“Elena was truly amazing in every sense of the word. Our babies loved her and she loved them. She made us feel comfortable while we were away from them for the first time in a long time and sent us so many updates and pictures! It was our puppy’s first vacation and Elena took the utmost care of her (and all of our fur babies). I’d so highly recommend her to foranyone at any time. We cannot wait to have her come stay again.”

“We always rebook with Jeremiah! My dog Luka loves having a familiar face stay with him. Jeremiah is always great with communication, updates, pictures and videos. Every time I come home the house is always clean and well cared for.”

“Kylee D did a great job house and kitty sitting while we were out of town for a week. She was responsive and gave us lots of updates while we were gone. We would not hesitate to recommend her.”

“Loved having Kaitlin in our home, we got multiple daily updates and our pups were very happy. We came home to a clean house and happy dogs Thank you so much Kaitlin!”

“We were very pleased with Kristina and the care she provided for our two dogs. She was very communicative during her stay sending lots of photos and updates. Our house was left clean and ready for our arrival. We will surely be a returning client!”

About: I've been taking care of pets for neighbors and family friends for the past 4 years, and loved every second of it! I've been able to cuddle with puppies while watching a movie, wrestle with some teens pups and begrudgingly let them win, and I've taken calm walks around the backyard with a senior dog. I'm currently in school, so my day doesn't begin until 4 on weekdays, perfect for house sitting and sunset walks! On weekends, my schedule is completly free! I do have some Sunday morning commitments, as I work childcare for my church, but it has a flexible schedule for whatever you or your furry friend might need! I love to match the energy of pet and owner, so I can always provide the best experience. I'm able to lounge with some calm cats or play in the yard with some energetic puppies. I can take walks around your neighborhood, or go for drives if that's your pets vibe. In the end, if the pet is happy then so am I 😊

“Robert was wonderful! He was on time, very kind and took special care with our elderly and blind dachshund. She needs extra attention on walks and outside around our pool, he was very patient and understanding with this. He provided photos and detailed updates on how she was doing. Our house was spotless and our dog was calm and content when we arrived back home. We will be booking Rob for future dates.”

“I had to go out of town at the last minute. A friend suggested Rover. Ander was available for a last minute stay. We met to see how Ander and Willy would be. I was very surprised at how comfortable Willy was. I am grateful for the care and attention he gave to Willy. I will happily be a repeat customer. I also appreciate that he only has one “family” of pets at a time. Thank you Ander for going out of your way to help us.”

“Jeanne was awesome! She stayed at our house with our two Australian Shepherds while we were away for a week. They took to her immediately! She sent pics and videos while we were gone and I could tell the dogs were thrilled to have her there. They were so happy and well taken care of. She was friendly and extremely considerate, the house looked as clean if not cleaner than we left it! I would use Jeanne again in a heartbeat and highly recommend her for dog sitting and home sitting.”

“Jamie was an awesome petsitter for my little guy over the past week. She was attentive and helped him through his initial separation anxiety. She went above and beyond, and I couldn’t be happier! I will definitely reach out for future petsitting needs.”

“I could not be happier with Tyler! I used her for our last trip. So happy to have found her. She gave updates all along the way, with photos, which help when your away missing your pets. My dogs (and cat) loved her, and more importantly I was able to leave them with ease. Hands down recommend her. Will be using her again. Thank you Tyler! My crew missies you already.”

“I can’t say enough good things about Sarah!! She was so professional and caring for our babies while we were on vacation! One of our pups very anxious and can be aggressive towards new people. She was so patient and skilled in letting him come to her in his own time. She provided us so many updates, pictures, and videos to keep our minds at ease!! She asked for instructions and followed everything to perfection!! I would use her for dog care over and over again!!! So glad we found her!!”

About: I have dog/cat sat for family, friends, family friends and many others. Both in house/overnight, as well as taking dogs on walks and having playtime. I'm used to both younger and older animals and set my pace to match their own. I have dealt with many forms of administering medicine to animals. My goal, as in my headline, is to cater to you and your pet. Not all animals are the same! Some animals require lots of attention and comfort and others need a far slower pace. Whatever works best for your animal is what I will do. I am great at approaching animals slowly and calmly so that they can adjust to my presence. Above all, I wish to bring the least stress to your pet with my presence if they are not a social animal. Overall my overnight stays/days spent taking care of other animals (not my own) amounts to about 1 year of continuous experience. I have come to learn how to handle both dogs and cat extremely well but am more than capable and willing to learn/care for any other type of pet! I volunteer part-time so I have plenty of time on my hands to watch your pets! I can stay fully inside your house for overnight visits and not leave much or check in on them periodically, whichever works best for you. If I am to be absent from your house for any reason (likely volunteering) I will have discussed it with you prior to the sitting and will only be gone for a maximum of 5 hours (accounting for travel time). I will avoid having any volunteer hours on any days that I am pet sitting as often as I can help it! I cater to you and your pets before my own personal desires. As often as your pet wants to play I will play! I can go on multiple walks a day with them. If you prefer that they be away from other animals on walks I will find a more secluded area. All animals are different and require different needs. I largely base my activities during pet sitting or playtime/walks off of what the client needs for their pets rather than prior experience that I have. When I first introduce myself to your pet it will be slow and gradual (offering my hand to sniff, not making eye contact, allowing them to adjust to my presence and come to me first) unless of course they're open upon me entering!
“Amee was so great with all my fur babies. She sent me daily updates with pictures. And she took such good care of my home while she stay here. I will definitely recommend her and will be booking her again! Thanks so much Amee!!!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Nelson
Amy-Andrea took fantastic care of our three dogs while we were away. In fact, I'm not even sure how much the dogs realized we weren't there ... they were so well taken care of. We also came home to a perfectly clean house, which was truly appreciated (and not expected!) after our travel. Amy-Andrea kept us updated with daily pictures and information about the dogs. And she was very clear about her own work schedule to make sure it fit with our needs. I will absolutely use Amy-Andrea again for any dogsitting needs.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience! She did an amazing job watching our dogs and went above and beyond by also taking care of the house and watering all of our plants. She was incredibly responsible, reliable, and gave us such peace of mind while we were away. Our dogs were happy and well cared for, and everything at home looked perfect when we returned. We will absolutely be using her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy sitter!

FAQs for House Sitting - Nelson
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of June 2026, there are 832 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Nelson. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Nelson walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Nelson maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Nelson choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Nelson. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
