Mona was fantastic! She stayed in touch with me while was gone and provided me with updates, videos and photos of my kids. As a very nervous dog dad Mona made me feel very comfortable while I was gone. I would hire her back anytime and highly recommend her to anyone seeking a reliable and dependable dog/house sitter.

It's so difficult when you have a new pup in the house: the dog is still getting used to new surroundings and can easily become fearful when the new "hooman" is away for longer than usual. Matthew stepped in for me and Buddy felt immediately comfortable with him. I returned to no separation issues at all. Matthew went above and beyond while I was away. He is very calm and that rubbed off on Buddy. My Buddy just LOVES Matthew!

Such a relief finding Jessica! My husband and I recently moved to the Valley and have been looking to find reliable options when we go out of town to babysit our 2 cute young cats. We don’t have human babies so these are truly our babies! I immediately felt comfortable with Jessica and I could tell our girls were comfortable too. Our home was left tidy and I’m sure Mavis and Margaux appreciated having a loving sitter while we were gone. Looking forward to booking again ?

About: I’ve taken care of dogs for at least 10 years, mostly with having my own. I know they are a big part of our families and how much we love and care for them. I am great with playing and cuddling and walking and absolutely love it. I currently work from home and so I have plenty of time to schedule dog walks, care and dog sits according to what is needed. I have a large green belt, that is very private. It is not fenced, but I have the ability to take the dogs out as much as needed. I also live in a very nice area where I have many trails and beautiful areas to walk.

Karaleah took care of our dogs on Thursday and Friday while we were busy with wedding events, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter! She was so loving, sweet, and gentle with both of them. Her calm and kind presence made such a difference, especially during a hectic time. She was patient, attentive, and made sure our pups were happy and well cared for. We’re so grateful for her help and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who will treat your dogs like her own!

When caring for pets in my home, I provide a safe, pet-friendly environment with plenty of space to play and relax, along with a consistent routine to ensure comfort and stability. About: I’ve been caring for dogs of all sizes since I was a young girl, and animals have always been a natural part of my life. I’ve rescued dogs throughout my adulthood and loved every breed, personality, and quirky soul that’s come my way. Even cats — despite my allergies — tend to walk right up to me, which always makes me smile. I’ll still care for them with love (and a little help from allergy meds). I’m an empath with a deep, intuitive connection to animals. Nervous, shy, senior, or sensitive pets usually relax around me quickly. I read their body language, respect their boundaries, and create a calm, predictable environment where they feel safe and understood. I also bring professional caregiving skills to my pet care. As a retired massage therapist and longtime caregiver, I can offer gentle pet massage, calming touch, and support for aging, compassionate end of life care and support or anxious dogs. I’m comfortable providing wound care, administering medications, and injections for diabetic animal when needed. What truly sets me apart is the combination of lifelong love of animals, my experience, intuition, and genuine compassion. Your pet will be cared for with patience, warmth, and the same steady presence I’ve brought to every animal I’ve loved. I create a calm, predictable environment where pets feel safe, understood, and cared for in my Home or Yours. I will respect your home, your space, your privacy and the trust you placed in me.

About: I am a registered nurse who brings the same level of dedication, vigilance, and compassion to pet care as I do to my human patients. Holding advanced life-support credentials (BLS, ACLS, and PALS), I am deeply committed to safety and well-being. I absolutely adore animals and understand that our pets are family. Whether you have an energetic pup who needs a walking buddy or a selective cat who requires a gentle, patient touch, your fur babies will receive top-tier companionship and structured care under my watch. I am taking care of a sick family member the other times I am not with pets, so I am very flexible if need be. Your pet’s existing routine is my priority, and I seamlessly adapt to their specific feeding, walking, and nap schedules. You can look forward to frequent photo updates and transparent communication throughout their stay, giving you absolute peace of mind while you are away.

We have used Alex several times to watch our fur baby. He is the ultimate animal lover! We were hesitant to leave our fur baby when he was newly diagnosed with a disease needing lots of medication. But I knew Alex would take care of them just as if he was his own. More recently Alex watched our fur baby as well as our to desert tortoises. He followed all the directions to a T! Definitely don’t hesitate when hiring Alex to take care of your animals. He’s the best!!

Tony was amazing with our Sheepadoodle Califern. We ran into a pinch over the Thanksgiving holiday and needed to find coverage quickly and Tony delivered. He was flexible with Cali's needs and sent me updates with pictures during the stay. We joke that our dog is like our child and we're not kidding that we would talk about her nightly if she were ok and missing us. Having communication and pictures helped us know she was in a good space. I'd highly recommend boarding your dogs with Tony. He was awesome. --Tom

About: I've been caring for pets since 2021. One of my sisters has a tuxedo cat, and my other sister has two French Bulldogs. Whenever their schedules get busy, they know they can count on me to look after their pets and make sure they're happy, safe, and well cared for. I truly enjoy spending time with animals and making them feel comfortable while their owners are away. Whether it's feeding them, taking them on walks, playing with them, or simply giving them companionship and affection, I always do my best to make them feel loved and at ease. I understand that every pet has their own personality and routine, and I'm committed to providing the same level of care and attention I would give my own pets. I’m a college student currently unemployed, which allows me to have a flexible schedule and dedicate time to providing pets with walks, care, attention, and companionship. I create a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment. In a client’s home, I will follow their instructions closely, respect their space, and maintain their pet’s normal routine. I make sure pets receive proper attention, care, and supervision while keeping their safety and well-being my top priority.

John watched and took care of our two Boys while we got away on vacation. He is such a caring individual it gave use great peace of mind knowing that he was there taking care of them in our absence. He communicated with us every day and sent pictures of the activities that he was doing with the dogs. We feel so fortunate to have found John and made a connection with him. Jessica was amazing. From the meet and greet on, our 80# male pitbull LOVED her! Most people shy away from Reggie, for good reason, he is not nice with new people. Jessica within a few minutes had Reggie's attention and he loved her. We got updates everyday with pictures, which put our minds at ease. We came home to a very happy and healthy boy. The house was immaculate, very hard to tell someone was living there 24/7 with our pup!! I HIGHLY recommend Jessica for house sitting/pet sitting. She will be hearing from us very soon!!

FAQs for House Sitting - Rancho Mirage

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Rancho Mirage on Rover is $114.57 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 527 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Rancho Mirage. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Rancho Mirage walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Rancho Mirage maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Rancho Mirage choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Rancho Mirage. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 94% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
