“Elizabeth came highly recommended by another superb housesitter, and she lived up to every expectation. She sent regular check-ins, with photos of our pets showing them calm and content; and we returned to a house in fine order. Thanks, Beth!”

“Michelle was very professional, responsive, reliable, and great with out pets. It gave my husband and I a lot of peace of mind while we were away that our home and pets were being well cared for.”

About: I have been taking care of pets all sizes and ages for over 6 years both in and out of the home. I make it my personal mission to love and care for your babies so you’re able to be away knowing they’re being cared for just the same. I am currently in school and working part time which gives me my evenings and weekends free to take care of your pets. I have my own fur babies at home and one of my own so finding time to take care of others pets when they need it not only benefits you, but also me! I have experience with all types of animals and their routines. I am experienced on crate and litter training, active or non active. I am able to keep up and adapt to any animals needs and create the best routine and environment for them.
“Mikaela did a wonderful job watching our furkids. Our senior dog is on several medications and is beginning to have some mobility issues. Mikaela was very attentive to her schedule and extra needs. She sent lots of pictures and updates throughout the stay. Highly recommend!”

“Cassandra was great with my two senior dogs. They got plenty of attention and snuggles. She seemed very comfortable with taking care of them. The house looked great , also, when I got home. I will not hesitate to use Cassandra again, if I have a need.”

“Riley was able to help us out last minute after our dog sitter cancelled. It was my first time using Rover so was a little nervous but after meeting Riley, we automatically knew our pup was in good hands. Riley was communicative and sent daily pictures so it helped us enjoy vacation knowing we didn’t have to worry about our pup. We would definitely use Riley again and recommend her to anyone!”

“Ben took great care of our pets while we were out of town. I really appreciate the frequent photo updates he provided and how quick he was to respond when we messaged him. The only downside is now our dogs might expect even more walks than we provide them when we’re home.”

If you leave your baby in my hands I will provide good consistent communication, take wonderful care of your animal, and all the love and snuggles needed. I currently work from home for a medicare insurance company, I take a 30 minute lunch daily and work 8 hour shifts. I am able to provide before, during and after work attention to any animal. I am able to do anything that is needed for your dog and or cat. I am able to provide the most reliable, safe, and trusted care for your fur baby.
“Ryn did an incredible dog sitting our yorkie/schnauzer mix who has pretty high separation anxiety. Louie eventually warmed up to her and she kept in contact with updates, easing any worries I had while traveling.”

“Lakyn made sure my dogs were not only provided with their necessities, but also made them feel cared for and loved! I am extremely overbearing with my dogs but did not have a worry knowing they were in such good hands.”

About: I’ve been pet sitting since high school. I hesitantly used this app when I moved to Columbus, and have become a huge fan. I know how scary it can be to trust a stranger with your pet. I’d love to be your trusted partner for when you’re away! I own my own business, which I work remotely, so I am extremely flexible on timing and am available most days to care for your pets! I am adaptable to your pets care needs. I prefer to step into whatever routine you currently have, as to not disrupt your pets normal!
About: I have six current pet-sitting clients, three for whom I’ve pet-sat for five years! With these clients, I do overnight stays and/or drop-in care in the clients’ homes. I have ample experience with elderly pets. I can commit as much or as little time to your pets as needed. I am happy to spend all day giving them company or just stop by as needed! I will change my schedule to fit your needs. I prefer caring for pets in my clients’ homes where your pets are likely most comfortable. I leave my clients’ homes in the exact condition that I found them.
“Mallory is absolutely outstanding and I can’t say enough good things about her! She really went above and beyond taking such great care of our pets while we were away; sending pictures and updates daily, asking questions when needed, and giving them endless attention & affection. Absolutely will book her again!!”

“Anna took care of our two dogs for the first time. One of the dogs requires medication and Anna did a great job caring for him! She took excellent care of both dogs, was very attentive to their needs, and gave us frequent updates and pictures, which we appreciated. We can’t wait to have Anna take care of our fur babies again!”

About: I love all types of animals! I've had a myriad of animals throughout my life: dogs, cats, fish, and more. I also helped watch my friends' animals and farms whenever they went on vacation. I ready to help provide whatever care your animal(s) require. I work 2nd shift Monday through Thursday, with flexible hours. I'm able to walk and care for animals before work and during my dinner break, as needed. I'm able to maintain whatever routine your animal is accustomed to (walkings, feedings, medication, etc). I know that change and owners being out of town can be hard on many animals, so I try to maintain that level of consistency. I know many good parks and dog parks throughout the Columbus, and surrounding areas that I can take dogs to to enjoy exercise and play.
“Excellent!!! Brittany watched our two German Shepherd in our home, both are over 100lbs and one is becoming a bit elderly. Britany was prompt and followed all our listed care needs to the letter. While we have used Rover for years, Brittany is one of the few we have found that truly loves animals, and give real love and attention to your pets. The house remained spotless and Brittany clearly took extra steps before she left. In addition, Brittany checked in with us before leaving for to make sure our flights were on time an no extension was needed. Thanks Brittany for taking great care of our very hairy children!”

Brendan B is AMAZING - My dog is blind and he stayed at my home with him for a week! I got pictures and notes daily which eased my mind that he was being well taken care of. When I returned, my dog seemed so happy which is normally not the case. He loses his hair and gets hot spots when he has anxiety and he had none of that! I will definitely be using Brendan again. The house was spotless like he never was here - what an amazing sitter.

We were out of town for 9 days and Rachel took wonderful care of our anxious Havanese. She is always punctual when setting up appointments for meet and greets, stayed in touch if she had any updates or questions, and followed directions for Phoebe’s special diet and meds. Phoebe seemed to get lots of love and attention and I was relieved to get pictures of her while we were gone. I highly recommend her.

Abigail was over the top incredible! So kind, communicative, and reassuring. She did great adjusting to our high energy pups, sent many videos and photos, and left our home in better condition than she found it. She was a joy to have and I'd recommend her to anyone!

When we had someone cancel a week before our trip I panicked!! Thankfully Michelle was available and she did a phenomenal job. She followed our care instructions and has excellent communication. Even without meeting her before our booking I just felt at ease leaving Kona in her care. I highly recommend her and will definitely book her anytime we need a sitter.

Courteney is a fantastic pet sitter, I highly recommend her! She took great care of my new puppy and older pets, providing updates to ensure I felt comfortable leaving them in her care. Courteney even got my shy shepherd-lab mix, Bailey, to come out of hiding, typically an impossible feat for someone who just met her! We will definitely use Courteney again!

Riley was able to help us out last minute after our dog sitter cancelled. It was my first time using Rover so was a little nervous but after meeting Riley, we automatically knew our pup was in good hands. Riley was communicative and sent daily pictures so it helped us enjoy vacation knowing we didn’t have to worry about our pup. We would definitely use Riley again and recommend her to anyone!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost of House Sitting in Rome is $40 per night as of November 2026. Most bookings cost between $31 and $60 per night. On Rover, sitters set their own rates based on factors such as their experience, the length of care, the number of pets, and your pet’s specific needs. As long as your booking dates and pet profiles are accurate, the price shown before you confirm is the total, including any booking fee.
As of November 2026, there are 1,481 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Rome. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Rome walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Rome maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Rome choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.
sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
