“Elizabeth came highly recommended by another superb housesitter, and she lived up to every expectation. She sent regular check-ins, with photos of our pets showing them calm and content; and we returned to a house in fine order. Thanks, Beth!”

“Emma watched Sadie while we were away for a day. She was communicative when needed, did everything we asked of her, and even stayed a little while extra to comfort Sadie when Sadie was afraid of fireworks going off outside. Sadie was cared for and in good spirits when we returned. We would happily book Emma again!”

“Courteney was fantastic from start to finish! She was friendly and easy to communicate with when I scheduled. It was my first time using Rover and she helped me get set up. She came for a meet and greet to be introduced to our dog Pepper. During the meet and greet she was kind, respectful, and gave great attention to Pepper. It’s obvious by the way she interacted with Pepper that she works well with dogs and enjoys them. When the time came for her to watch our dog and stay at our house, I was confident she’d do a great job. I got frequent updates and photos of Pepper that helped me feel connected and confident in her care. Pepper said she had a great time with Courteney too:) We will definitely rebook!”

“Caitlyn was so wonderful with our reactive dog!!! She kept us constantly updated and clearly loved our dog while we were away. I book on rover all the time and Caitlyn was in the top tier. We will definitely use her again!”

“Did a wonderful job house sitting for my 4 dogs! Was very responsive and sent pictures/videos for us. I felt like she was very reliable and followed all instructions I had for each of my dogs.”

“Rebecca did a wonderful job with our one year old German Shepherd. She was professional, thorough and very responsive to me when I would check in. I appreciated her staying with our boy and will definitely reach out to her again!”

About: I’ve never been bitten. I grew up around strays and my family trusted me to walk them. I lead a volunteer group for The Humane Society, and I just love dogs! They help me deal with military life. I’m big into hiking, and I WILL carry a dog first aid kit XD. I go to School M-F from 8AM-2PM, and Church Sun 8AM-1PM. I need the money, but I do it mostly as a passion project! Very high drive dog friendly. I live in a one bedroom apartment across the street from a MASSIVE dog park. I’m huge into fitness and nature, and I will WALK your dog in nature if you want.
About: I work at The Wag Dog Bar in Grandview! If your pups like other ones, let’s talk about the possibility of me bringing them for a few hours! If that makes you uncomfortable, no worries! I will still enjoy doing all other services to provide for your pup :) This position put me through a lot of training about dog behavior! I recently rescued my very own bully mix from the shelter. I am very comfortable with any and all pups! I am currently working two part time jobs so my schedules often changes! If you want to ask, please reach out and I will provide you my schedule for the whole week! My pup is like my child. I treat her with gentleness, just like I would your pup. I always have treats on hand (please let me know if your pup has any allergies!) I always go by the policy that the pup’s comfort and experience comes first!!
“We’re very happy we found Susan! She was great with our dog and it’s clear she loves animals. Susan kept in touch with us throughout our vacation by sending photos and keeping us informed of how our dog was doing. It didn’t take long before we knew our pup was in great hands. We give Susan five stars and will definitely use her services again.”

“Ashlyn took great care of Henry and was very thoughtful about keeping him comfortable. She sent pics and I could tell Henry was feeling safe and secure (he has some anxiety issues). Was very communicative the whole time. Will definitely book with Ashlyn again!”

“Miriam did a fantastic job taking care of goose and Delta. She was reliable, on time, and fantastic with communication. Set my mind at ease while I was away! I would happily refer her to anyone who needs a dog or pet sitter and will definitely be using her again!”

About: Dogs have always been a big part of my life! I’ve had Oliver (frenchie) since he was a puppy, so I’m used to everything from training to daily routines. He requires allergy medication, which means I’m comfortable giving meds and paying close attention to a dog’s needs. I also frequently care for my family’s three dogs (two Frenchies and an English bulldog), so I’m great at handling multiple pups and making sure each one gets the attention they deserve. I’m currently working 3rd shift, so if you’re needing someone in the morning to let out your furry pet I can! Or if you want someone home all day with your pet, that works perfect for me as well! I can do walks during the days (after a little nap). I would say I’m pretty flexible if told ahead of time! I live in an apartment and do have a dog named Oliver. Oliver pretty much gets along with other dogs! If you’d rather your dog not be around another, I’d be more than willing to stay with your pets! My cousin would love watching my dog. I love meeting new fur babies and would love to help whenever I can with whatever you need!
“Jennifer is so sweet and my boys loved her. She took the time to read all my notes and kept us informed on how they were and what they did together. She pays attention to the little details. The dogs warmed up to her pretty quickly and I know they miss her! I hope she will be available for us again!”

“Kaci was great! My dogs loved her, and my two cats that don’t normally like each other cuddled up on her lap together. 🥺 so she definitely brings along good vibes. She sent lots of pictures of my babies and kept me updated with their care. Absolutely will ask her to watch them again.”

“My doggy is a big fraidy cat. But Rachel takes good care of him and he's as relaxed as he can be. Rachel is also a dependable and conscientious -- always willing to go above and beyond. This lasr time, as an example, she dragged 80 lb. boxes off the front stoop and into the house! She's great. I highly recommend her.”

“Abigail was incredible for my last minute request. She sent so many pictures, communicated clearly and frequently, and reassured me my girls were taken care of. I would recommend her for any pet sitting job!”

“Riley did a wonderful job caring for my pups, even if two of them were reluctant to be her friends in the beginning! I appreciated the update photos and texts each day, and by the end of my trip all three dogs had adopted Riley as a friend.”

Courteney was fantastic from start to finish! Pepper said she had a great time with Courteney too:) We will definitely rebook!

Riley was able to help us out last minute after our dog sitter cancelled. It was my first time using Rover so was a little nervous but after meeting Riley, we automatically knew our pup was in good hands. Riley was communicative and sent daily pictures so it helped us enjoy vacation knowing we didn’t have to worry about our pup. We would definitely use Riley again and recommend her to anyone!

I would highly recommend Brendan to anyone who needs a pet sitter. I had no worries about my babies well being while under his care. He kept me updated on how they were doing and even included pictures of Pedy and Gianni. Our dog Pedy is 11 and has diabetes and requires insulin shots twice a day. It was such a relief that Brendan was experienced at injections. I want to thank Brendan for agreeing to watch our babies on such short notice after the other sitter we booked cancelled. I really hope Brendan is available next year when we go away to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.

Abigail was fantastic! We know our kiddos were loved while we were gone, you can see it in their faces… plus the fun videos were enjoyed by the entire family while away. She made us feel comfortable and at ease knowing our kiddos were being cared for by someone who loves animals. Definitely will be using Abigail again! Thanks lady, from our fam, both fuzzy and not😊🐾🐶🧑🧑🧒🧒

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New Rome walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New Rome maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New Rome choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in New Rome. On Rover:
- 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
