I was really disappointed with my experience. I paid $93 for a consultation that could have easily been done over the phone. During the session, the trainer didn’t even interact with my dog and basically just asked me questions from a pre-filled questionnaire. At the end, I was given two training plans that felt generic and AI-generated, rather than personalized to my dog. Overall, I felt like I didn’t get the value I expected and would not recommend this service.

Leah F is our go to person for anything dog. In all seriousness, she is more than helpful with any unwanted behaviors in an out of the house. She cares so much about any dog she's with that she notices if something seems off. What I mean is she is a kind and gentle dog trainer with the knowledge and experience to know if a dog may need medical attention.

Elsie worked with my rescue pitbull and I cannot speak highly enough of her! She was so patient, kind, and helped not only my dog but ME! I used to dread our walks bc of the pulling and jumping toward any person or dog we saw. Now she looks at me and walks by my side. I didn't believe it was possible and all this came from just TWO lessons. I recommended her to my friend who has a nervous little dog who didn't want to go outside (so, total opposite of mine 😂), and Elsie worked her magic here too. We both will be recommending her to anyone who needs a knowledgeable, professional dog trainer!!!

Laura has made a great impact on my very fearful rescue, Sage. She takes a science-based approach, mixed with care. Each session is like a masterclass in dog behavior, so I have also learned a ton from Laura while we worked with Sage. She has a special understanding and patience for reactive and traumatized dogs. All dogs are different. She finds what works for your dog.

Elisa came to our home to do six sessions of dog training with our standard poodle, Duke. She was organized, prompt, resourceful, wonderful with our dog, and very helpful to us. In addition to the sessions, she offered videos and links to help reinforce what she has taught us. It's all positive behavior modification. Very effective and kind to the dog. Duke loved having her come work with us!

About: My focus is on giving pet owners the ability to train their dogs from the comfort of their own home. Although there are benefits to both in-person and at-home training, for certain dogs the training process goes a lot smoother when there aren't as many outside factors in the picture, as well as owners having the ability to get dog training without the stress of having to work around schedules and times to leave the house. I want to bring the same beneficial training to you right from your home!

Dog Training FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in Philadelphia.

Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

If you’re searching for a dog trainer in Philadelphia for the first time, visit the trainer’s profile and select the Contact button.

If you have an active request or have booked a service with a trainer before, learn more about how to do this in the Rover app or on your computer.

Rover makes it easy to find Philadelphia dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:

  • Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
  • Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer’s profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact them to ensure they’re the right trainer for you and your pet.

We get it—sometimes plans change and you may need to cancel your dog training service. You can cancel an upcoming booking directly from the Rover app or your computer, in accordance with your trainer’s cancellation policy.

Note: If your dog trainer requested to cancel this booking, then they need to cancel from their account. Please contact them via Rover Messages.
