My grandparents also owned and lived on a horse farm (I spent way more time there than my own home my entire childhood and I moved in to the farm when I was 15 until I moved in to my own place) As soon as I had my first apartment, the first thing my now-husband and I did was go get a pet(or three)! When the warmer weather approaches, we are outside the majority of the days so your pup will get plenty of exercise and play time! Puppies will have room to explore and play in a safe environment! Fences are regularly checked to make sure theres no digging holes around (We know some dogs like to dig!!) and pets will always be supervised.
