We are so amazed by the care that Rita provided our boys when we were away. We knew from our initial meeting that she offers her services because she loves pets so much. We will definitely only hire her for our future needs and we recommend her without reservation!

Sarah was great, she dropped in to take care of our pets while we were out of town. Our pets immediately took to her and clearly had a good time.

Julia was the best pet sitter we could have asked for! My cat is 13 years old and I was nervous leaving her for a week after spending every second with her over covid. Julia always sent a picture or video and updated me on how she was doing, which made me feel so comfortable! Watching the videos I could tell how much attention Julia put into her stay as my cat definitely grew to love her. I most definitely recommend Julia while you’re away, she is both caring and responsible for your pets.

About: Hello! My name is Hayley and I am an animal lover of all kinds. I had a chihuahua for 14.5 years until I had to say goodbye to him in august of 2024. Since then I have found joy in helping others take care of their furry family members. My Pedro was special needs so I am comfortable giving meds or helping with disabled animals as well. I promise to take care of your babies just like they are my own! Same day bookings and short notice bookings will be dependent on my full time work schedule as I work 3 twelve hour night shifts a week but please always reach out as I may be available! I am also willing to pet sitting for other animals like chickens, hedgehogs, etc. Just ask!! I am a full time night shift nurse so my schedule is crazy but allows me to spend the days with your pet. I am also able to get several days in a row off and spend 24/7 with your pet, if scheduled within enough time! If selected, I would treat your baby as if they are my own and would go above abd beyond in caring for them. I am unable to bring pets to my home but am more than happy to care for them in the comfort of their own homes.

About: I've been taking care of dogs and cats for neighbors, friends, and family for most of my life! I am reliable to walk, feed, clean up after, and play with pets. I have a medium sized old lady dog as a family pet and two guinea pigs of my own that I love dearly. I also help care for my friends two cats and white golden retriever often. When I'm home from college for breaks I love for this to be a source of income. My schedule is flexible and I'm willing to work with you to figure out what is best for you and your pets! Homes with fences preferred for dogs, but I love to take dogs for walks and run around the house. Keeping a safe and clean environment is extremely important to me.

About: My family adopted a 10 month old rescue pup, Charlie, when I was 7 years old. For the 12 years that I got to spend with him he was my best friend. Although he was stronger than me the first few years of his life, I was still involved in his training and feeding care until I was big enough to take him out and walk him. Once I could handle him, I took him out, walked him, and helped give baths. As an adult, I have done multiple pet-sitting jobs for neighbors and family friends. I have taken care of dogs and cats of all ages. My job experience includes retail, landscaping, and food/bar service. Working late nights in downtown Blacksburg, I have become keen at cleaning up messes of all kinds. This summer, my schedule is wide open! I play pool a couple of nights a week, but that doesn't last for more than a few hours and I can always go late/leave early to get back to the pets. When the school year starts, I will schedule pet sitting around my class schedule. I am equipped to handle dogs of almost any size on a leash, and I love to play fetch in a yard/at the park. I can keep food and water bowls clean and full, I can crate dogs if needed, and I can keep a litter box clean!

Sarah is such a kind and lovely presence! My cat is usually super shy and takes some time to warm up to people, but he took to Sarah almost immediately. She sent great updates and photos and I would absolutely trust her to take care of any pet. Sarah was compassionate and would highly recommend her.

About: I have cared for pets of all ages over the years and adopted a pup of my own about two years ago. He’s up to date on all vaccinations and loves other dogs. I have experience with giving medications to animals, caring for both puppies and older pups, and my apartment is hardwood floors so accidents aren’t a problem! I am a graduate assistant and in grad school. This means that I word pretty weird hours and I do a lot of work remotely. I’m home anywhere between 8 hours to 24 hours a day and can rearrange my schedule depending on the needs of the animal. There is a dog park nearby and it’s a safe area. For my pup, and pups I’ve boarded/cared for before, I traditionally feed them in the AM and give them plenty of water. We go to the dog park to start the day and get the energy out. I make sure to leave dog-safe toys on the floor so they know they have stuff to play with and I dog proof the apartment before I leave each time so they don’t get into things they shouldn’t. We go out later in the day to the dog park again to socialize or get the zoomies going. We go back and have a little more food or a snack and then hang out before going out on a walk to end the day. I'm working full-time in ministry so I have lots of time throughout the day to care for your loved one and will be gone no more than a few hours per evening for bible studies and groups. I take my dog, Tonka, out 5-6 times per day minimum and we love to go on walks and be outdoors. I have a large field directly behind my apartment and live in a very pet-friendly area tucked off the main road so your pup will enjoy lots of safe and supervised outside time! I allow animals on the furniture and keep all choking hazards up high. My dog has a knack for finding even the smallest things to mess with so I have good practice with keeping a safe home.

About: I’ve had dogs of my own for the last four years (both raised as puppies) and love taking care of them. I’m convinced if you can raise a puppy you can do anything haha. I work full time and my hours are fairly flexible - I’m more likely to be available to walk dogs after 5 pm during the week and can host dogs just about anytime! Our black lab/German shepherd mix & German shepherd love having dog friends over and we have a fenced in yard as well. We prefer having dogs that are friendly and able to play with our two dogs, but we are also able to separate them in a crate if needed. Happy to help you however I can! Feel free to message me if you have any questions! Can’t wait to meet your pup! Currently working full time in Blacksburg. Can sometime let dogs out during lunch but inconsistently. More likely to walk after 5 pm during the week and can host just about anytime. Have a fenced in yard! Happy to take out on leash for walks as well. We make sure to pick up after our dogs frequently and give them more than enough potty breaks.

About: I’ve been caring for dogs for over 8 years and truly love being around them. I’ve worked with dogs of all sizes, ages, and personalities—from energetic puppies to senior dogs who need a little extra patience and care. I’m comfortable with feeding routines, administering basic medications, walking, and providing lots of attention and playtime. I treat every dog like they’re my own and always make sure they feel safe, happy, and loved. I work primarily in EMS, so my schedule changes frequently but I have many days off a week and am flexible. My shifts are usually 12-24 hours long, so I won’t be able to do anything on the days I work. Safety and comfort are always my top priorities. With 8 years of experience caring for dogs, I make sure every pet is in a secure, clean, and stress-free environment. In a client’s home, I carefully follow all instructions, maintain their dog’s routine, and keep the space tidy and safe. I’m attentive on walks, use secure leashing practices, and stay aware of surroundings at all times. If caring for pets in my home, I ensure a calm, pet-friendly environment with plenty of supervision, safe spaces to rest, and regular potty breaks. I keep harmful items out of reach and never leave pets unattended in unsafe situations. I also provide regular updates so owners feel confident and at ease while they’re away.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of July 2026, there are 522 sitters on Rover offering Dog Sitting across Riner. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

A pet sitter can provide focused care sessions, help your pet’s routine stay on track, or keep you updated on your pet’s mood and energy levels.

Whether you’re at the office for the day or traveling for a few nights, a pet sitter can offer potty breaks during a Riner stroll, cleaning the litter box, or making sure your pet has on-time food or water refills. For daytime services like walking and drop-ins, you can also request sitters to send a report card with every visit.

Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Riner choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

While Rover doesn’t offer traditional subscription services, some sitters offer recurring bookings for services like home visits and dog walking. Recurring services come with their own perks, such as flexibility to modify services (up to five weeks in advance), automatic billing, Rover Card updates, and same-day cancellations.

To find sitters in Riner with recurring or weekly availability, select "Repeat Weekly" and which days you’d like them to care for your pet.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Riner. On Rover:

  • 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
