Maia is so great with our boy Harvey. He is a big softie and she is so sweet with him. He got so excited when she arrived after meeting her for the first time for a meet and greet. Great communication, regular updates and photos. We had a delay with our flights and she was happy to go back and make sure he was ok. I cannot recommend Maia more. I will definitely rebook when I need someone to stay again.

Susan was my house sitter for two weeks during my international trip. My four legged son was under her care and I can confirm that he was looked after very well. I’m so glad to have found her through Rover, and eternally grateful for giving me the peace of mind during my travels (knowing my baby is in a safe well cared environment. Thank you, Susan. Highly recommended.

About: I’ve loved dogs my whole life. I now have an amazing female golden retriever who is very docile and sweet with all dogs (as long as they are not aggressive with her). She is truly awesome-Just like your guy or girl! We love having animals in our home, playing, walking and hanging out. I have been hosting dogs in my home for over a year now. I’m a mom who is home so I have a flexible schedule. Ideally I’m looking to host a dog 2-5 days a week during the day/early evening. Leave your pet with me and guarantee they will be happy, well taken care of and having lots of fun! My home is a friendly, clutter free, safe and comfortable environment. We have a fenced in yard for potty breaks in between our walks and we have a lot of fun playing and relaxing in the house

About: I’ve been caring for animals for years and love getting to know each pet’s unique personality. I’ve fostered 8 cats and 1 dog to date, helping them adjust to new environments and getting them ready for their forever home. I also have two cats of my own and two family cats, so I understand the care, attention, and patience they need. I’m also the go to pet sitter for my friends whenever they’re away. I’m also a certified sitter through Southeastern Guide Dogs, where I’ve cared for and trained puppies and service dogs in training. This has really shown me how to work with dogs of all ages, personalities, and energy levels. I know every pet is unique and I really take the time to understand their needs and personality. I want to make sure your pet is comfortable and cared for, giving you peace of mind and lots of pictures while you’re away! I recently graduated, so I currently have a very flexible schedule that allows me to dedicate my time to caring for pets. Between pet sitting and other flexible work, my routine revolves around the pets I’m caring for, not the other way around. This means I have plenty of availability for drop-in visits, walks, overnight stays, and can easily adapt to your pet’s normal routine! As of right now, I am only able to provide care in my client’s home so pets can stay where they’re most comfortable, but also to ensure that my own cats, who are nervous around other pets, remain comfortable. When caring for your pet, I treat both your home and your baby with the same respect and attention I do my own. I carefully following feeding schedule, medication instructions, walking routines, and any other care preferences you provide. I understand that every pet has different needs, and I take the time to learn their personality, comfort level, and routine so they feel safe while you’re away. Safety really is my number one priority. I’ll make sure doors, gates, windows, and any other areas are secure. I’ll be sure to keep your pet in approved areas, look out for any changes in behavior or health, and send lots and lots of pictures and videos!

About: I have taken care of neighbor's cats since I was 12, providing meals, medicine and love. I have had my own dog for 9 years who I also care for. I volunteered at SAVE animal shelter for 3 years taking care of cats. I just graduated high school so I am free this entire summer before I leave for college in the beginning of September 2026. I work at the YMCA on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7 but am free the rest of the week. I can easily take care of the pet in my clients home. I have experience doing so; cleaning litter boxes, taking care of the house, cleaning up messes, and more. I can water plants or provide any other house services while the owners are away.

About: Experience with caring for and grooming senior pets and kittens. I’m also pretty crafty about getting pets who are reluctant to do it to eat their food/take their meds. Looking for stable work at the moment, in the mean time I’m available for petsitting, housesitting. Can do NY or Philadelphia and most places in between. I’m good at interacting with pets and feeling out how much interaction they want and when to give them space. I try to get creative with playing with them if possible.

About: Greetings! I am a true lover of ALL animals. Especially Dogs and Cats💕 I owned my beloved cat Tigger for 13 wonderful years, and now I have a furry “brother” named Chance, a fun-loving Jack Russell Terrier who completely steals my heart! I love visiting him, taking him on walks, cuddling, playing, and of course enjoying all those happy oxytocin-filled moments. He literally goes crazy when I walk through the door! 🐶 What sets me apart as a pet sitter is the genuine love, attention, and care I give to every animal. I don’t just “watch” pets — I spend quality time with them, play with them, keep them company, and make sure they feel safe, happy, and loved while you’re away. I will: Feed and care for your pet responsibly Take dogs on walks and give them exercise Play, cuddle, and provide companionship Keep litter boxes, feeding areas, and pet spaces clean Treat your pet like family I also have a lot of experience caring for children, so being nurturing, patient, dependable, and attentive comes naturally to me. If you’re looking for someone who is honest, fun, compassionate, and truly enjoys animals, your pets will LOVE having me as their sitter! 🐾✨ Right now, My brother Chance and my besties Dog Nikki who I case around ( or she chase me around every chance I get! I don't have a daily pet routine N/A I donot care for pets in my home. Should someone desperately need cat care I will try to accommodate. ( I'm more than happy to help)

Most important, she was patient and determined to get my dog to eat and take her meds (she is older and has health issues) and kept me informed. I could not ask for better care! My dog is happy and healthy!

Kyra helped us out with a week-long housesit and things went great! We came home to a happy fluffy dog, and we were delighted by the photo updates throughout. Kyra was also quite thoughtful during her stay, checking in to see how Denver felt about thunder when a big storm was coming their way.

FAQs for House Sitting - Princeton

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Princeton on Rover is $56.61 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 2,862 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Princeton. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Princeton walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Princeton maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Princeton choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Princeton. On Rover:

  • 90% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
