I had a great experience with Amanda! She was kind, attentive, and very understanding of my dog’s quirks. It’s always nerve-wracking to leave your pet with someone new, but she made the whole process easy and stress-free. My dog can be a little unpredictable, especially in new situations, and she handled everything with such calm and care. I really appreciated her communication and the updates she sent while I was away. I would absolutely recommend her!

Laura is a friendly, dependable, dog loving sitter. She stayed at our house while we were away and cared for our three dogs who all eat differently and take medication. We could tell when she met them that she would love them like we do. And when we returned they were happy and not traumatized. We highly recommend Laura.

Here’s a polished review you can post: This was our second time using Amber, and I felt just as comfortable as the first time having her not only in our home but also caring for our little spoiled herd. She is trustworthy, reliable, and genuinely cares about our dogs. She always keeps us updated with photos, which gives us so much peace of mind while we’re away. It’s clear our pups are happy and well cared for, and knowing they’re in such good hands makes traveling so much easier. We wouldn’t hesitate to book Amber again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and dependable pet sitter!

Ty did a fantastic job taking care of our anxious pups! He provided photos/video updates daily and we could see how happy our dogs were. Not only did he provide loving care with walks, playtime, and cuddles; but he also did personal training sessions with our dogs as well to help improve their behavior. He is professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and experienced. We will definitely book with Ty again!

Claudia is absolutely fantastic! She stayed with my two dogs while we were out of town for 4 days. Each morning and evening she sent an update on how everything was going. She sent photos and in the evening a cute video recap! One of our dogs is a senior who is not eating every meal any more, and Claudia was great at monitoring how much he ate and even took his food bowl upstairs to him to encourage him to eat when he needed to. Our house looked great when we came home as well. Claudia is an amazing pet and house sitter and I absolutely recommend her! Thank you Claudia!

About: My husband Justin and I have been married since 2018 and we have 3 fur babies. We welcomed our first child in March 2021. We love training, caring for, and loving on animals. Justin is a 5th grade teacher and Lauren works from home full time with an educational technology company. We would love to care for your fur baby like our own. Because Lauren works from home you pup can come in and out of the house all day and enjoy some indoor and outdoor playtime! We have 2 rescue dogs and one rescue cat who we love! Our cat has a home in the office with a baby gate up. No need to worry if your dog is not comfortable with cats, she can stay in the office with her cat tree and all the things she needs. she doesn't venture out from there much anyways. We would be happy to bring your fur babies into our house or stop in for playtime or a walk! Just let me know what your needs are and we will accommodate in anyway! I also have experience house training, and walk training puppies. We just request your fur baby is not aggressive as we have other animals and a small child in the house! I look forward to meeting you, and caring for your fur baby. I currently work from home, so I am able to let the dogs out as often as needed for potty breaks or playtime. This also means they get love all throughout the day! My husband is a school teacher so he is at work during the week. We enjoy taking family walks in the evening after a days work. When your fur baby is in our house we treat them as our own. We have a animal friendly home, allow pets on furniture, and have lots of toys to play with. We have water bowls and dog beds throughout the house. The dogs also love going in the backyard to play with us and run around. We just ask you bring the dogs food and feeding instructions. You are welcome to bring beds or anything your fur baby needs to feel comfortable, but not required. We have lots of beds, bowls, toys, etc. We do have a child born in 2021. She is very good with animals, respects their space, and knows how to approach new animals. She loves playing with them and loving on them while they are in our house. Please if you are unsure or aware your dog is not good with children, please identify an alternate sitter. Although our daughter is very good with dogs/animals, we want to ensure a good experience for both our family and your fur baby.

About: Growing up on a ranch, I was responsible for the daily care of dogs, cats, horses, goats, and cattle, which helped me develop strong animal-handling skills, patience, and an understanding of animal behavior. Animals have always been part of my everyday life. I focus on providing quality care and attention to your furry friends. Pet care is a natural part of my routine alongside my equine farrier apprenticeship. Although my schedule may change from week to week, I carefully manage my availability and only take on bookings where I can give each pet my full attention and priority. I am committed to following each client’s instructions and routine, and to being respectful, careful, and safe while caring for your pet in your home.

I’d love to watch your pet, as it doesn’t just benefit me, it also benefits Koa and Rudder with a friend! I know how important and comforting it is to know your pet is in a safe and loving place, and I’m here to provide just that! I am more than happy to provide any accommodations to you and your dog, as I know every pup is special. I can’t wait to hang out with your pups and learn their fun quirks! My husband is able to come and go throughout the day as he can work from anywhere. We are super flexible! Our 2 pups are spoiled themselves (as they should be)! I have dog sat many times before, just not on River. We love all dogs like our own. We know how important it is to trust who has your babies. we always have 2 bowls of water filled, with lots of areas for dogs to relax.

Darian is awesome! Immediately when we met her during the meet&greet, we knew she is the right person. She is very responsible, organized and knowledgeable. She gave us peace of mind during our trip, and it was the first time we left our fur babies with someone not from our family. Darian is very responsive and committed, and pays great attention to the special needs of the pups.

FAQs for House Sitting - Midlothian

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Midlothian on Rover is $22.2 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 3,045 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Midlothian. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Midlothian walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Midlothian maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Midlothian choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Midlothian. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
