their pets!!”

“HIGHLY RECOMMEND KATE! She was such a pleasure to work with. We had a peace of mind while away of her caring for our cats. She would reach out with any questions, yet more importantly would send photos and videos of her interactions with the cats. <3 <3 <3 She was extra helpful with watering plants, too. Need to figure out our next time away to use her again! :)”

About: I’ve been around dogs my entire life and have always had a dog of my own. I genuinely love animals and understand that every dog has their own personality, routine, and needs. I’m comfortable with walks, feeding, playtime, bathing, giving plenty of attention, and keeping pets safe and comfortable. I treat every dog like family and take pride in being patient, dependable, and attentive to their individual needs. Pet care is already a natural part of my daily routine because I have a dog of my own. I’m used to making time for walks, feeding, playtime, and giving my dog plenty of attention and care. I’m active and enjoy spending time outdoors, so adding walks and pet visits into my routine is something I genuinely enjoy rather than see as a chore. I care for pets with the same patience, attention, and respect I give my own dog. In a client’s home, I follow their pet’s normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding, walks, playtime, bathroom breaks, and any special instructions they provide. I make sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owners are away, and I always leave their home clean and secure.
“Luis did a great job looking after our two dogs. He was responsive and clear with communication, and was sensitive in meeting the needs of our dogs. We would happily use his services again.”

“Temi was quickly responsive and was able to help watch my dogs when my last minute trip came up. Thank you so much! He does an amazing job caring for my babies and sending me updates about them. You will not regret booking him to watch your fur babies!”
About: For the past ten years, I’ve been the trusted go‑to pet caregiver for friends and colleagues; whether they’re heading out for a weekend getaway or simply stuck at work longer than expected. I know how hard it can be to trust someone else with your fur-baby, which is why I treat every pet I take care of as if they were my own. I have done everything from daily dog walks and feeding routines to scooping litter, administering medication, and giving plenty of love and attention. I make sure each pet feels safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. Supporting happy, healthy pets brings me so much joy, and I’m committed to giving your furry family member the same level of care you would! I am currently in the process of switching full-time jobs, so my availability is open to daily walks and pet-sitting seven days a week! I will make sure to let you know if my availability changes. I live in an apartment, so all pet care takes place in my client’s home. I know how important trust is, and I treat every pet like my own—following your routines, keeping their space safe and tidy, and making sure they feel comfortable and cared for while you’re away!
“Jordyn did a great job caring for my westie in my home while I was away for a week. She sent updates and pictures. He was well cared for. When I returned home, Jordyn made sure everything was in perfect order! Linus misses her already! We’ll be calling Jordyn again! I highly recommend her!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Short Hills
Alissa was great! With her experience in both human and veterinary medicine, we had total confidence in her watching our medically complex dog. She sent updates and was great with communication. It was clear that our dog had a great time with her! We will definitely book her again.

Abby was absolutely amazing during her stay with our pets. She followed our instructions, was loving and engaging with them and sent pictures daily. She also anticipated needs, which was very helpful. She was trustworthy and reliable. I would recommend her in a heartbeat. We have already booked her again for regular walks
Grace watched our senior pup for a week. He is very boring to watch - he just likes to sleep and hang out (no walks or play - too old for that nonsense anymore lol) Jett is very particular who he likes and he was lying next to Grace by the end of the week! WOW! We are so happy with Grace - always kept us updated on our little guy and was reliable and took care of Jett perfectly! Highly recommend, Grace to watch your babies!

Katie was the absolute best. She went above and beyond for her stay with my high energy pup, taking him on three 2+ mile walks over the course of her stay. She was extremely thorough and detail-oriented, executing each request and keeping our dog on schedule as much as possible. Sending a bunch of pictures and detailed recaps for each visit/walk. We would absolutely love to have Katie watch our dog again!

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 18,681 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Short Hills. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Short Hills walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Short Hills maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Short Hills choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Short Hills. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
