Abhay was absolutely amazing. On first contact, his enthusiasm to meet and greet both us an our animals was encouraging. We knew from first meet that we could be confident and comfortable leaving our babies and our home in his care for two weeks. We were not wrong. Everything went as planned and our babies and our home were cared for perfectly according to our requests. We would, without question, request his services again and highly recommend to others.

Nicole and Steve did an amazing job looking after our Zona! We were away for a weekend and wanted someone who can stay at our place, since our dog is a senior with poor vision. Zona felt really comfortable with them. Nicole updated us daily with pictures. Her experience with animals made us feel at ease and we knew Zona is in good hands. We came back home to a happy dog and a clean house. Nicole and Steve are great and we will definitely use their help in the future!

Catherine was an amazing cat sitter and I would absolutely rebook with her again. She followed all of my care instructions very carefully and was extremely attentive to my cats’ needs while I was away. One thing that really stood out to me was how quickly she noticed an issue with my cat Bruce, who has chronic constipation. I had explained the warning signs to look out for before I left, and the very first night I was gone she noticed he was trying to use the litter box but couldn’t. She contacted me immediately, made herself available for a phone call, and followed all of the care steps I walked her through. Thankfully, Bruce improved a lot after that, and I was so grateful she caught it so early. She also sent constant updates and photos throughout the trip, so I was never left wondering how my babies were doing. Catherine house sat for two nights as well, and when I came home my apartment was exactly as I left it. I felt like my cats and home were genuinely cared for while I was away. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, attentive, and compassionate pet sitter.

About: I’ve had two pits since they were puppies, and have had no behavioral problems that are extreme. I would do anything in my power to make an animal feel happy and loved. I am currently a student at Southern New Hampshire University and I also have an internship, but anyway I could fit in pet care I will. I do not have a fenced yard anymore due to weather conditions, but for my dogs at home we put them on their long leashes so they can roam around the back years or run around and enjoy their time outside without being able to run away.

I was overwhelmed by how much my dogs enjoyed spending time with Brian ("Barry"). When I arrived home after a short trip, they were completely bonded to him and wouldn't leave his side. I loved the daily pictures of my two dogs. They were so well cared for and actually smiled for the photos. Barry kept in touch frequently to let me know that all was well. Shelby and Luke loved going out for walks with him. He kept my home safe and spotless, and my gang was in absolute heaven spending time by his side. I very much hope that I can have him stay again if ever needed. He is a gentle and highly responsible pet sitter!

About: I've always loved dogs and cats and felt very passionate about them. I have two years animal shelter experience taking care of dogs and cats. This included feeding several different types of foods and diets to pets, ensuring pets' safety, cleaning cages and kennels, cleaning litter boxes, and taking out dogs into the yard. I am available most days and times every week to care for your pets. I offer mostly drop ins and I do have exceptions like I will be going on vacation this month so just message me within one day to request a booking. I look forward to meeting you and your pets! I pay attention to dogs and cats body languages to ensure their safety needs and emotional needs are met. I let pets come to me first so that they can feel comfortable and safe around me. I treat every pet with respect and if they do not want to say hi yet, that is totally fine with me I will feed them and clean litterbox, etc and they will warm up to me eventually. I watch puppies and young dogs very carefully so that they do not get into trouble and I always make sure the floors are puppy/dog proofed.

I currently have extended summer availability, making me a great option for vacations, longer trips, and house sitting stays. I understand how important it is to have someone reliable caring for both your pets and your home when you can't be there. I'm an Education Support Professional in a special education classroom, where patience, consistency, communication, and attention to detail are essential every day. I bring those same qualities to pet care by following routines carefully, noticing small changes, and providing calm, dependable support. I have experience caring for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals for friends and family over many years. Growing up in a rural area also gave me experience around animals, including helping neighbors care for farm animals. When house sitting, I provide attentive care while respecting your home and keeping your pet's routine as consistent as possible. Care may include feeding, walks, playtime, companionship, litter box care, following detailed instructions, medication administration when needed, and regular photo and message updates. My goal is to provide trustworthy, compassionate care so you can enjoy your time away knowing your pets and home are in good hands. I currently have availability for house sitting and vacation care from June 27–July 10, and again beginning August 11th through early September. During these periods, I’m able to dedicate my time and attention to providing consistent care, maintaining your pet’s routine, and giving regular updates while you’re away. When I’m available, I enjoy providing dependable companionship, walks, feeding, and home care while helping pets feel comfortable in their familiar environment. I’m happy to follow detailed instructions and adjust care to meet each pet’s individual needs. When caring for pets in a client’s home, my priority is keeping pets safe, comfortable, and on their normal routine while also treating their home with respect. I understand that inviting someone into your home is a big responsibility, and I take that trust seriously. I carefully follow all instructions regarding feeding, medications, exercise, routines, and any special needs your pets may have. I pay close attention to behavior and changes in your pet’s comfort level so I can provide the best care possible. I will maintain a clean and secure environment, respect your space and belongings, and provide regular photo and message updates so you feel connected while you’re away. My goal is for you to return home knowing your pets were cared for and your home was respected. I’m comfortable caring for pets with different personalities and needs, including shy pets who need patience and a calm approach. I focus on creating a safe, predictable, and positive experience for every pet I care for.

Tiesha is easily a 5 star review!! I was so nervous to leave my kitties while we went away, in a new house, with a new sitter. Tiesha was *super* communicative the whole time and took excellent care of them. This was the first time I was away that my boy cat actually ate! She was polite, courteous, respectful, clean, and most importantly: trustworthy!!!

Rebecca and James were the best with Tolstoy! They were so kind, attentive, and thorough. I would recommend them to anyone. We were sent tons of pictures and videos with very detailed information about his day. He had the time of his life! They were very accomodating to his active lifestyle and loved on him a lot. I could tell he was well cared for and as happy as was possible with us away. They are just genuine dog people who will really understand your dog's personality and preferences.

FAQs for House Sitting - Rockland

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Rockland on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 5,979 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Rockland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Rockland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Rockland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Rockland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Rockland. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
